The book is called “The Yorks” but the extract so far is just about Andrew. Obviously he’s the big name, but would I be right in expecting revelations about Sarah as well? Really hope there’s no dirt on the girls. (But to be fair, growing up in that house can’t have been the most emotionally healthy).

I hope details come out about Sarah. The daughters? They're not girls, they're in their late 30s and have always backed up and supported their parents. I'm wondering how far they have financially benefitted.

I’m going to say something that might get me jumped on , and could be seen as classest! , as normally I don’t say these things forgive me!

im not shocked about it @CoffeeCantata, this humour is typical of the stereotype of the braying upperclass male who went to an all boys public school!
I’ve heard it , I’ve seen it ! , normally when they reach andrews age they grow out of it! ( or reign it in!) , times have indeed changed but apparently for Andrew he has stayed emotionally in a time when he was the centre of these circles, everyone else has moved on , he apparently hasn’t!

That rings true. Yes, arrested development. That’s what I mean about there being some underlying psychological problem beyond just being spoiled.

Why any woman who didn’t have to (and of course there will have been plenty who were coerced) let him have him his horrible way, I’ll never understand.

Why ? Well for us it’s something hard to understand but realistically there are many who want to be close to celebrities or royals, how do these very rich old ( and unattractive) men get so many young wives? , why do woman write to and then marry murderers and rapists in prison?
let’s not forget we picture Andrew as he looks now and with knowledge of his personality and behaviour!
he wasn’t that unattractive when he was younger, especially when compared to trump and Clinton ( and the others!)
and I imagine he was well able to be charming and congenial if he wanted to!

I think those are good points. One "insider" wrote that KC was very concerned about the access Andy and Fergie had to the late Queen, and how they were trying to manipulate her as her health was failing. I think A&F are a pair of shysters and certainly wanted a cast iron lease on Royal Lodge, among other things.

Yes, and taking on the Queen's corgis after she died was just manipulation, there were endless articles about that and how wonderful they were and pics of Sarah cuddling the dogs.
Pathetic

Thedom · 03/08/2025 11:12

I hate to say it, but I have no sympathy for the York girls, we know they accepted cash and jewellery from Andrew's 'friends'. No doubt, they have also accepted plenty of favours.

Well... they have. Diamond necklaces from dodgy ME oligarchs, huge amounts of money landing in one of their bank accounts purportedly a wedding present and so on
To me, they are a chip off the old block

Let's not forget Beatrice was the one co-ordinating the Newsnight Maitlis interview so she must have 100% believed her father and his pathetic lies and had no sympathy for any of the victims of Epstein.

jeffgoldblum · 03/08/2025 11:24

To be honest, I don’t think about or notice the daughters to feel sympathetic but I can’t condemn them for standing by their parents, they love them and want to believe it’s not true.
im a firm believer that you shouldn’t punish a child for the parents actions, until there is solid proof of their involvement, I’m not inclined to include them.

Of course now I’ve posted that the next installation could well be all about their involvement! 🤣

I thought at the time that Kate and William moving to Windsor was designed to enable them to see more of the Queen and intercept Andrew's cosy visits a bit. Sadly she died just as they moved in.

I haven’t actually read the details, but I can imagine what they are, and I absolutely agree. I know exactly that sort of scatological “school boy humour” that a certain type of public school boy goes in for. It’s the flip side of the suave, charming manners that let them get away with it. And the people who are on the receiving end, or who witness it are either the same sort, or of a class or in a position not to be able to complain.

Epstein videos sold to Putin - mind blowing.

If any of these allegations are proven, this is serious shit that reflects incredibly badly on MI6, MI5, parliament and the palace.

The situation invites the thought that the royal family, far from being a lynch pin of the state, is a national security risk and a liability.

All because of poor judgement by the monarch who was supposed to listen to the advice of her government.

So either QE2 went rogue or the government apparatus failed.

Andrew isn’t the first member of the RF to have been a potential security risk!

The book looks really interesting from the finance point of view and I hope to hear more about Sarah's involvement.

I'm less interested in all his sexual exploits as they are just revolting, but I think it will be very interesting to see what comes out around Jefferey Epstein and the other men involved who have ducked and dived out of taking an reponsibility this far. The more that comes out the more brave I think VG was and the more saddened I am by her early death.

Thanks for the links.

You have nailed it there. I said in a previous post... it seems to me that it all works when someone doesn't go rogue like Andrew.
When that happens, parliament, police, intelligence services and MI6 all seem to be powerless.
I didn't think that is what the Monarchy is about... obviously it is.

A peer has tabled a motion for greater scrutiny of the royals in parliament. That usually gets thrown out.
Look at only last year... the Chinese spy and Andrew!

Oh yes, the corgis. So manipulative, knowing how the late Queen felt about them.

Absolutely. Throughout all this, they have lobbied both KC and William to get their father back into the fold. They are involved, how far remains to be seen.

I imagine that they probably tried to delicately talk to their mother!
but as an old lady from a generation before I doubt she could really believe what was said!
I also imagine Andrew using her love as a weapon and telling her that it was just a couple of girlfriends nothing to see here!

she wasn't always an "old lady"

No she wasn’t but Andrew wasn’t shagging about and behaving like a knob when she was , was he!

Oh yes, the ‘York girls’ have built up quite the portfolio of business links in the Middle East / Far East allegedly, courtesy of mum and dad. They married the type of men who will also benefit from these links. They are reported to have received questionable gifts and monies, as pp have noted.

Meanwhile B and E have attempted to stay close to H&M while also being pals with Piers Morgan of all people. Cynical stuff.

The House of York is dissolute, untroubled by any moral restraint, and in my mind a prime candidate for dissolution (along with the pointless House of Sussex).

CurlewKate · 03/08/2025 12:09

Pretty sure TLQ wasn’t as sweet and innocent as some people like to think she was. She was married to Philip for a very long time, after all.

FancyBiscuitsLevel · 03/08/2025 12:27

Taking the corgis - now because I believe in being fair- I understood the late queen decided after her last corgi died, she was too old to take on new puppies, deciding it wasn’t fair for a very elderly lady to buy some puppies that would have to be rehomed later. However Andrew gifted her the dogs on the understanding he would take responsibility for them after she died. That the late queen would only accept having them at her time in life if it was agreed in advance who’d have the dogs after her death. (To me, this seems likely story because genuine animal lovers do think this way.)

And yes it tracks that Andrew promised to take on the dogs but now it’s his ex-wife /kids who are actually looking after them.

As long as I don’t have to contemplate TLQ participating in the kind of activities ascribed to Andrew….

…ill have to lie down in a darkened room.

Andrew has no sons, so the York title will 'dissolve' by itself. I guess in this case, the archaic rules on only males being able to inherit a dukedom are actually a good thing.
