And Catherine plays the piano, waits for a chorus of “big deal” comments.

The Queen is a great supporter and participant in adult ballet and Patron of, i think, The English National Ballet. Charles is great lover of all kinds of music and paints. Catherine is Patron of the National Gallery, champions photography both personally and briskly, remember Hold Still?, and paints. Charles and Camilla are reported as often attending shows, as did the late Queen and Prince Philip, arriving just as it started and leaving promptly.

My point is that just because they don't attend in a blaze of publicity doesn't mean they are dead to the arts. It just means it isn't in the papers.

I wish the heir to the throne and his wife would promote it more.

Oh pleeeease!

That is really funny 🤣

Haha... they can promote the british society of macrame for all I care.!

My point is, they seem disinterested in what makes our country tick as far as arts, culture etc. Such a shame.

I am just very curious why they... with all the openings at their disposal... they just don't seem curious or interested in anything I have mentioned. Such a waste.

Catherine is a keen and very competent photographer so much so that Camilla asked her take her 75th birthday photos .
She is also Patron of the National Portrait Gallery and has made several visits ( remember she has a History of Art degree). She is also a ballet lover as is Charlotte .

vera99 · 08/08/2025 21:59

Charles is certainly a skilled painter—arguably on par with Churchill and Hitler, and perhaps even better than both.

I did not say YOU had done it.

I said it was done.

Trying to wriggle out of it now, yes you did, you put your post under my post implying and trying to give the false impression it was me who did that, and so I will use the “silly” phrase again of at least own it as it’s clear you won’t apologise.

They promote the arts quite a lot. I follow their Instagram and that of the King and it's amazing how many engagements don't get reported.

She's opened an exhibition, big deal !

The two of them should be singing the praises of all the UK has to offer. Continually.

They don't. They are lazy and uninterested.

No - she’s been involved in devising the exhibition. She’s an art historian by trining. Why are you putting her down like this?

It’s very strange how this thread about the Yorks has turned into a thread about what Philistines William and Catherine apparently are.

CoffeeCantata · 08/08/2025 22:09

Jumping - I don’t like your sneering tone about people’s efforts.

C plays the piano - she’s not Alfred Brendel but playing in public at all for an amateur in that context is challenging. I don’t get the scorn.

Leave the woman alone.

The spite is barely concealed and true colours are showing now.

In my experience lefties are usually like this.

I paint and that one on the left is very good. Watercolour is a really difficult medium.

Is it by Charles? Good for him.

Well, Jumping? Are you going to explain your spiteful remarks about Catherine - which are pretty ignorant?

And Princess Anne had a thing with Camilla’s ex - even Prince Philip’s long-time very attractive and much younger "companion|" showed up at his funeral. Honestly, they’ve all been hopping into each other’s beds for decades while the country’s in chaos. But sure, they go to church and say their prayers, so that makes it all fine… oh and the King gets to be head of the Established Church🙄

Lownies' throwaway comment that PP had an affair with Fergie's mum is a new one to throw into the pot and one that I hadn't heard of before muck raker that I am.

Edited

I thought fergies mother moved to Argentina to live with a tight trousered polo player.

So behave with more dignity then.

its not about sneering at people, particularly women, or being gleeful about horrible situations.

The glee is ugly.

Catherine enjoys going to the ballet - Charlotte also.

An outing fit for a Princess: Kate Middleton makes a surprise appearance as she visits the ballet to watch a matinee performance | Tatler https://share.google/F7gHdxyXiXxjp6S6k

Her and William go to the theatre fairly often too. It's been reported on several times over the years, they take the children too when appropriate.

She's worked with the V&A and has visited several times over the years.
Kate Middleton’s Curated Display at V&A East Celebrates the Art of Making https://share.google/m4ZCxkqwgj6fFJdas

There's enough to criticise the RF about, but saying they do nothing to promote the Arts in the UK is ignoring actual facts. The pp saying Meghan was interested in theatre did make me laugh out loud. She did less than the bare minimum as Patron of the NT.

JAN MOIR: Andrew is utterly irredeemable but Fergie is so much worse. Her late-night emails to me say it all--

https://archive.ph/uBYUR#selection-525.0-525.108

Of course, Andrew is appalling and utterly irredeemable – but at least he never pretended to be anything other than what he is; an entitled oik in ancestral ermine.

In many ways, Fergie is so much worse. Always so pious! Always banging on about her charitable deeds, the privations of being a single mother and how hard she has worked to settle her debts – except we now learn it was the late Queen Elizabeth who quietly paid off much of them.

And the D of Y was always praising her dull, princessy daughters to the skies, as if they were a combination of Cinderella and Little Orphan Annie; a dynamic pair of go-getters who had risen above the ashes and adversity of their circumstances to triumph on their own merits in an uncaring world.

Whereas the reality is that Beatrice and Eugenie were raised on a buffering cushion of shady money and dodgy diamonds, and remain a pair of toothy poshos who have achieved absolutely nothing in life, except an ability to keep out of trouble – a trait their parents must now envy.

Is it wrong to suggest that now the fig leaf of her lady bountiful act has been blown away in this torrent of revelations, Fergie is finally and unflinchingly exposed as a raging, entitled madam with a taste for fine wines, ski chalets, designer clothes and with a retinue of obliging staff she could never afford? And all this while encouraging the public to donate to the charities and good causes she propounds?
And she is still at it.

They have unlimited power

They cannot be questioned. Ever

They are the absolute authority. Their power is used according to laws but if they can't be questioned?
Even their RF page says they have authority over the government

No, I don't want a history or politics lesson ta!

The royal prerogative is a body of customary authority, privilege, and immunity attached to the British monarch (or "sovereign"), recognised in the United Kingdom. The monarch is regarded internally as the absolute authority, or "sole prerogative", and the source of many of the executive powers of the British government.

If you are going to use the opening of the Wikipedia page on royal prerogative for your argument (not usually the most reliable source, but no matter), it would be at least worth reading to the end of the introductory section, where you will find the statement

'the exercise of the prerogative is conventionally in the hands of the prime minister and other ministers or other government officials.'
