William's non attendance to important events

Since there is a flurry of discussion on another thread its probably best to create a thread for it to take place here and not derail another one.

So William is not attending a number of important events the recent one being the VJ day..lots of you think he should have after all he is the future King and if he can't make time for these things then it begs the question what is the point of them?

So discuss away...what should he turning up to, what is his actual role if he starts to not do these types of things...

I generally like W&K but yeah I'm not bowled over by their work ethic. By the time they stop using their kids as an excuse they'll be using their old age as an excuse.

A particular poster on mumsnet who would never ever hear one tiny criticism against any of the royal family once said on here that she would be quite happy if william and kate didn't do any work until Louis is 18. 🫨😒😱

That is what we are dealing with here with some people (not all, I have to say I admire some posters who are obviously pro-Royals who have politely said that William should have attended the VJ commemorations. They are the rational Royalists who make interesting discussion possible).

Wheresthebeach · 20/08/2025 19:49

Nope KC was there and that’s all that’s needed. William is likely to be going to all these events for a very long time. He should enjoy family time while he can. Can’t believe how unsympathetic people are about PoW cancer and the shock it has been for them all, not to mention terrifying. The endless criticism of William is just nasty.

Your post makes no sense in relation to the nanny.
The RF have a nanny or Nannies.
so what? Many people do .

The rest of your point while true is nothing to do with having a nanny or not 🤷‍♀️

In your opinion ...

Ah the ones that agree with YOU 😂😂

Not the point of the thread, but I'd love to know where K gets her hair extensions done. Maintaining those must be a full-time job in itself 😃

He does a lot of work 'under the radar' that is not hitting the news.

If that is the case, how do you know about it?

For example, a few months ago, the Telegraph published an article about his Duchy. The newspaper visited the Duchy, spoke with locals, and reported: ‘The Prince tries to visit parts of the Duchy once every four to six weeks, working his way through its farms and offices to meet families and staff, shake hands, and ask them what he can do to help. His visits are usually private, rarely making the Court Circular, and are kept quiet by loyal locals who are accustomed to royal comings and goings.’

jamnpancakes · 20/08/2025 19:48

You say that but they do maybe have to worry about many people on here bullying them and their children on this thread today.

You honestly think william and kate are reading mumsnet? Oh do come off it!

You may want to quash discussion but seriously...

I certainly am not 'bullying'... I just think William in particular needs to look up 'work ethic' in the dictionary. And he should have attended the VJ day events, he could have helicoptered to Wales where there were numerous commemorations.

jamnpancakes · 20/08/2025 19:49

Not at all. We are at polar opposites about the whole Royal Family but some posters can see that perhaps William made a mistake here.

Those posters will go back to totally supporting the royal family but did find this misstep wrong

I'm generally (very?) pro-Royal because I liked the Queen and I like Kate. And my grandparents (military connections) were very pro-QE2 as well.

But I have no problem saying I was surprised and disappointed not to see W&K at VJ celebrations. Their holiday should have been worked round that. I'm surprised the Daily Mail et al didn't make more of a fuss re their absence, especially as they allegedly have it in for W&K atm due to lack of stories from their camp.

They don’t have a grandmother living with them. Where are you getting that from?

I don't imagine they've got a night nanny either.

Not everything they do is reported as they don't want it to be.

I can't believe the nastiness on this thread about a man who lost his mum as a child, whose father has cancer, whose wife has cancer (or had and is in remission), whose brother slags him off in public , and is simply trying to keep his shit together and be a good dad as well as a Royal.

Poor William, he has such an awful life. My heartstrings are well and truly plucked.

There is nothing 'nasty' about this thread. I don't dispute that he has had challenges in life - but show me one person who hasn't faced things like this and worse. This is a site aimed at parents - the vast majority of people on here will have had to juggle difficulties with parenthood.

William is not special. Except that he has privileges of a kind that most people can only dream of.

And I just don't believe that they are secretly toiling away on our behalf and are so modest they don't allow their labours to be publicised. A lot of resources go into the RF's public relations; they have never been averse shouting about whatever makes them look good.

Oh someone on here will no doubt be able to tell you all her hairdressing secrets. People are making all manner of claims about her private life.

No! I would assume that a 12, 10 and 7 year old probably sleep through the night and don't need feeds 😂!

TheignT · 20/08/2025 19:56

BemusedAmerican · 20/08/2025 19:30

Adelaide Cottage has 4 bedrooms. Did they put Carole in the garage?

Could it be they have the situation that is condemned on MN? Children sharing a bedroom. If the nanny lives in it must be three children in one room. Social services need to get involved.

Chatting to people isn't work though.

I wouldn’t think so either.
I have no idea where that poster is getting all their information from, it’s all over the shop.

jamnpancakes · 20/08/2025 19:44

Do you know what lives they have in the future? Have you consulted Baba Vanga?

What I mean are these threads are always the same. Those supportive of the monarchy pile on to say how tough they have it and how deserving they are whilst being happy to doom the royal children to the same apparently difficult life. You can see it in the press already - George is the serious one, Charlotte is the confident one, Louis is the cheeky/naughty one. They’re already being sold to the public as their characters. Do you honestly think they’ll have the freedom to choose their own paths in life?

I didn't think for a second that any of them read mn 😂😂 seriously thought there has been a great deal of bullying on this thread today. We all know SM is a big part of it . It doesn't have to be face to face.

Yeah, that's horrible. I think the dc should be kept private but the fans want to see them don't they.

Well we know George is the heir but if he doesn't want to then it will pass on . We literally have no idea what careers or who they will marry or anything. Did Harry have his life mapped out for him ? Look - he is living a different life so it happens.

And look at how Harry has been treated by the press for stepping away.

So it did hit the news then...
