Prince Harry's Wreath

So apparently Prince Harry has asked someone to lay a wreath on his behalf to honour the 80th anniversary of VJ Day.
I know the military meant a lot to him but he's being called out on it as he mentions his grandfather. I'd like to think he did this with the best intentions but the cynic in me wonders if he did it as a dig at William for only posting a message on social media.

Off topic but can I ask you about Profhilo?

Yes of course, I wouldn't recommend it, it did nothing at all and my face swelled up. I was unwell (unbeknownst to me at the time) with a virus , and since having it my face swells again if I am unwell .

Thanks, sorry to hear that. I have been debating about getting it.

Profhilodisaster · 18/08/2025 16:51

I wouldn't waste your money

Shame he didn't feel such respect for the regiment he dumped so quickly, enabling him to attend a Disney premiere to tout his wife's skills.

upinaballoon · 18/08/2025 17:47

I can't read it but I don't see why he shouldn't mention his grandfather. His grandfather was the captain of a ship which took on board prisoners of war and there's an interesting video of him being interviewed about his experiences in WW2. It should be shown on proper TV now and again.
It's possible that Harry had more than one motive for writing this message. Most actions have a host of reasons behind them.

BigWillyHazyHarold · 18/08/2025 17:54

He should've shown respect for his grandfather in life, particularly at the end stage.

ginasevern · 18/08/2025 18:01

With all the pedophilic, adulterous, tax dodging crap that this family are mired in and yet who lays a bloody wreath is the most important issue?

muddyford · 18/08/2025 18:04

He didn't show his grandfather much respect in the last few weeks of his life, and couldn't dump his military connections fast enough.

smilesy · 18/08/2025 19:12

Did he acknowledge the 80th anniversary of VE Day this year? (I can’t remember ) Has he ever acknowledged VJ Day before? Why has this suddenly become so important to him? Has he ever asked for a wreath to be laid on August 15th? Couldn’t be a bit of “look at me”, could it?

missed a bit out

Since reconciliation with the living has failed it is time to latch onto corpses of relatives whom H disrespected at the end of their lives.

To paraphrase a pp on another thread...H really has more front than Blackpool!

Profhilodisaster · 18/08/2025 20:46

Harry had previously asked permission for a wreath to be laid at the cenotaph on his behalf but this was refused on the grounds that he's no longer a working royal.
For VE Day this year, he sent a WWII veteran an Invictus medal and I think he has laid a wreath in the US just after moving there.

"Remember me?", more like.

He must have heard there's a 4-bed house coming free on the Windsor estate soon.

But definitely not as bright.

Who, ever, said it is "the most important issue"?

It is an amusing snippet of info, at the very least. If you read more into it, it is perhaps the latest tone-deaf attempt by the prodigal son to winkle his way back onto the Royal benefits grift.

If neighbour Fred's house across the way is on fire, that's no reason to think that someone sneaking into your back door to nick your handbag is an unimportant nothingburger.

I’m just glad that those who suffered under the Japanese are being remembered, I don’t care by whom. What they went through was unimaginable, and they didn’t talk about it because they were told not to. Heroes everyone of them.

BemusedAmerican · 19/08/2025 00:48

Can't he just quietly have someone lay a wreath? Why does he have to issue a press release?

CalzoneOnLegs · 19/08/2025 02:31

It’s blurred

Well.. I think it’s pretty obvious.

Tourist29 · 19/08/2025 07:23

The headed crown paper and sign off with two titles - very mixed messages from someone who gave up the royal family/his family to live in America

Ohpleeeease · 19/08/2025 08:14

It is the strangest thing isn’t it? He’s like the ghost of a royal, still going through the motions but nobody knows he’s there. The letter says all the right things, and if it had come from a real royal, i.e a working one, it would be fine.

Whenever Harry pulls a stunt like this it reminds me of those groups who had a flurry of success early in their career, split up through “artistic differences”, reformed in various iterations and then spend the rest of their lives playing run down holiday camps and clubs and anywhere else who’ll have them to increasingly disinterested audiences.

I don’t have the words. How self regarding that he feels anyone cares about his views on the matter. It comes across as deeply patronising.

So how was he able to do it? It’s very strange.

chunkybear · 19/08/2025 09:05

I think it’s complex. He had fallen out of favour with the RF and seemingly most of the planet. He don’t give a shit about his beloved grandfather when he was dying in hospital and him and his gold digger ‘wife’ started their smear campaign against him, HMQEII and family/the establishment. He and The Claw use every opportunity to jump in the back of a tragedy or PR potential issue where they can stomp all over it, waving their ‘look at me’ flags and banners whilst selling their personal curated photographs and perfectly poised drama/tearful/faux-empathetic faces to any rag that will throw money at them. So when it comes to anything Hazmat or Megain do, it’s always self serving and NEVER for the good of anyone else … so for me this is a Hazza / Megain whoring situations yet again for their personal gain EVERY.FUCKING. OPPORTUNITY!

MrsLeonFarrell · 19/08/2025 09:14

I'm sure he released the letter with the very best of motives, honouring the dead and adding a personal family connection as many of us do when showing about past events.

I'm sure he would be shocked by the comments here as he still believes that he is living a life of service, a life where publicly released letters and statements are expected and normal. A life of service he thinks he has been living for 35 years. He believes his very existence is service. I disagree that he still has a public role and I find these publuc statements a bit sad but I doubt he cares.

On another note though at least attention is being given to this part of WW2, there is an interesting podcast about it on BBC sounds at the moment.
