She's a beautiful woman but i can't understand why she just doesn't drop the titles and be herself. And it's odd how she talks about how much 'H' loves her but not how much she loves him.

Meghan, the Duchess of Sussex, Meets Her Moment

After years of being subsumed by other people’s narratives, she's ready to author her own next chapter

Do we really believe her children call her “Mom”?

"Mama" probably.

She likely thinks that's what aristocrats like herself go by.

I cannot imagine that THE Gloria Steinem would care.

Wonder what Germaine Greer would make of Megs.

She's wasn't at NW as such. She was at the NW School of Communication I believe. Just a bit different.

It's still part of North Western - just not the hardest faculty to get into

Overall NW has an acceptance rate of between 7 and 8%
The School of Communication has an acceptance rate of 29%

Wonder no more.

Wonder what Germaine Greer would make of Megs.

She was quite vocal about her at the time of the wedding and after they left the UK. It wasn't flattering.

FenellaFeldman · 21/11/2025 19:29

"they dressed her in brown"
Does Germaine think that a 37 year old woman can't choose her own clothes?
Weird.

I'm having a difficult time at the moment and am so grateful to Meghan for the light-hearted entertainment she provides. I couldn't help but giggle at:

[Of herself as a child] “I was such a little nerd,” she says. “My entire identity was wrapped up in being the smart one."

Rolling out two friends to tell us that we're all wrong, Meghan is a lovely person. Not only that, her friends learn from her and implement her advice. She's tried this exact over-the-top tactic before and it doesn't work.

The little digs at her mum (like how she parents differently and her mum wasn't a 'regular cook'. Knowing that you have a reputation for not getting on with family, how hard would it be to avoid this?!

[Feeling philosophical about the word 'play']: “I love being able to do both," Meghan says, “to play in the sandbox with my kids and to play in the front row at a show."

[On her dislike of things that have been 'overly realized']: "And sometimes I think the stress that people put on moments … they are so consumed in them that you lose the fun of why you are doing something.” [Is anyone reminded of her having a camera set up to watch her cheering a baseball team at home?]

As well as the 'bold love' and the '11-year-old girls are so relatable because I was once 11' and the 'authenticity' and the 'self-actualization through work' and the 'voice' and the 'narrative'. Just all so predictably funny.

OTOH, I raised my eyebrows at this:
“There’s not a day that goes by that she hasn’t checked in or I haven’t checked in,” Zajfen says. --- Just before that, it says they had fallen out of contact but Meghan got in touch when her (Zajfen's) son sadly died. That was a genuinely nice thing to do but I can't help feeling daily contact ever since is a bit...much. It reminded me of the regular contact she had with a sick employee. She presents it as a kindness (on her part) but the person on the receiving end...

In fairness to her: she is not quoted as talking directly about the washing-up liquid story. The journalist briefly referenced it but we don't know that Meghan said anything about it during this interview.

I like her look in many of the pictures even if I've seen better photos of her.

Lunde · 21/11/2025 19:33

Getting the butler to announce your arrival in a room is just hilarious and so pretentious. It's like something she saw on a Hallmark Christmas movie and decided was "royal"!

... or from "Coming to America" with Eddie Murphy where the servants rush to throw petals under the royal family's feet ....... - hey!! another use for flower sprinkles! 😂😂😂

StartupRepair · 21/11/2025 19:34

I like to picture Anne's reaction to Meghan's statements. The two Christmases Meghan had with the royal family must have provided some memorable moments.

BemusedAmerican · 21/11/2025 19:35

The only people that I hear announced in my life are the exterminator, the plumber, and the NYPD. The comments in the NY Post article are hilarious.

If William strips the titles and Meghan sues:

  • does she have to file in the UK?
  • will she have to testify in person?
  • if she loses, will she have to pay Will's court fees?
-If she loses, can we call Harry " the Brit formerly know as Prince"?

That’s just an academic branch of Northwestern specializing in arts and communication. It’s definitely being at NW.

It’s not like saying you are studying at Oxford but really meaning Oxford Brookes.

Yes it was a media degree with international politics ...

How can she sue? Titles are a gift from the monarch. IIRC she is not even a British citizen and is a citizen/resident in a country that does not recognise inherited titles.

What is the history of competent legal advice with these two? Look at the whole mess with that journalist Burrows.

I tried to find Germaine Greer's 2020 full post "Megxit" comments on 60 minutes, but I can't. She was rather brutal. Here's the snippet I can find.

Yes it was a media degree with international politics ...

IIRC her degree was "International Studies" and not the more academically challenging "International Relations" although she might have done one or more politics modules.

It is an inter-disciplinary degree where you choose your own major and minor from a huge range of courses - MM did her degree in "Theatre and International Studies" but within IS there are a lot of options - one of the humanities course options is "Hitchhiking the Atlantic"

Emm Glo to Megs

Has she ever called anyone by their actual name or title?
The Queen, your grandmother
Prince Charles, your dad
Prince William, your brother
Catherine, Kate
Harry reduced to H
Gloria Steinman, Glo

Anymore for anymore?

I wondered the same, Lunde, so glad it's not just me!!

It's all a bit previous anyway since William's not yet King and we can't know what he'll do when he is, but tantrums over anything H&M dislike would be nothing new and William may not even care

I don't think so. Even though she was given the patronage of the National Theatre by the Queen.

I think the late Queen misunderstood what kind of actress she was.
