I'm sure there is plenty enough material about Andrew that it seems unnecessary to pad out the book with allegations that are unlikely to be true, or which sound like pure gossip but as I said before there seems to be plenty of fiction mixed in with the facts.
Take this:
"The 'very lazy' Duke of York got a high-flying Oxford graduate to sit his naval college exams and even sent him a thank you note when he passed, Mr Lownie claims."
I simply do not believe this and I think it's a disgraceful allegation that besmirches the Royal Navy itself. Having a pilot who wasn't properly qualified flying around represents a serious safety issue.
Remember, he would have been taking these exams back in the 80's. Exams were written, not typed. Was the high flying Oxford graduate also adept at forging handwriting? Dartmouth college isn't particularly big, senior people would have known most of the cadets by sight, especially Andrew obviously. The person supposedly sitting his exams for him would have had to turn up to the exam room, on more than one occasion, depending how many exams were involved and then are we to believe whoever was invigilating exams would not have noticed that someone purporting to be Andrew was not Andrew? It's ridiculous. Find the papers and submit them to a hand writing expert. Produce the proof.
Then we have the lover shared with Bill Clinton : "He has not named the woman he believes was having an affair with Andrew and Mr Clinton. He said: 'I know who the woman is. I can't say. But they, and Clinton of course, swam in the same same circles'."
Of course he can't say 🙄 In which case don't say it at all. It's just gossip.
I'm no fan of either of the Yorks, but much of the material in this book is likely rehashing what was already known, padded out with gossip and embroidery. Honestly. Save your money or wait til it appears in the charity shops.
