Oh, wow - that extract is shocking.
As someone who's never read Spare, except in bits on the net, and who wouldn't willingly line Harry's pocket by buying it, I've always suspected it would be awful. But actually, the bits I have read (the poor, bullied, disabled prep-school matron, the losing his virginity, and now this) are far, far worse than I could have predicted.
OMG. The self-centredness, utter lack of empathy and basic human kindness, the pushiness, the determination to get his own way (and make sure Meghan, the most important person, after all, in this scenario) got HER way at this tragic time for Charles and his siblings, is really horrible to witness.
If this were a version of the conversation written by Harry's worst enemy, it wouldn't surprise me. But it's meant to be in his own words, and he doesn't have a clue how he comes over, the ocean-going prat. He's viler than I thought.
I think James Moeran (is that the chappie? The ghost-writer) must have had a field day thinking...'Wow! Does he really want that to go in? And he's OK with it?'
