It's fast, considering the time difference. I wonder if H&M were on tenterhooks, wondering what the book would say about them. It'd be small recompense for what they put the rest of the family through.

A little taste of their own medicine!

I remember seeing Fergie being interviewed on 60 Minutes in Australia. Not sure if it was ever shown here. She was an absolute uppity twat.

I remember feeling really disappointed by Andrew’s choice of her in the 80s - so long ago. I knew nothing about PA, and didn’t have an opinion one way or another about him, but I thought Fergie was just so ordinary and…un-royal is the only way I can express it.

I realise that’s why a lot of people liked her!

Manly, perhaps, but I can’t see PP condoning the sort of behaviour described in this excerpt. Apart from anything else, it would be extremely risky in terms of security and scandal.

PP + TLQ tolerated a whole lot of bad behaviour from Andrew including paying for the Windsor castle gates he smashed through in a temper (although ultimately the bill as always would have fallen to the taxpayer 🙄) and the clothes and equipment of the press cohort he sprayed with paint.

That's what. I was thinking of, Jeff

I hold no candle for C3 generally as you know but the stories about him crying himself to sleep at school and his weekly postal pleas to come home falling on deaf ears are heart breaking 🙁

Yes Cathy thats what comes to my mind! , we must have read or heard the same story!
it’s hard not to feel upset and sympathetic to that vision of misery!

The allegations about Andrew’s behaviour as Trade Envoy almost beggar belief.

And at Cambridge he was largely shunned because mean people disliked him for being royal and nicer people avoided him for fear of being accused of toadying.

Life hasn’t been easy for Charles despite his wealth and privilege. Those early experiences mark you for life.

I vaguely remember watching Andrew and Sara in the grounds of (presumably) Buckingham Palace at the photo-op when their engagement was announced. They were goofing around somewhat. There was a brief interruption, blamed on a "technical issue", but I wondered at the time that maybe the transmission was stopped so they could be told to tone it down a bit. I think Sara was as much an exhibitionist as Andrew at that time.

FenellaFeldman · 02/08/2025 20:44

Andy and Fergie were always a pair of immature idiots.

jumpingthehighjump · 02/08/2025 20:47

I think he (Charles) had a horrible time at school and Uni, I think it was the time when it was 'stiff upper lip' and the royal family at that time learned little, they didn't know how or wanted to make it better. Times are slightly better... somewhat.

CoffeeCantata · 02/08/2025 20:47

They brought out the worst in each other!

It’s puzzling why Sarah Ferguson hasn’t been subjected to the same level of scrutiny as Prince Andrew, given her own controversies. For instance, she reportedly borrowed £15,000 (about $20,000) from Jeffrey Epstein in 2010, a fact that came to light during investigations into Epstein’s activities—yet she hasn’t faced comparable backlash. Add to that the sting operation I mentioned earlier, where she accepted £40,000 in exchange for offering access to Prince Andrew. And this is only what is known because they got caught.

Because she wasn’t the child of the Monarch?

CathyorClaire · 02/08/2025 21:14

Charles did this to Harry- Harry had a lease for Frogmore and had pre-paid the rent - it was still taken from Harry & Meghan.

Frogmore repayment/rent deal is an object lesson in royal ducking, diving and As Ever pocket lining.

FWIW I think Andrew has a cast iron RL deal but if that really isn't the case he has enough undisclosed dirt (for now) to keep big bro purring.

These are two completely different situations. Harry had a short-term lease on Frogmore Cottage — it expired and just wasn’t renewed. Andrew, on the other hand, has a long-term, ironclad lease on Royal Lodge. It has nothing to do with favoritism or whatever is being implied.

diddl · 02/08/2025 21:27

I think Andrew made a one of payment for the 75 year lease didn't he which would probably work out to not much rent overall.

The flip side of that was that he was supposed to maintain the property?

If not surely he was breached t&cs?

It often passes unremarked that Epstein held more private numbers for Fergie than he did for Andrew in his contact book.

Likewise the £5m mews house purchase.

She is well worth more than a passing second glance.

StartupRepair · 02/08/2025 21:31

Look forward to an analysis of all their dodgy associations and money dealings.

Edited

Both got a very sweet deal.

Two cheeks of the same royal arse IMO.

jeffgoldblum · 02/08/2025 21:33

It has become apparent to me that Andrew and Harry have an awful lot in common!
I’m hoping after Andrew and Sarah’s shady dealings are uncovered that someone also does a deep dive on Harry’s especially his charity skimming shenanigans!

Well seeing as we are discussing the book excerpts and the first instalment clearly mentions both Harry and Meghan, I would say we are all right on topic!

There’s a lot more to the book but obviously the thrill for a lot of people is the H&M stuff, Andrew’s activities don’t seem to bother them so much.

Let’s be honest Cathy had the allegations about VG not come to light we wouldn’t have heard anything about these shady dealings, it would have been brushed under the carpet! , Sarah hasn’t ( as far as we know ) done the same, so her deals were not focused on.
