William's non attendance to important events

Since there is a flurry of discussion on another thread its probably best to create a thread for it to take place here and not derail another one.

So William is not attending a number of important events the recent one being the VJ day..lots of you think he should have after all he is the future King and if he can't make time for these things then it begs the question what is the point of them?

So discuss away...what should he turning up to, what is his actual role if he starts to not do these types of things...

It was one example. Maybe they don't work and want a helping hand or cba to get up in the night.

Yeah that’s really poor.

They’ve had the same nanny since George was 8 years old.

Having her mother move in alongside a nanny and a night nurse (here ya go, they advertised with Norland for one again with Charlotte https://www.theduchessdiary.com/will-kate-will-hire-maternity-nurse-royal-baby-2/ ) isn’t exactly a good look.

I thought Catherine’s mum stayed for a short while when George was tiny and they were living in Anglesey and William’s nanny came out of retirement on a temp basis to help. Then they hired Maria, a Norland nanny who has been with them since 2014.

Nothing wrong with that as far as I’m concerned 🤷‍♀️

jamnpancakes · 20/08/2025 19:11

Is it @LifeOfAShowGirl? Maybe some people need help with establishing feeding and sleeping patterns? I don't know. I never used one.

Maybe William will do that. It began with a William. Maybe it will end with a William.

That’s very interesting, actually. It could end in 2066? 1000 years (give or take the odd catholic!).

I'm referring to people who use Nannies, night nurses, au pairs etc. It's very common for many in certain sectors.

He doesn't habe to do every single thing but he is our head of state, an occasion such as VJ day should be of importance to attend! Like I said he can disrupted his holiday to go to support them football team but not commemorate people.who died for our freedom. That's pretty bad.

As for wanting to chnage if and be smaller fine go do that, let's take back the hundreds of.millions we give them for the sovereign grant and fill out financial black hole instead so we aren't suffering more taxes. He gets his share from the duchy £20m...Charles gets the same..£20m a yr is plenty e ough to life and quieter life. The houses the grant upkeep can be turned into tourist attractions earning their own upkeep...

Right now when we are staring down the barrel of more taxes more hardship...they are quite frankly taking the piss out of us

He's not our head of state. All members of the family have staff who discuss who will do whichever engagements and when. In that way they manage to spread the work load as equally as possible despite two members of the family having cancer and overlap i minimised.

It started with an Alfred.

I have two days left. I’ve billed three times my salary in three months. I’d say I’ve given value for money 😉

Everyone has reasons, don't they? Someone else, for example, might argue that their personal moments (weddings, funerals, births) are for public consumption, so they are justified in keeping some things private, such as illness, and taking a back seat as their whole life is mapped out with duties and responsibilities.

LifeOfAShowGirl · 20/08/2025 18:59

Oh get real.

Night nannies are a thing for the uber rich to use. If they’ve got one there’s no need for them to be skipping work for the children.

A night nannie? Nobody but nobody helps many people.

A cute fluffy video about slowing down and spending time with family after her recovery. I’m sure so many millions of people with cancer would love to be afforded that luxury!

But what was the point of it, to tell the nation to spend more time with family?

I am so glad that Kate reminded me that it is good to spend time with family, I would never have thought of it otherwise. I do need to fit it round my full time day job though.

I do like the royal family and am generally supportive of them. However I have to agree, William doesn’t appear to have done many engagement at all over the last 6 months. And missing VJ Day is pretty poor. Compared with some of the Scandinavian royals, for instance crown princess Victoria of Sweden, who also has young children, he seems to have a very light engagement diary.

Her diary is not publicly known or released. Do you have inside information?

Oh please. You know exactly why they got one. Getting up with the baby is something us commoners do.

CurlewKate · 20/08/2025 19:22

I hold no brief for W&C. But I know quite a lot of people who’ve had night nannies in the more affluent but not uber rich end of my social circle.

And I don’t understand why C’s mother moving in for a while is “not a good look”

But also, as someone who used to brief politicians for visits it really doesn’t take much time to prepare yourself providing your briefing notes are good.

Ihateboris · 20/08/2025 19:23

They're all just a bunch of arrogant, lazy pillocks...that we're stupid enough to pay for. Twas ever thus.

IAmATorturedPoet · 20/08/2025 19:23

They have a full live in staff. They have a night nanny. They have a grandmother living with them. They have a full time nanny. And they still don’t work as hard as the elderly family members and never have.

I've asked this upthread, and I'm going to ask again; genuinely - how do you know about their staffing arrangements? It's not in the public domain. All I can find is unsubstantiated and conflicting rumours and gossip.

BemusedAmerican · 20/08/2025 19:26

My sister stayed with my nephew and his wife for a while after their baby was born. Both parents worked and my sister handled the night care so that they could get enough sleep. She still does childcare a few days a week. They live remotely and it's hard to find a full-time nanny willing to travel.

They did when the children were little and they still didn’t work! You also mean to tell me that Kate is deathly unwell and her family aren’t with her?

Where have you got that from that her mother lives full time with them and has done for the past 10 years since George was born. I'm sure Kate's father would have something to say about that.

Aethelredtheunsteady · 20/08/2025 18:17

Or sons - childcare shouldn't be down to women.

You are right to pick me up on that! What was in my mind was a daughter ie Charlotte identifying with her mum and, in this case, not seeing a model of independence and being capable.

PigglyWigglyOhYeah · 20/08/2025 19:29

They have a full live in staff.

Well, no. They haven’t. They moved to Adelaide Cottage and much was made of the fact they had no live in staff.

BemusedAmerican · 20/08/2025 19:30

Adelaide Cottage has 4 bedrooms. Did they put Carole in the garage?
