News banner from the Torygraph saying Andrew and Sarah are losing their titles. They will be ‘put into Abeyance’ Andrew also to lose the Order of the Garter. Sarah will be known as Sarah Ferguson, he retains ‘Prince’ as he is the son of HM QE2.

Edward and Sophie do quite a lot, they just rarely get press coverage. I follow the Royal Instagram account and they are often on engagements.

I'm afraid it is William & Kate who are the lazy ones, they have always done the bare minimum. I know Kate has been ill but it isn't as if she was a hard worker previously, if so she might be given more leeway now. Edward/Sophie are quite active as is of course Anne. All within the RF concept of 'work' of course.

Well his statement says he wont use them...so technically he hasnt lost them. Give it another dexade and he will stsrt using them again when its all died down

I don't think he will, largely because I think William is tougher than his father.

"Ascends".

LOL.

But he has been divinely chosen by God... 🙃

The City of York will be delighted to lose its association with a greedy, graceless, narcissistic, lying, dodgy dimwit!

It's always annoyed me intensely that the grifter Sarah Ferguson has brazenly used 'Duchess of York' for commercial & PR purposes decades after her divorce. So I'm pleased at this news too!

I sense William's force behind this as I fear Charles isn't strong enough to deal with his brother effectively. He's like his mother the late QE2 in that sense: she preferred to stick her head in the sand rather than have a confrontation with Andrew.

I don't think we'll see Andrew or his odious ex-wife at any royal events ever again, whether ceremonial or just family occasions. The York sons-in-law will definitely not want any photo opps with disgraced Ma & Pa to taint their businesses so those are off the cards too.

Personally, I'd like to see all trace of Sarah and Andrew disappear from public view so I'd be saying she had to give up all her social media accounts (the modern equivalent to 'get thee to a nunnery' I suppose!).

They all do more than the press cover. Whether we believe they do enough is individual opinion. I do find it interesting to see what Sophie does in particular and I wish the causes she champions got more press.

I thought she already was - because they're already divorced?

Ex-wives keep the title, without the definite article in case the Duke remarries.

binkie163 · 17/10/2025 20:57

Good, it couldn't happen to a more deserving, self entitled prick. Is he still allowed to host his shooting parties at Sandringham for income? I hope this is the start of things to come.
He will not be able to afford his house on his army pension so I hope Lownie keeps digging.

By then William will be King. Not a chance.

Not only will Andrew not have a title to use….but he’ll be joined by others losing theirs.

To the person who said there aren't many working royals left - am I right in thinking the Gloucesters do a bit? They're about 80 so might reasonably want to wrap that up sometime but I think they do appearances sometimes "on behalf of" the family.

The Gloucesters and the Duke of Kent are still working.

I suppose he could flog a bauble or two?

The abeyance part must mean something, but as he has daughters and then male GC I'm not sure how the title would pass down the line.

Who'd want to be Duke of York now? The abeyance may outlive Andrew.

Flomingho · 17/10/2025 21:00

Not before time. The arrogance of this man is unbelievable. He should have done the decent thing years ago and stayed away from public life. His ex-wife is no better either.

soupyspoon · 17/10/2025 20:02

Edward V and Edward VI were not adulterers
Mary
Elizabeth I and II probably
Lady Jane Grey

Thats about it I reckon

George V?
George VI?

I know that we are meant to believe that they are tirelessly toiling away behind the scenes for the benefit of the nation. The rest of us in work are judged by our results.

willstarttomorrow · 17/10/2025 21:01

I am not a royalist but I have, as I have got older, understood and started to respect the 'soft power' and role the monarchy can play- particularly in the shitstorm this world/politics has become in the last decade. Contrary to what many previous posters think, I view this as huge. The loss of title is a a very public slap in the face and clear message about how Andrew is thought of within the royal household. This would not have happened a decade ago.

Andrew has always considered himself to he far more important than he is. He has lived off his birthright and status all his life, apparently he was not well liked in the Navy, and recent history has shown how he used his power and privilege to do harm in many ways. The title and perceived status that does with it is everything to this man. He will be absolutely fuming and would do anything he could to fight loosing it. I am sure there is more to come.

jumpingthehighjump · 17/10/2025 21:02

Let's hope. How they have just limped on with him leading a royal party into a memorial service just last year I do not know.

I do find it interesting to see what Sophie does in particular and I wish the causes she champions got more press.

I am as far from a royalist as anyone could imagine but I so agree. Those like Sophie beavering away in the background literally get no press at all. The media have a lot to answer for.

About bloody time!
Lownie’s book clearly shows who a repugnant pair they are, and their daughters aren’t far behind.

What have Beatrice and Eugenie done?

"I have decided, as I always have, to put my duty to my family and country first"

Where's that laugh emoji when you need it?

I'd love to have been a fly on the wall for THAT "discussion", but do wonder what he'll do now, if there's nothing left to lose

I bet he and Fergie are holed up in that lodge mansion thing they live in, drinking and screaming abuse at each other. They more than likely know all sorts of awful things about each other, i doubt that half the stuff they got up to made the pages of "Entitled" . Would not put it past Fergie to do a real tell all book on the royals, after all, she literally has nothing left to lose and is always short of cash

Rumpledandcrumpled · 17/10/2025 20:44

It’s a bad situation, Harry and Megan out, Andrew and Sarah out. Beatrice and Eugenie non working . Edward does sod all. Sophie does a bit, Anne does a lot, none of their kids working royals either, it’s a small group of working royals, until the Wales’s kids grow up, marry and have kids,

All we need is for the Head of State to perform the functions required of the Head of State.

Other countries manage to get hospitals and libraries opened, natural disasters dealt with and major sporting events staged without having the neices and nephews and cousins and aunties/uncles of the current Head of State buzzing around bothering the general population.

MasterBeth · 17/10/2025 21:04

MrsLeonFarrell · 17/10/2025 20:19

For Andrew things have changed drastically. He can't use his royal Dukedom, which ranks above Prince as a title. He can't dress in his Garter robes at events, like the Coronation. These things matter to him. Until fairly recently his friends were still briefing that he was wanting to return to public duties, that is now impossible. He is, as John Simpson is saying on the BBC "much much reduced in status, he has no royal status whatsoever", he had been" pushed away from the core of the royal family". It sounds symbolic but, in a country that runs on symbols and precedent, it matters and it removes him from any remaining status.

I find this kind of post unfathomable.

The man was a dirty sleazeball yesterday and is a dirty sleazeball today.

"It removes him from any remaining status."

Anyone who believed this creep had any status yesterday isn't thinking for themselves and is beholden to the medieval royalist bullshit.

MrsLeonFarrell · 17/10/2025 21:05

If Andrew had retired into a private life when the late Queen first removed him from royal duties. If he had refrained from pushing himself forward at every opportunity. I wonder if he would be in this position today.

Andrew doesn't drink alcohol but apparently he doesn't need it in order to be verbally abusive (but that might just be to staff...).

Fergie won't do a 'tell all' book because she'd lose her daughters if she did and they're all she's got.

Nowt.

They are no better. That sounds mean. They keep their heads down. Good. They have married well. Good
But their trips to Qatar, UAE, Saudi, Abu Dhabi is dodgy

OswaldCobblepot · 17/10/2025 18:50

Oh she won't like being plain old Sarah Ferguson 😁

I know lots of people on MN love to hate on Prince Andrew but isn't that convenient for the whole RF? No matter what any other royal does, none of them is anywhere near as bad ...
King Charles has never liked him so this works perfectly for him. The press has completely convicted Andrew (and tbf, he's dug his own grave) and that means that Charles can largely do as he likes (bar that trickly lease for Royal Lodge ...).

Back in the day, newspapers reported on Sarah's 'scandalous' behaviour as a contrast to Diana ...

Looking at the Garter list on wiki, Andrew is not on it. So he is not blocking a place. And Charles can appoint anyone he wants whenever he wants: it is in the monarch's gift.

(and for the Princess Royal, 'on the blower' is exactly how she'll be communicating; like her father before her)

The most important bit of any title is actually the HRH, as we all learned, when it was Diana's turn and more recently Catherine's. That is what puts a body to the front of the queue and means that others will curtsey.

I think, technically, Sarah would be Mrs Ferguson Mountbatten. I read somewhere in some etiquette book ages ago that divorcées use their unmarried surname and their (former) married surname.

And there's not much point sending a message that his (past) behavour is unacceptable. It's in the PAST and now he's pretty much confined to barracks so can't manage much more than discomfiting Prince William at funerals.

MrsLeonFarrell · 17/10/2025 20:26

I disagree. They left as working royals but they haven't behaved like Andrew.

They lied about so many things and Meghan made fun of Queen Elizabeth ll
