The situation invites the thought that the royal family, far from being a lynch pin of the state, is a national security risk and a liability.

The DM extract is suggesting that this (the security issue) could be the downfall of the monarchy.

But haven't we been here before - and in more serious circumstances? Edward VIII, later Duke of Windsor, was an even greater security risk, and not limited by being the 'spare'.

Yes , I did find that a tad melodramatic, let’s be honest now , Andrew wasn’t the heir , he wasn’t very intelligent, it is highly unlikely that he was ever in the position of having access or being told anything of actual importance!
reading between the lines , it seems to me that what information and videos where sold pertained only to his and his wife’s personal information and activities.

she wasn't always an "old lady"

Exactly! His behaviour had been going on for decades. She ruled with an iron fist. Supposedly.

Thedom · 03/08/2025 13:01

I wonder if it will ever come out what Andrew said behind Harry's back to make Harry punch him, shame that wasn't included.

CurlewKate · 03/08/2025 13:01

Just read the extract. Not sure if there’s much new there, to be honest. Except perhaps to people who bury their heads in the sand….

Since when have William and Catherine ever given a sit-down interview? They still haven’t done one to this day. So the idea that the palace is “threatening” or “blocking” interviews with them doesn’t even make sense — there aren’t any to block in the first place.

They did 'the good, the bad and the rugby' along with princess Anne, mike Tindal and James Haskell. It was jolly good fun, Anne knows her rugby.

Come on, that wasn’t a sit-down interview with a journalist asking questions. It was a podcast focused on rugby and other sports, with a bit of casual banter thrown in.

Absolutely but I was surprised at how unscripted it was.

I thought everyone seemed relaxed and casual, apart from Kate who seemed really forced and phoney.

did they not do an engagement one?

I’m going to say something that might get me jumped on , and could be seen as classest! , as normally I don’t say these things forgive me!

im not shocked about it @CoffeeCantata, this humour is typical of the stereotype of the braying upperclass male who went to an all boys public school!
I’ve heard it , I’ve seen it ! , normally when they reach andrews age they grow out of it! ( or reign it in!) , times have indeed changed but apparently for Andrew he has stayed emotionally in a time when he was the centre of these circles, everyone else has moved on , he apparently hasn’t!

Absolutely. This is how privileged men behave, not all of them of course, but many of them. They believe their money gives them license to do whatever they want without consequence and they see other people as objects. It isn't because Andrew is a member of the royal family, it's because he was born into privilege and has seen this sort of thing all his life in the rich people he associates with. Most get away with it because there aren't journalists interested in looking into their behaviour. Aristocrats, bankers, actors, musicians, businessmen, etc etc give people power and money and many behave very badly.

The unspoken rule is that you don't talk about it in public, don't let ordinary people know. That is why the author only got a ten percent response rate from 3000 people.

I wonder if it will ever come out what Andrew said behind Harry's back to make Harry punch him, shame that wasn't included.

According to the Mail article, some allegation about Meghan being 'an opportunist' who was too old for Harry?

But if we also believe the article, the odious Andrew would have thought of Sarah as 'staff' and beneath him; but he wanted to be married and she was extremely tolerant of his foibles ... so you'd think the Unused Spares Club would accept and share that bond (of finding wives who were prepared to put up with them), not fight over it.

And interestingly, Harry has very quickly denied fighting with Uncle Andrew over M.

But Harry himself says he physically fought with William over M's suitability.

It's very curious. I remember wondering when H&M buggered off to North America whether it was something to do with putting distance between themselves and Andrew's fall from grace that was happening at round about the same time. And I naively expected H&M to speak out about it!

It's all so, so unsavoury.

FenellaFeldman · 03/08/2025 09:46

Yes, that's what is so difficult to work out. Harry wanted to trash the RF and make money. Surely Andrew was a better bet than his SIL for not sharing lip balm, and other half baked accusations and proven lies?
The reasons will come out.

Meghan saw Kate as ‘the enemy’. What was Andrew? The father of their closest friends in the RF. You are seeing Harry’s book as a journalistic expose (?). It wasn’t. It was a revenge exercise.

I think the punch up was 2013, so before Harry met Meghan. The comments about Meghan was a separate event.

Another misstep from the Sussex's to deny the claims, all it has done now is add fuel to the rumours Meghan and Andrew were hanging out in the same circles long before she met Harry.

They do step up and deny the weirdest things!

On the contrary, I don't think it seems forced or phoney, it's clear she is shy and not comfortable with public speaking, but she still does it and has to try to manage her nerves and shyness, it takes a lot of guts and fortitude to do that.

I admire her more and more for having to overcome that in the face of everyone around her being so used to public speaking, cameras and microphones.

FenellaFeldman · 03/08/2025 14:15

I agree, @Thedom . I wouldn't slate a person for that. She's obviously shy and not a natural at this game, so credit to her for doing her best.

Well, Jeff, without wishing to be cruel, there's a bit of karma there for Meghan and Harry. Someone has written a book which is inaccurate and damaging to them?.🤔
Seriously, if they want to sue, fine, but they'd better be secure about what they claim is the truth.

But that’s the thing fenella , it wasn’t damaging to them!
if anything with andrews reputation as it is , Harry poping him one would only elevate many peoples opinion of him!
all that he’s achieved is making people ask more questions! Why ? And does the book contain anymore details about him and his wife!

Edited

I see what you mean.
My point is, that for 5 years H&M peddled stories which were hurtful, and many have been proven to be inaccurate and untrue. I'm just thinking - now they're on the receiving end!
Anyway. We shall see.

Another defender for Kate here.

I agree she’s shy and not comfortable with public speaking and I like her for that. I personally prefer it to super-slick word-salads or pushy self-promotion.

If I we’re as elegant as Kate (which I’m sadly not) that’s exactly how I’d be in that situation. I’ve suffered all my life from people mistaking my shyness for snobbishness, stand-offishness etc, so I’m keen to defend those of us who aren’t slick extroverts and are just trying our best!
