I've never started a thread here before, but I thought some people might be interested in this take on the story by a PR podcast I listened to yesterday (started listening to this podcast as I know very little about PR!).

It would be good to know if any of the resident PR people agree.

As a manager I felt the same with over complicated reasons for staff being late! convoluted stories immediately raised my eyebrows as probable bollocks, those who just said over slept or sorry I am late I was ok with, its the wanting to fib and embellish that got my goat, as always utterly unbelievable twaddle! same with doing poorly voice when phoning in sick 😂the need to over explain is always a red flag to me.

I actually had a far fetched, but true (honest), excuse for being late this morning. I had to return home after setting off because my rear view mirror fell off! Had to go home to perform emergency surgery on it.

Why are the papers fixated with them returning as the only measure of the relationship with the family? There can be reconciliation without Harry coming back to live here. It's really strange.

It is odd that they can't see that there are different ways to conduct relationships, people don't have to be in the same country to have a close relationship with their families.

I think it's the best outcome tbh , they stay out of the way and Harry just appears at major events maybe.

I agree. Harry can come to the odd event, Meghan and the kids could too of course but I doubt that will happen, and he has a life away from the country his family dominate. He seems unable to cope with the hierarchy so probably best for everyone.

Plus, I hope they stay together and that would probably only be possible if he lives in the US.

HonoriaBulstrode · 18/07/2025 18:12

W & C swallow their disgust in public but have nothing whatsoever to say to H & M in private.

Probably because they thought (quite rightly, as it turned out) anything they said would appear in Scobie's next opus.

There were only the four of them in the car; William was driving. The information that nobody spoke can only have come from H and/or M, probably M.

BasiliskStare · 18/07/2025 18:13

@Battymaud - quick aside - I very much hope your Aunt is happy now.

Enough derailing from me 😊

Yes I agree, like the hair stylist that butchered my hair but spent ages telling me how modern it looked, how much it suited me , how amazing I looked, how it took years off me, when we both knew I looked like Dame Edna Everage !

Sorry I am now imagining fleabags sister 😬 it's the audacity to assume we are swallowing the bollocks because they think we are stupid when it's obvious they are lying their arses off.

Vespanest · 18/07/2025 18:17

The type of relationship going forward between Charles and Harry, will always be reported on because of what's happened and mainly the security case. With most of the headlines generated from Harry himself. After the cancer dash Harry did not only do an interview, he did one that included William,Catherine and their children. There was absolutely no need. A private relationship between Charles and Harry is an oxymoron.

Agree - various steps could be:

No more animosity - sword(s) down - thats all on PH (IMHO).

Able to calmly be in same space when required with no interaction - they did that at their uncles memorial last Aug, also PP funeral, Diana memorial, Jubilee, QE2 funeral, Coronation.

Wishing each other and their children happy birthday in private (this did happen with KC3 - not sure it still does as apparently he was pissed off that PH spoke about his private birthday call with A&L publicly).

Wishing each other and their children happy birthday in public - think milestone birthdays are marked for adults? Not sure about DCs?

PH meeting KC3 in private in UK.

PH meeting KC3 in private in UK with his DCs.

PH meeting PW and PC in private in UK.

PH meeting PW and PC in private in UK with his DCs.

PH seen interacting socially with KC3 in public in UK.

PH seen interacting socially with KC3 and his DCs in public in UK.

PH seen interacting socially with PW and PC in public in UK.

PH and his DCs seen interacting socially with all The Wales in public.

I dont think MM will let her DCs come to the UK (think there is some random royal rule about KC3 having some sort of agency over them?) - also would be a climb down for PH as its 'not safe'.

Suppose there is the option for KC3 to meet his DGC in US or neutral ground in Europe?

But this whole move back into the family house and family business is always nonsense and something no other family fued would consider.

Why is @NewAgeNewMe post silly? I would say it’s pretty much bang on.

She entered into it willingly. She knew him and his family. She was a young insecure girl who had no experience of the world or men. She was used as a brood mare . Her mother also married an older man at a very young age. It was not unusual at all in artisto circles , in fact very much the done thing. Marry a well bred gel to a rich older man so they’d be set up for life. That isn’t the same as an arranged marriage.

Serenster · 18/07/2025 18:26

It’s worth noting Diana’s older sister Jane got married just two months after her 20th birthday to a man 16 years older than her. He was already one of Queen Elizabeth’s private secretaries at the time. Diana was one of Jane’s bridesmaids, in fact. So meeting and marrying the older Charles was entirely within Diana’s expectations…there was a smaller age gap there than for her sister, in fact.

Profhilodisaster · 18/07/2025 18:26

Maybe not an arranged marriage, more orchestrated.

Battymaud · 18/07/2025 18:30

Such a 'mans world' - cant imagine my teenage daughters marrying some older bloke who no doubt continued to sow their wild oats throughout marriage but required a blue blood virgin to reproduce. Diana looked about 45 in her engagement photo they way she is dressed.

I have read (don't know how true it is) that the headlines that Sunday morning were due to be critical of her and had to be withdrawn in a hurry

Certainly this critical article by Carole Malone was published in the Sunday Mirror on the morning of 31 July 1997 - and swiftly pulled in later editions!

That was the style at the time. People thought she was very pretty and stylish. Times change.
Plus 19, nearly 20 was very much an adult then. Many people left school at 16. Only a small percentage went to university.
We infantilise young adults now.

Yes and her own mother married at 19.
"Just a teenager" is very much a modern phenomenon.

Correction - she was only 18.

BigWillyLittleTodger · 18/07/2025 19:34

@Battymaud I don’t think William will have any interest or desire for any of your points that involve him and his family at all, Harry and Meghan are not needed in his or his family’s life, he won’t entertain any publicly stunts that give them oxygen.

onehorserace · 18/07/2025 19:43

IcedPurple · 18/07/2025 15:18

I think the media coverage and the Sussexes' activity will ensure that they very much feature at some level in your average person's mind. I don't think it's just us here on the RF board.

I'm not sure I agree. They were huge news at the time of Mexit of course, and after the Oprah interview. But since then I think the level of general interest in them has faded quite a bit.

Taking myself as an example, I'm interested in the royals but there are periods when I take 'time out' and don't come on boards like this. At those times, I never hear about Harry and Meghan at all and have to play catch up when I come back here. So I think the 'average person' really doesn't hear much about them, and doesn't care either.

There is always something about them in the newspapers and online and not only the Daily Mail. That is why I said at some level.

BigWillyLittleTodger · 18/07/2025 19:48

I think the latest leak via the mail from Harry and Meghan’s camp that they are never coming back is just them getting in first because the so called secret meeting didn’t go their way, a bit like not being invited to the Bezos wedding, they were too busy to attend when really they didn’t get an invite at all.

IcedPurple · 18/07/2025 19:50

onehorserace · 18/07/2025 19:43

There is always something about them in the newspapers and online and not only the Daily Mail. That is why I said at some level.

But media is very diversified these days. To a large extent, you see what you want to see. It's not like 30 years ago when if something was 'in the newspapers' or 'on the news' you'd have little choice but to be exposed to it to some degree. Now, people get their news from social media where what they see is generated by algorithms and their own search history.

If you don't follow sites which deal with royal news/gossip, it's very very easy not to read anything about the Sussexes, or about any of the royals. If you want news about them, you have to seek it out. As I said above, when I take a break from royal gossip, I can go weeks barely hearing a single thing about the Sussexes.

That was my thoughts too - or they have had their wrists slapped for leaking - and its a petty retaliation.

Yes if they had managed to broker a deal that involved them getting security paid for and a the keys to the Buckingham Palace balcony when they ever felt like rocking up, the leak to the mail would read very differently.

I heartily agree - the second I saw “friends close to the Sussexes” saying this I thought ho hum, things didn’t pan out too well at the terrace meeting.

Obvs the Sussex camp requested the meeting, and intelligence suggests Meredith (such a baddie name!) was a surprise extra - whatever was proposed was given the bum’s rush.
