I liked his other 2 books. He allegedly is going to cover Epstein in the US and his death. I'm not cancelling my order. I'll post as I finish a chapter.

Will look forward to your comments @BemusedAmerican. It was your recommendation of the other 2 books that made me consider buying this, but the Times interview was a bit too far for me.

I have never used my audible credits ! Does this mean I can get free books?

If you don't use your audible credits surely you're paying for nothing? What else do you get for the subscription?

I have had my Amazon account since it started! , I have the music, the books ( on my kindle) , multiple Alexa’s and obviously the delivery and tv , they give me discounts all the time and audible was thrown in for free, I’ve never used it because I prefer reading to listening 🤷‍♀️ every so often I get an email saying they have given me free credits!

Apple also gave me the tv for free because of the length of time and amount I had paid in the past, I’m afraid with kids who want access to music and tv , my subscriptions just auto pay and I don’t pay much attention.

Anyone know when/if Bower’s new book is coming out ?

Sorry if already answered - 14th August on Kindle

I think you only get Audible credits if you pay for them seperately. I pay for one a month, and it just sits there until I use it. It’s ridiculously expensive and I keep forgetting to cancel it-there are much cheaper ways to get audiobooks now.

@Mylovelygreendress Sorry sorry - I meant Lownie not Bower - my mistake.

Sorry-missed this-I officially know nothing! I joined Audible before it was Amazon. Log on to Audible and see how many credits you’ve got….I’m quite excited about this!

CoffeeCantata · 11/08/2025 11:09

I think this thread is almost full! I've really appreciated all the discussions - on something that both royalists and republicans can largely agree on: that Prince Andrew and Fergie need to be comprehensively done away with as soon as possible.

It will be interesting to see what happens over the next few months. I think things grind exceedingly slowly in the RF (esp with a poorly, elderly monarch) so I'm not expecting anything this week or next, but I'm sure it will give KC the ammo he needs to move more decisively against Andrew. If he doesn't, of course, that's not going to help his image.

CurlewKate · 11/08/2025 11:46

I’ve really enjoyed these threads too- apart from anything else it’s been great to discuss issues around the monarchy with practically no sniping! I’m hoping we can have a thread to discuss the book once some of us have read/listened to it. Is anyone interested in that? To be honest, I’m as interested in how it’s presented from an “academic” point of view as I am in the facts/gossip. Not that I’m averse to gossip either!

Oh I was wondering! I sometimes join Audible in the summer if I have a long journey and I get monthly credits and that's it. They do sit there until I use them though!

CoffeeCantata · 11/08/2025 12:14

@CurlewKate

Definitely!

BasiliskStare · 11/08/2025 12:29

@CurlewKate @BemusedAmerican @CoffeeCantata and others.

Maybe a bit prematurely but I've started a thread about the Lownie book, for those who will read it or listen to audible , or indeed interested.

Go to https://www.audible.co.uk/ and you should be able to log in with your Amazon account details. I think.

I’ll probably listen rather than read. Do you have a link to it?

BasiliskStare · 11/08/2025 17:15

Sorry I don't @ThePoshUns - but I think CurlewKate has done that a very few posts ago.

Oops- I’ve had to change my mind about Andrew. Just read he sacked someone for wearing a nylon tie. All is forgiven, Your Royal Highness….

And that from someone who's happy to wear a velvet curtain and elaborately feathered titfer without any sense of self-consciousness or irony whatsoever...

I always get a strong impression that Catherine and Sophie are laughing at how ridiculous their husband look on Garter Day.

NewAgeNewMe · 11/08/2025 21:23

Probably because they are. They seem from outward appearances to get on well.

Yes - there’s something very’Scarlet O’Hara off to see Rhett in prison’ about that regalia. I love the silly clothes myself but some get-ups are more dignified than others. I remember thinking KC’s coronation outfit was spoiled by his tacky purple long waistcoat and ordinary trousers.

Actually-on the very short list of things I will miss in The Glorious Republic is the silly gear. Men being forced into silk knee breeches is a recurring delight. Also grey carriage horses. But I will love not seeing beautiful frocks ruined by heirloom jewels and clashing orders.

It’s a terrible thing to lose!

The fantasy historical costume is one of the glories of the UK.

Beaten only by those utterly wonderful outfits worn by Greek guards (white tunics like dresses, white pom-poms on their shoes and crazy headgear). Marvellous stuff!
