I think he's going cap in hand to ask for money. I really hope he's not got the nerve to ask to come back!

The real story here is that H's legal team are being accused of trying to circumvent the statute of limitations rule that you have six years from hearing about an offense to bringing it to court. They had publications print stories about stuff that had happened historically, then presented those stories to the victims, so that the victims could then claim that this was the first time they'd heard of them.*

That is definitely a choice by the legal teams involved. Abuse of process springs to mind.

And dragging his brother and sister in law into this is an interesting tactic. Harry may be able to prove that the reporters invaded the privacy of other people that he knows. That won’t prove that they invaded his privacy however (he has to prove on the civil standard of proof that each separate allegation he has pleaded is established), and he can’t claim in respect of someone else’s wrong. It’s hard to see what his team thinks they’ll gain from this, as I would have thought a judge is fairly unlikely to say “well, if they did this here, they must have done it to you too” - that’s not proving your case.

There were two long-winded threads about Byline Times on these boards maybe 1-2 years ago. They were going after Dan Wooten (who is odious, but nobody deserves to be falsely accused). The police investigation against him, off the back of Byline's investigation, came to nothing, and the Guardian ended up having to apologise and pay him compensation for repeating the accusations. I just had a look at Crowd Justice and Byline appear to have raised £45k to fight their various battles, including, they state, dealing with "voluminous correspondence" regarding their stories over the roles of palace officials. Wooten himself linked the Byline investigation with the Sussex Squad/Sarah Data, IIRC.

Royal watchers on X have pointed out all of the senior Royals have worn grey suits at engagements this week including the Duchess of Gloucester. If it is deliberate, it is rather funny, hats off to them.

wordler · 02/10/2025 20:15

There's definitely something 'off' about the leadership/ownership/funding of Byline Times.

Needspaceforlego · 02/10/2025 20:27

The RF are absolute masters at making a statement without saying a word, we are the gray suits.

It did cross my mind when I saw Kates gray suit,

CathyorClaire · 02/10/2025 20:46

Haven't followed the ins and outs of this but it looks like a convoluted saga.

I suppose though it goes some way to explaining the enduring mystery of how Harold fills his time 🕰

Mylovelygreendress · 02/10/2025 21:08

According to The Telegraph, Harry had no idea his lawyers were going to drag in W and C !

What a master stroke! probably a bit sophisticated for the dimwit Prince Harry though!

Pinocchio has more credibility.

NormaMajors1992coat · 02/10/2025 21:35

Reminds me of when he gave an interview after the Ravec case and blamed his lawyers for not telling him he might lose. Unless I dreamt that.

It’s always the same - he has a stupid idea - it gets criticised - he denies it or blames someone else. Absolutely nothing is ever his fault, he never does anything wrong, all criticism is completely unjustified and part of a huge plot against him. So he never aired any dirty laundry, he didn’t know W+C were getting dragged into this legal action, he didn’t know he might lose the Ravec case, there was no accusation of racism (all the fault of the media), W+C encouraged him to dress as a Nazi, he didn’t know those words were racist etc etc etc

elessar · 02/10/2025 23:48

It’s a more trivial point really and perhaps just legalese but the way W&C are referred to in the documents as Harry’s “associates” is pretty audacious. As if the importance of the future king and Queen of this country is only in relation to their association with Harry.

They blamed the editors of the Netflix documentary for the way that turned out, despite being executive producers with the final say.

Interesting PW’s most open interview on the news this evening talking about the changes he plans to make when king - a bit premature? His Dad has barely been in place a minute - unless there are tee-ing things up for KC3,to retire due to ill health? Did KC3 blather on about what he would do when his mother was on the throne?

BemusedAmerican · 03/10/2025 01:24

H and M are coming to NYC next week for that farce of a mental health award. If Mamdavu wins the election, I hope he cuts security for those two.

KP and RP should let those NDA' s drop. Let loose the grey suit underlings.

No, he just wrote lots of memos to elected officials.

Or it could be they are in grey, as a colour of mourning for the Duchess of Kent. But could be either.

He used to talk about being Defender of all Faiths rather than just C of E .
And he talked about slimming down the Monarchy .

Very good point. And lilac is also the colour of “half mourning” so if we see this colour in the next few weeks then the grey won’t be a troll move.

I don’t think it would be deliberate. It seems a bit childish to me and I expect more of the Royal Family than that, especially from King Charles. So I’m inclined to think that it was a coincidence, if it did indeed happen that they all wore grey.

MrsLeonFarrell · 03/10/2025 08:31

Harry's court cases are pretty good evidence why Sherborne isn't a KC. I don't believe in a million years Harry didn't know they would mention William and Catherine. It must rankle with him that the best evidence for hacking isn't actually about him at all.

Ah yes that does make sense.

QueenOfHertz · 03/10/2025 08:42

I’m pretty sure that Queen Victoria forbade her children from wearing any other colours apart from grey and lilac for years after Prince Albert died. And when I say years, I think she herself meant decades.

As if the importance of the future king and Queen of this country is only in relation to their association with Harry.

They frame everything in relation to themselves though, don't they?
When Charles was POW he used to refer to "the Queen" not "my mum", for example.
But H&M refer to everyone in terms of family relationships or how they're connected to them: "My husband's grandmother" for example.
Or people get their importance from being connected to them in some way: "You danced with my mum"; "Jane Goodall held my baby".
To call W&C "associates" is massively reductive of their status.

This article is from the USA but it lists the stages of mourning in the Victorian era along with the strict dress codes of the time
