The royal family

Opinions may Vary . A genuine question about why Meghan and Harry seem to attract such differing views.

I post this more in hope than experience but I would be really interested in a proper discussion about those who are fans or supporters of them , those who aren't and indeed ( of which there are many ) , those who are indifferent.

So - I'll start. There was an interesting post on another thread which said M&H come over as David and Goliath , standing up against "the Institution" - my paraphrase.

No spitting , no fighting , mind the furniture 😂

Not the flower sprinkles again - have they not been debated enough? FFS 🤦‍♀️

They're Meghan's thing. Let her get on with it, if that makes her happy, it's harmless.

It's a metaphor for their shallowness and lack of substance. And the seeming inability of their fans to see beyond the sprinkles.

Well there's fandom, and then there's an orchestrated movement attacking (by word and by action) anyone or anything that isn't slavishly complimentary about their "god". From fan to cult. The Sussex Squad are in the latter category.

Ah. I’m obviously on the wrong (or perhaps the right?) SM platforms!

IcedPurple · 03/07/2025 09:02

LimeNotLemon · 03/07/2025 08:44

If an Oprah interview was the line for removing titles, Fergie should have lost hers long ago. Unless we want to invent special rules for certain people?
TBH I think Meghan would still be very successful without the titles which can’t be said for many in the Royal family, other than probably Charles. Despite some instances of bad judgement he does seem like someone who enjoys working and bringing ideas to life.

Edited

Even with global fame and a huge platform, she's now just a basic influencer peddling generic white labelled products on the internet. There are Instagals half her age doing it better.

So why do you think she'd have been such a success had she not achieved overnight global fame?

Mylovelygreendress · 03/07/2025 09:03

The Squad were posting horrible stuff about Catherine yesterday . Truly awful. No, I am not linking .

Maybe you have your eyes and ears closed to the accounts from people in fairly mainstream media.

Actually, I used it as a metaphor for the way everything she does is shot down-not just her real failings and wrongdoings. And as a potential explanation as to why the David and Goliath narrative might have more traction than it deserves.

I only have this, TicToc, fb and Instagram. So mainstream rather than “fairly mainstream” My FY page on TicToc is strongly anti M&H- featuring, among others, the entirely repellent Dan Wooton.

JustGotToKeepOnKeepingOn · 03/07/2025 09:13

I wish they’d just go away. Harry wanted out. So go! We don’t need his ‘tell all’ book. We don’t need his endless ‘woe is me’ interviews. He had it all and threw it away.

No, you used it as an example - that her using sprinkles led to criticism (unjustified in your view). I am using it as a metaphor - that she is a sprinkle.

I think if she - and her adoring fans - had said from the outset that all she wanted was to be a basic Instagram influencer, and was going to use her newfound global fame to make a ton of cash. then the 'flower sprinkles' would have been shrugged at. But when you set yourself up as someone who is going to 'modernise the royal family', who is too 'progressive' for the tired old 'institution' and is going to use your previously silenced 'voice' to make yourself heard on controversial global issues then yeah, hawking overpriced flower sprinkles on the internet is going to generate ridicule.

What else can they do. In the last week the King and Queen have been in Scotland visiting and highlighting great organisations that do a lot of good. William has been marking the 2 year anniversary of Homewards and talking about where they are and where they want to get to as a project. Catherine has been visiting a cancer support centre and sharing a little of her experience to highlight the importance of long term support for cancer survivors.

Meghan has launched a bottle of wine.

threesocksmorgan · 03/07/2025 09:17

there is a reason not anti H&M posters don't post. when they do they get rounded on by the usual suspects. you have to be a very strong person to keep putting yourself up for that. the RF topic has just become an echo chamber.
as soon as a thread about them fills up, one like this is started.
the RF topic should be renamed.

No one is “debating” the flowers sprinkles. Rather they are being used to illustrate the fact that the Sussexes offerings are mainly style over substance, and not necessarily good style at that 😆

This thread was an opportunity for people to say what they admire about the couple. The only people saying positive things are people like me who try to fair and balanced. Where are their whole hearted supporters?

There’s no reason Meghan should have to do anything. She’s a private citizen not a working Royal. Let her do whatever she wants but I wish she’d do it in private and stop trying to get attention and boast about how elevated everything she does is.

Quoting my own post because I meant to say, this contrast is why I believe Meghan would do better to srop the Royal connection. She is doing OK as a celebrity but comparisons to the royals don't work out well for her.

I've never used TikTok or Facebook and don't look at Instagram much, although we have a family account. I would class all of those as "fairly mainstream" along with Youtube and X. MSM to me is established print and TV based news media. If you are getting a feed of anti Sussex media, then that's your algorithm - you must be looking for it.

I recall on MN, even after the cancer diagnosis was disclosed, many pro Sussex supporters were demanding that Catherine reveal her type of cancer/treatment/show what she was going through in order to be relatable and believable. Now that she's talking about it, she's in the wrong again.

No disrespect to @BasiliskStarebut this type of thread has been done before and it never ends up answering any questions or adding anything meaningful to the topic.
all that happens is a rehash of tired arguments and defensive, sneery , passive aggressive comments from those who are “just” defending h and m because they are so put upon and victimised.

or ploppers who stumbled across this thread accidentally ( even though it’s in the rf topic ) who feel any criticism or comments about them should not be made.
and let’s not forget those who will see it as a great excuse to post sneering comments about C and W while pretending thats not what they are doing at all .

Absolutely disagree here. Whilst there are some well informed civilised posts and discussions here, there are also a lot more of cheap shots taken at Meghan both on a personal and professional level. As I said before totally disproportionate and likely to get her support from neutral parties

Just as the so called Sussex Squad lose Meghan and Harry any support they may have had from neutral parties when their very special kind of vileness becomes apparent.
