I think he's going cap in hand to ask for money. I really hope he's not got the nerve to ask to come back!

If Meredith's still in post at the end of the year I'll be most surprised, Letmeoutofhere. She's not delivered what was wanted, so working on the basis that everything's someone else's fault she could easily be deemed to be part of the RF's "conspiracy", American or not

Well I guess the good news is, that the palace reconfirming half in half out wasn’t on the table has put an immediate stop to the mad spinning and leaking Harry and Megan were doing

Edited to add you're not wrong, @Brightlittlecanary, but given that H&M seem incapable of keeping quiet for long I guess the concern is what comes next.
Those who refer to it as a soap opera aren't wrong either ...

Edited

I agree. Meredith will have left or been sacked by the end of the year. Par for the course with them and their staff.

My guess is he wasn’t aware and just thought they were glad to be of ‘service’ because he is a Prince. He comes across as gullible and naive in the book. Probably why he’s never accepted he is guilty.

I think it’s very likely though that Andrew had been surrounded by women throwing themselves at him for much of his younger years (much like footballers experience now). He doesn't strike me as a deep thinker and he obviously has a huge ego so it probably never occurred to him that an overweight 40 year old and a young navy pilot might not have quite the same appeal…

Needspaceforlego · 01/10/2025 12:23

At 40 in the photo with Virginia he looks reasonably fit. He piled on the weight after he left the navy.

NewAgeNewMe · 01/10/2025 12:56

I can’t quite believe that even if andrew didn’t know that he wasn’t at the very least briefed by his security. Surely someone would have cottoned on.

I'm a middle manager and I do lots of planning and prep at home, after work, because I rarely get any interrupted time. A few hours in quiet is very helpful for for reading, absorbing, and analyzing reports and policy. Any sort of quiet non- physical deep work seems to trigger a sort of Puritan response for people. Unless you are running around making noise people don't think you are working. I've also noticed that the people who made a big fuss about working often don't - it's all surface.

I agree. Those arguing that W is lazy (because they don't see him out and about much) and then argue that he puts minimal effort into the visits he does make. And in addition, all the other work he does - well, he has a staff of 80 to do that for him, we don't see him doing it, so we choose to believe he is lazy.

They are the epitome of presenteeism ideology - if I don't see it, it doesn't happen - with a big dose of lack of imagination.

I'd prefer a head-of-state-in-waiting to be doing more important things than the out-of-date Princess Anne-style meetings. And I wouldn't wish a steady diet of open-the-new-library/hospital/town hall on anyone - pointless make-work that had a purpose in the days when not everyone had a TV, but so unnecessary now that everyone has a smartphone.

Everyone should write a will, of course they should but sometimes circumstances are difficult for certain people and it gets overlooked

40%of people in this country don't have a will. It's a really big issue, even if the heirs are known, being faced with an estate of someone who died intestate (just had to do it).

My one campaign at the moment is to encourage everyone to write a will.

prelovedusername · 01/10/2025 13:36

Couldn’t agree more @MrsLeonFarrell. I think people naively imagine everything automatically goes to the next of kin so they don’t need to bother.

BemusedAmerican · 01/10/2025 13:37

In New York, if you die without a will and have no relatives, the state gets the estate. No info on what the state does with the funds.

Well would security have looked that closely?
They are looking for security risks, people potentially linked to terrorist organisations, potential threats to Andrews safety.

They wouldn't really have cared too much about teenagers who appeared to be there with their own free will, even if the were making themselves available to rich men.

Were security men also having their way?

NewAgeNewMe · 01/10/2025 13:59

And that’s the tragedy isn’t it? All those men with young girls and only a woman behind bars. Turns my stomach.

Agree wholeheartedly a British woman behind bars, and three British citizens Andrew, Sarah and Mandleson carrying the proverbial can while American men get off scott free.

Needspaceforlego · 01/10/2025 15:44

You know it hadn't actually thought about it that Epstien is dead and the others carrying the can are British.

I can't even work out how Epstien got to know all those powerful men in the first place.

Serenster · 01/10/2025 16:07

Jes Staley (Global CEO of Barclays, now sacked and banned from working in the City again) is American - but his consequences only came about because he misled the UK Financial Services Regulator about his relationship with Epstein, in the same way Mandelson did.

And a British woman, at that. Not a single American prosecuted, except Epstein himself, and he got a very light sentence compared to Ghislaine.

CathyorClaire · 01/10/2025 16:52

Late to the party but this article on the use of BV funds is interesting:

www.theguardian.com/uk-news/2023/nov/23/revealed-king-charles-secretly-profiting-from-the-assets-of-dead-citizens

15% to charity and a marked increase in expenditure renovating Duchy properties since 2020 when an internal duchy policy widened permitted expenditure with an acknowledgment that C3 might benefit indirectly from increased rents in said renovated properties.

Passing mention too that using BV funds for these renovations saves the Duchy a substantial amount in paying for contractors with its own funds.

C3's short arms and deep pockets seemingly in play once again.

If King Charles had got any sense,he'd have made Harry sign a non-disclosure agreement before speaking to him! As a previous poster said, everything that is said will be fodder for his next book.

to be fair here, nothing has been disclosed on what was discussed. I would imagine Charles was very circumspect on what was said. He isn’t a idiot. Nothing would have been said that Charles would take issue if it was leaked.

The issue is Harry and Megan went into an absolute frenzy of spin. Repeatedly planting stories about Harry coming back , joint engagements, invictus, sharing rhe load with his father, kids being educated here etc.

Clearly not a bar of that was discussed or agreed with Charles, and the palace shut it down.as it was almost daily stories being placed to position them as half in half out.

And not a peep since the palace shut it down. The palace has the contacts, they’d have just asked where these stories were coming from, they’d know it was Harry and Megan placing them, and as it was reaching such a frenzy from them, they had to act to shut it down and make it clear, the sandringham summit stood and half in half out wasn’t on the table.

and now after a snippy reposte blaming men in grey suits, once again Harry and Megan have went to ground.

I think either they told him and he couldn't have cared less or they knew they would get a mouthful of abuse and he'd do what he wanted anyway so didnt bother. I suspect when it comes to the Royals the only point of their advisors is for them to fall on their swords when people find out and get annoyed at their shitty behaviour. So they ignore advice then someone gets sacked for not protecting them from themselves. The alternative is that they are constantly employing incompetent staff who, despite having the entire state mechanism at their disposal, dont know anything about anyone.

Well the first ones about the gushing positive emotional nature of the meeting (no content) were briefed immediately from ‘sources’ to People and Us - which are H&M’s go to US media to target their US commercial interests. I can’t see how BP would have any interest in ‘leaking’ such a story to these US media outlets - or these specific US H&M friendly outlets writing a story without H&M complicit - that would be killing the golden goose.

AND the repeated jibes at William for not pulling his weight and the related assertions that KC3 is annoyed with W for that reason. Those are the more serious plants.

I think if Harry really is trying to reconcile with his family this might not help matters

Can someone legal, maybe @Serenster, explain why William is relevant in a case where he isn't the claimant? To my untrained eye it seems that Harry knows his own evidence doesn't support his accusations in this particular case so he is searching for anything he can use to attack the paper.

I can't see it helping his relationship with William.

elessar · 02/10/2025 08:57

That’s just odd. I’m also no legal expert but it seems very strange to me for Harry to be using examples relating to his brother and SIL in a case that is about hacking or unlawful information gathering on himself.

clearly he must think it helps his case but it’s extremely ill mannered to do so without permission (which he clearly does not have)

bluegreygreen · 02/10/2025 09:05

That's what I'm wondering, @MrsLeonFarrell. Is this the case where he's already been told he needs to have definite evidence to present?
