Is Kate Middleton wearing a blonde WIG?

Saw pictures today of Catherine, The Princess of Wales at the Natural History Museum.

https://www.dailymail.co.uk/femail/article-15064693/Princess-Wales-natural-history-museum-return-work-summer.html

I’m glad to see her back to work and looking happy. I’m also stunned by how different her hair looks. I always admired her amazing brown hair, so the blonde is quite the shock. Maybe it’s the wind and the rain creating the effect, but it almost looks like she is wearing a wig?

Just to clarify, I understand she went through cancer treatment and that can affect the hair in many ways. If she is wearing a wig, I really really don’t see a problem with it. If anything, it would be such a boon to cancer patients and people with alopecia etc who do wear wigs frequently. They could see that even wearing a wig you could look as fabulous as Kate.

Either way what is your verdict, wig or her own hair? Does the blonde suit her or do you prefer her as a brunette?

For the Vote:
You are being unreasonable, Kate's hair is all her own.
You are NOT being unreasonable, it's defiantly a wig.

Also as a side note I love her outfit.

Good Heir Day! Kate returns to duties with blonde post-holiday hair

The Princess of Wales joined her husband Prince William to visit the Natural History Museum in London today as they returned to duties after their summer break.

I hear you. Extravagantly long (and specifically princess styled hair) on women is like box dye on men.
I think its particularly jarring on women who have serious roles (eg royals, politicians) because it clashes directly witj how the public would like to perceive them as spending their time.
Diana with her short hair always looked like she could potentially roll up her sleeves and get stuck into something.

Diana was an aristocrat to her finger tips. She didn't roll her sleeves up that often, I suspect.

Because lots of women will want to copy her hair. I would want people in Hollywood to admit it when asked also.

Show your proof or you are an outright liar!

Wow. I hope nobody would have the damned impertinence to pose such a question!
The PoW owes nobody any handy beauty tips, or explanations about her own preferences. It’s grim enough for her knowing she’s closely scrutinised. I’d think (and I’m as bad, having expressed my opinion in this thread)

Well, the issue with that is that there are millions of Catherines and Katherines, and not everyone wants to kowtow by using her ridiculous, anachronistic title.

Saying 'Kate Middleton' is recognisable shorthand. Just as Princess Diana was still referred to as that in the years after her divorce, long after that had stopped being her title. (And as she remained 'Lady Di', pronounced 'Lady Dee', for years in Europe.)

Yes I do understand that lots of people are too lazy to call people by their correct name. And I think we’d recognise her from the photo anyway… And what’s this about how people in Europe ( Uk is in Europe by the way) used to pronounce “ Lady Di” got to do with the price of fish?!

You win the prize for cramming the most nasty comments into just a few lines.

The poor woman has been very ill.

I like Kate with her dark hair, but everyone likes to play round from time to time. I actually have wondered about Charlotte's hair in a handful of photos, and thought it looked like she'd had a bit of lightener in places.

But so what? Most of the women I know have their hair coloured. She'd be more unusual then not at her age if she didn't.

And if it were a wig, it doesn't take much to connect the dots as to why someone might have a wig after chemo.

She looks well-groomed and elegant and she's out doing a job.

It's nasty to say that a woman whose entire goal in life is to be bland is looking bland? It's her job to be bland. She never steps outside of the very boring rules she has to follow and people still go on about every slight alteration to her appearance. It's not me who is analysing a very slight hair colour change and questioning if she's wearing a wig.

What is this rubbish about women not having long hair after a certain age?!

I am in my mid thirties and have ‘long princess’ hair and have no intention of chopping it off when I reach the arbitrary age of 40.

I think it's people with life-long shit hair who hope the people they envy have theirs lopped off at a certain age to even up the score.

Or just plain old misogyny. Woman with long, not straight hair = not a serious person 🙄Women in minority communities have had to put up with similar attitudes about their hair for years.

TATT2 · 04/09/2025 15:27

Looks like her own hair to me - possibly some extensions. Maybe disguising greys? She still looks fabulous.

Why be ashamed of it? Wouldn't it be great for wig wearers to feel like she was proud to wear one?

After being through any chemo your hair will become brittle or fall out. I think it’s great she is embracing wearing a wig. It’s a very good quality, we need to normalise wig wearing

Not all chemo!

Exactly, and teenage girls often get bullied for having short hair.

jonthebatiste · 04/09/2025 15:30

Definitely not one of her best looks, and I also think the extensions and length and fake curls are really old fashioned now (on everyone, not just her) and actually have stopped suiting her at this point. BUT, the woman has been through chemo and she's photographed and on front pages around the world. I think maybe she just needs to switch up whoever is advising her on hair/make-up. We all get to an age where we think the way we look outside doesn't match how we feel inside. Acceptance is a difficult path to go down!

whymewhyme · 04/09/2025 15:30

I think she is wearing a wig, ive thought it for a while. It looks like a lovely wig but it looks very heavy to me

I don't understand the horror around women with short hair these days. I think Kate would rock a bob.

I hesitate to expand on my already invasive opinions, but I wasn’t saying that only shorter hair is the required thing when we get older.
Not at all! I think long (especially grey) hair is fab on older women.

I just dislike a ‘do that seems to have its own entourage, as it were, and exists as a phenomenon almost independently from the women under it.
More often than not it’s ‘cartoon princess’ hair taken to an extreme, and in some weird way creates a general sense of dissonance.
(And the more I try to explain this, the worse it must sound; I know. )

Bah. Kate’s fab and lovely whatever she’s doing with her hair, and despite my citing a few names, this is really an abstract or disinterested stupidity of mine, they serving as visual aids I guess.

JFDIYOLO · 04/09/2025 15:36

It's zero business of yours or ours.

And starting a vote on how a woman who has come through cancer looks??????

WT actual F??????

MaggieBsBoat · 04/09/2025 15:37

I think she looks gorgeous and I like her very much for no reason at all. Not sure why as I am a raving republican. Maybe she has hypnotised me!

I think it’s balayage.
also WTAF why can’t the Daily Mail spell correctly? I mean, I forgive and don‘t really care posters about on here - defiantly anyone, but a newspaper should do better!

Bowies · 04/09/2025 15:41

Professionally lightened but her hair. Probably gone lighter as she’s going grey.

dayswithaY · 04/09/2025 15:42

It’s a wig and it’s way too heavy for her face, the ringlets are ridiculous.

I think our Cath needs to sack the stylist and start again. Get her out of those earthy brown colours, tweed blazers, brogues and slim leg trousers.

Lose the Farrah Fawcett hair.

I understand that she’s trying to relate to people by wearing mid range clothes but she needs an update.

Sunholidays · 04/09/2025 15:43

100% her hair, maybe extensions but I doubt it.

This is the real ugly face of women tearing down other women.

So much for the "sisterhood"

I would expect those discussing C's looks to post photos of themselves to see if they can take what they dish!

Why? Why should they be? It's the bullying that's wrong not the hair!

I think it’d be the wig wearers who ought not feel any shame, rather than her responsibility to provide
validation there.
Do women wearing wigs feel bad though? I thought it was quite the thing, especially for a quick change in colour. Tons of models and other famous faces use wigs and hairpieces.
Wigs were part of many women’s wardrobes years ago, when maintaining a hairdresser ‘do was too much faff (eg on a Summer holiday) Very common in the 1960s

If it’s about cancer treatment, wouldn’t you say she’s already ripped open her private self for public info/assurance, and so on?

Plinkyplankplonk · 04/09/2025 15:46

As a wig wearer myself, no.

millymae · 04/09/2025 15:48

I truly don’t care whether it’s a wig, extensions or her natural hair that has been dyed but my view is that her hairdresser (who presumably is considered to be one of the best there is) has let her down badly on this occasion. The colour and the length are doing her no favours at all - perhaps it looks better in real life
None of us know what effect chemo had on her hair or whether she is starting to go grey or not, but what I do know is that when a family member of a similar age went through chemotherapy (she cold capped and was lucky to suffer very little hair loss) she was advised to stay away from hair dyes for quite sometime after treatment finished. I have no idea if this is still the advice given but if it is I’d be very surprised if Catherine’s current colour is as a result of the dyeing process, unless there are some extremely gentle products that can be used.
As someone who had a pixie cut for years and now a shortish bob I am not a great fan of very long hair on anyone, and I felt long before she was diagnosed with cancer that the time had come for her to go shorter.
A few weeks ago there was an AI photo doing the rounds on social media of her with shoulder length brown bob which took years off her and looked absolutely stunning.

forgivingfiggy · 04/09/2025 15:48

I don’t know if it’s a wig or extensions. But I think her hair really lets her down. Her outfit is great. She has a good face, the hair is a bit batshit. It’s too long, too ‘done’. As another poster said, she could really carry off a shorter hairstyle and GASP, her natural colour. Everything else is so polished, she can unclench with the hair.
