Whatever happened to that “respected Spanish journalist” who said that Catherine was in a coma having taken an overdose? She ended up looking quite silly. That’s the thing with “sources”.

Omg, ttere was some crazy stuff last year about W&C.

Yet so many on here hold Charles and other members of the RF responsible for Andrew. It's odd isn't it ?

KC3 has more influence over what happens to PA than JC has over his brother. He may not be responsible for what PA did in his past but he could shut him down completely going forward.

However there could be unwanted consequences of doing that ie PA meltdown, blabbing family secrets or even possibly a tragic ending which would dominate headlines for the rest of KC3 reign.

I wouldn't poke the bear.

OlympicWomen · 10/08/2025 20:24

Andrew is pretty much persona non grata. There's not a lot more KC can do other than end the lease on the house (which is an ongoing effort, I believe) and stop him going to church twice a year (tricky, it's a church service).

More than crazy- downright evil.

CathyorClaire · 10/08/2025 20:45

I also feel that hating Andrew so much that you kick him in rugby goes against a careful, systematic examination of his wrongdoings.

I agree.

I've cancelled my order partly because the best stuff (I don't disbelieve much) will already have been aired and partly because having seen this I don't want to pay for a book by a man with a schoolboy axe to grind.

I'll order it at the library as I did for 'Waaagh' even if I'm number twelfth of never on the wait list as was the case back then 😁

CoffeeCantata · 10/08/2025 20:48

The legacy of the awful stories lives on with some people. There are those who say C never had cancer, or that her absence was due to being beaten by William. The coma story is still believed too. It’s a horrible demonstration of the ‘post truth’ era, when people who claim to be sophisticatedly sceptical about the establishment actually believe all kinds of rubbish instead.

They did huge damage and must have been so hurtful to W &C.

I suspect the list won't be as long for this book.

I'm looking forward to people reporting what the book is like. Maybe if I see it in the library I'll flick through it!

They are still doing damage each and every day.

On social media there is an ongoing smear campaign against W&C and it always comes back to narratives generated by the Sussex Squad. A look on reddit, twitter, bluesky and the hate is inorganic. It is an Orwellian "two minutes hate" orchestrated and curated on a daily basis.

Truth and fact are out. Complicated narratives and outright lies are en vogue. And it unsurprising that the usual suspects spout the usual narratives, lies et al.

I liked his other 2 books. He allegedly is going to cover Epstein in the US and his death. I'm not cancelling my order. I'll post as I finish a chapter.

i agree ! I’m not wasting my money on a man who seems to be much less altruistic than I was led to believe.

I’ve got an audible credit, so I might join the elite team…..At least I can listen while doing something useful…

I have never used my audible credits ! Does this mean I can get free books?

OP posts:
BemusedAmerican · 11/08/2025 01:32

I get digital credits usually for $2 to $3 dollars each time for agreeing to delay my Amazon deliveries. They come with expiration dates but I usually get a free book using each credit.

gishgalloping · 11/08/2025 02:26

I agree with others that I'm finding his claims more and more dubious. How can he possibly be the right person to write about Andrew when he says he hated him at school and enjoyed seeing him hurt playing rugby? He's really overplayed his hand with some of his statements.

Valentine Low's book, Courtiers, has a lot of negative stories about Andrew but he's careful to be balanced and to be open about the credibility of his sources. From the excerpts and interviews I've seen so far, I think Lownie's book is nowhere near the same league and it's making me question the credibility of his Mountbatten book as well.

CoffeeCantata · 11/08/2025 07:16

I agree, gishgalloping. I have faith in Tom Bower and Valentine Low, not because they seem to be ‘nicer’ guys than Lownie - I’m sure they’re all self-serving! But because the first two do seem to have superior judgment about parameters and what’s reasonable to include. They also come over as very measured (in a legal/libel-conscious way) and Low particularly doesn’t make it personal. And no-one’s successfully sued them!

Its not a good look to openly admit you have a personal grudge against the subject of your biography if you want it to be taken seriously.

OlympicWomen · 11/08/2025 07:55

I also think Bower and Low have good evidence and evidence which isn't linked to them personally. Their books are interesting and convincing because of this.
Although,to be fair, I haven't read this book, but am not convinced by some of the points on here.

Mylovelygreendress · 11/08/2025 08:29

Anyone know when/if Bower’s new book is coming out ?

I’m not saying I’m right, of course- but maybe it’s better to disclose in advance any personal interactions, good or bad, with the subjects of your biographies?

OlympicWomen · 11/08/2025 09:08

Yes, I think that would be wise.

Oh no - posted too soon!

Meant to add that, at least he’s being honest and discerning readers will take that into account, but it’s not the greatest ad for the reliability of his writing. A lot of readers won’t, though, and they will gobble up the delicious titbits of varying reliability according to their personal prejudice.

We’re all feeling we need to add a disclaimer, so to be clear: I’m so glad PA and Fergie have been fully exposed for their outrageous behaviour it I’m not totally impressed or convinced about Lownie’s professional objectivity or, in fact, his standards of personal integrity.

i don’t like bullies of any kind.
