I've never started a thread here before, but I thought some people might be interested in this take on the story by a PR podcast I listened to yesterday (started listening to this podcast as I know very little about PR!).

It would be good to know if any of the resident PR people agree.

Small for her age! Not her size...dearie me...

PoppysAunt · 20/07/2025 10:04

Weepixie · 20/07/2025 09:44

@CoffeeCantata I was always taller than other girls my age and grew up being told ‘you’re a big girl and big girls like you don’t ……..’

Anyway, a few of my granddaughters take after me build wise and just recently my 8 year old asked me to go to her school and tell the teacher that just because she’s bigger than everyone in the class she’s still only little and some people in her class have to remember this. So I went because it was all too familiar and I knew just what she meant.

I think that's an excellent point.
People forget that William is only 2 years older than Harry.
Also, that Diana had two sons.

CoffeeCantata · 20/07/2025 10:08

Cynic17 · 20/07/2025 09:34

Yes, I remember Diana's engagement vividly. She was only 4 years older than me, and I don't think any of us thought of her as "too young".
But we did perhaps struggle to understand her marrying a man who was so much older 🤷‍♀️

Don't want to go over too much old ground here...but the reason for that was the still-current idea that Charles MUST marry a virgin. The poor chap had been told 'no' to at least 2 girlfriends he was really fond of because, shock horror, they had been found to have had a previous relationship (Davina Sheffield was one). And because his wife had to be a virgin, and had to be checked out as such, then clearly the only possibility was for him to marry a very young woman.

I think these factors definitely didn't bode well for that marriage. Times have definitely changed with the RF in this regard - thank goodness. I think, even by the time Andrew (sssssssss) married Fergie, things were much more realistic because Fergie had certainly had a life before Andrew.

He had a verybwell-known feud with Prince Philip, whom he believed was single-handedly preventi g him from getting a Nritish passport. Private Eye gave him the strapline "It's the fuggin' Duke of Edinburgh".
Not so funny after the Paris crash

Bad taste, I know, but I'd have paid good money to see those two go head-to-head.

I bet (and hope) that Prince Philip would have won hands down, though I cringe to think of some of the unsavoury insults that might have flown through the air!

Ellmau · 20/07/2025 11:35

Well, this is just ridiculous: Prince Harry ‘seriously worried’ Prince William will cut him off from UK

"Literally banned" from the country? Come on, no one is taking his citizenship away, and he and his children can visit any time. They just might not get all the bells and whistles Prince Entitled wants.

PoppysAunt · 20/07/2025 11:38

Harry has no idea how things work, does he?
Literally no idea.

NormaMajors1992coat · 20/07/2025 11:47

Well if that’s what he thinks, revealing his fears to the press is hardly likely to change William’s mind 🤦‍♀️

And IT’S ALL HIS OWN FAULT!

He’s just whinging and looking for sympathy with a load of bullshit as usual. My father cut me off. My brother is going to banish me. I was all alone when a courtier told me that the Queen Mother had died. Cameras frighten me. My mum was basically murdered. Nobody took me on bike rides. My bedroom in granny’s castle wasn’t big enough. And so on and so on and on and on and on 🥱

Ahh so we see where the pr is going now ! , we thought it was but now we have the proof!
and still Harry hasn’t learnt from last time has he ?
attack everyone but the current monarch… oh dear the Queen dies ( not sadly unsurprising as she was old and not in good health) , now Charles is king ( old and not in good health) he’s attacking William, who is going to be king !

LadyJaneGrey18 · 20/07/2025 11:54

‘Banned’ meaning he won’t be given the status and privileges he’s been used to. Stupid man. So greedy and entitled. I think he believes if he whines and stamps his feet the public will all be outraged at the unfair treatment ad he sees it. He’s become more and more of a joke as the months go on, yet he doesn’t see it.

Yes , it’s particularly odd considering the last article telling us he was happy in the US with his family and had no plans to return to the U.K. !

well which is it? 🤷‍♀️

He was asked recently at a NT Time magazine interview what he missed about the UK. He clearly struggled to come up with anything, said a lot about what he didn't miss and then said, "the Countryslde". Nobody's stopping you visiting the English Countryside, Haz! Your friend. Ellen, lives there now, you could visit her!

Utter nonsense.

No, @Serenster 's response was fair and correct. The historical proof that Diana wasn't regarded so well prior to her death. And you are the one who doesn't think it should be discussed.

What is utter nonsense is you posting this:

But friends close to the crown shall we say have been driving the “mad, sad and bad” narrative home quite recently. And I find that quite interesting that they still find it necessary.

Then refusing to provide evidence for your assertion, whilst demanding evidence of every other poster for theirs.

That’s exactly it!

He wants to be allowed back in to the privilege he used to have when he was Cheeky Chappie Harry, before he assassinated the character of his father, step-mother, brother and sister in law for money.

No chance, I hope.

He (and Meghan) are culturally illiterate people who neither know nor care about anything to do with history or the arts - or even ‘countryside’ unless it’s somewhere to hunt in.

No, they have no interest in the arts at all, and have really no idea about what a wealth of culture is in the UK.

That article is all about what Tom Bower 'believes'. The whole article is based on pure supposition.

I'd be taking it with a pinch of salt given it's what GB News has written and they always go for sensationalism and clickbait.

I remember when Charles was in his twenties and dating. The tabloids went after every girlfriend he openly dated (except one - Lady Jane Wellesley) with the vilest sexual smears they could think up. I believe this is why Camilla bolted - they would have crucified her if the suggestion of marriage had arisen.

Tom Bower has repeatedly asked the Sussexes to sue him if any of his claims are untrue.
Tumbleweed....

Tom Bower is an award winning author, former Newsnight journalist, former barrister, and someone who has successfully defended a defamation claim for one of his books. I think he is rather more trustworthy than most, to be telling the truth as he knows it from his research.

PoppysAunt · 20/07/2025 12:41

Yes, he's certainly more reliable researcher than Oprah Winfrey or anyone who writes for People magazine.

CoffeeCantata · 20/07/2025 12:46

Tom Bower is a very, very savvy journalist. He wouldn’t risk saying anything which laid him open to legal challenge. He will have the receipts, as Sussex supporters like to say.

But I’m sure he’d love the Sussexes to try and challenge him!

JSMill · 20/07/2025 12:47

I am sure I read that Camilla and Andrew Parker Bowles’ parents decided that the time had come and simply placed an engagement announcement in the Times. I only mention this to show just how different things were in those days, even if it’s in living memory for a lot of us.

Same with Anne and Mark Phillips. She was 23 and they thought she ought to be married
