Wish I could go back and find all those posters who predicted a Kardashian-esqe social media blitz at some point in H&M's future, wonder where are all the posters who we're so affronted by the very idea of that.

People magazine and all, the uber celeb magazine.

I guess needs must with the downfall of her business efforts, \oh look, here are my kids whose privacy we have decided to forego for the greater good of taking the heat off what a crap business woman I am'.

Well they can’t talk about that anymore. I can’t see how that door is anything but firmly shut now.

Oh they will , Bunny , I am absolutely certain they will 😊

My knee jerk reaction was surely he refers to keeping Children away from the over use of social media, stopping them from using dangerous online chat groups, sharing their own dick pics etc.

And I just saw the flaw in my own thinking.

In turn this means not just keeping your children out of your own use of social media, but stepping back from it yourself, not sharing private videos, pictures etc. of yourself, let alone your children. In order to model that behavior you would like your children to adopt to keep them safe.

It was also one of their reasons for leaving the UK wasn't it? Because if they stayed in the UK their children's privacy would be invaded by their photos appearing in the media.

According to Meghan , Archie wouldn’t be able to attend school in the U.K. as there would be 50 photographers waiting every morning !
Apart from the official first day of term photos , when have the Wales children been papped going to school ?

I have never used SM ( other than MN). My two young adult kids have minimal SM interaction, which I’m sure must be partially to do with it not being a feature of home life. One has a minimal Instagram and LinkedIn (mainly consisting of professional work photos) and one very reluctantly succumbed to using Snapchat because they feel they have no choice if they want to communicate with friends. Maybe it’s because they’re boys, I don’t know 🤷‍♀️

No one is outraged at the photos but people are commenting on the hypocrisy of two people whose tagline is about bullying and the evils of social media and the necessary protection of children from it and there they are.

Any celeb that makes their name off of correcting other people's moral failings and preaching on 'how to make the world a better place' is incredibly vulnerable to being called out for hypocrisy, quite rightly so. The UK (and certainly the US!) are centuries past adhering to the feudalist notion that we should listen to the pontificating of two people just because they're Royal (Harry) or married Royal (Meghan).

Meghan and Harry are especially vulnerable to this because they made their initial fame/infamy with lengthy criticisms of the RF's alleged hypocrisy, cruelty and racism. They also made a lot of money from 'calling out' the evils of both legacy and social media, so it's difficult to ignore the fact that they both make plenty of use of both legacy and social media when THEY have something they want to sell.

All of this is further complicated by the fact that neither of them have any particular discernible talent. If Harry were an ace striker, or Meghan a brilliant film maker, their disingenuities could be excused to an extent by us the viewing public. But they're not, so we don't.

Hypocrisy is the DEATH of holier-than-thou celebs. Their reputation cannot survive it. In terms of hypocrisy, H&M denouncing social media as harmful would be right up there with a film about the evils of war produced by Josef Goebbels.

I’m genuinely curious as to what they think privacy for their kids means.

Do they think is just means the small circle around the eyes, nose and mouth disguised/blanked out? Is that what they think it means?

Because I know that Archie has lost a tooth and was in his mothers room at 2am to tell her, I know that he seems to get multiple colds that Meg has had to attend to, I know what Archie and Lili have for breakfast, I know what’s in their freezer right now and what she feeds them in the evening (tater tots and chicken nuggets- Which seems at odds with her whole organic veg crap). I know their mum dropped it low before she gave birth to Lili, I know Lili had an Ariel cake for her 4th birthday, I know what Lili calls Serena and Megs make up artist Daniel.

How could I possibly know all this information about a 6yr old and a 4 yr old? …..I know this because information has been supplied to various forms of media by Meghan herself. They have very strange interpretations of privacy and safety for their kids.

My2cents1975 · 13/06/2025 15:29

I do not think H&M quite grasp the Pandora's box they've opened up.

A&L are California residents protected by California child labor laws which were updated in September 2024 to include social media...because this is what this boils down to...exploiting children to generate income.

AB1880 mandates that 15% of gross kid influencer earnings are kept in trust and turned over to kids at 18 and SB 746 details financial and legal mandates including giving kids the right to sue parents. Combined, these new laws protect children from financial abuse.

Given that H&M can't file trademarks and other paperwork correctly and on time, it will be interesting to see if they can live up to the new child labor mandates.

Royal children are never papped going to school. Another lie.

I totally agree with you. There is a very serious issue about A&L's privacy.

The first batch of social media kids are now in their twenties and have spoken out about their loss of privacy.

Per the article:
One former content kid says she had “a constant feeling of being on” from the age of 8. Now 30, she spoke to TODAY.com on the condition of anonymity. She is the daughter of a blogger who posted daily stories with pictures about her and her siblings.

Yet another classic example, @Mylovelygreendress, of Meghan weaponising absolutely anything she could think of in the drive to get back to LA?

Even when those things don't make sense, since royal kids haven't been papped for years

More front than Blackpool as my Granny would have said. ( There are often some brilliant Granny quotations on here - I keep an eye out for them. )

Re your sons and SM. My DS has Linked in, a never used old FB account and Instagram for photos etc. He is really careful about what he puts on anything because of his job ( which is one where embarrassing photos / videos would be embarrassing and he does not earn his crust from likes or followers.) As a family we have never put family photos on any of these things. To be fair at A&L's age I don't think anyone did when he was that age but I do agree if you live in a family where your parent/s is/are constantly putting things on SM it must filter through. I know a lot of people do but by and large their family snaps etc are not being seen by huge numbers of people.

& @AtIusvue - I agree - however redacted there is more information out there than anyone needs to know about young children.

@My2cents1975 - Thank you for those posts about US laws and children of influencers - very interesting.

AtIusvue · 13/06/2025 19:46

Well that makes sense! We knew they couldn’t possibly afford all that staff!!!

They’ve let go of 4 staff!!!

From Hello! Article

https://www.hellomagazine.com/royalty/838005/prince-harry-and-meghan-markle-shake-up-four-staff-members-depart-team-sussex/?viewas=amp

‘LA-based deputy press secretary Kyle Boulia and Charlie Gipson, their UK press officer, have departed, while at least two other members of the Sussex’s private team have also left in recent weeks, according to a source.’

  • so they lasted 12 months!

‘Eyebrows have been raised over recent media moments for the couple, including the interview Prince Harry gave to the BBC in the wake of his High Court security defeat last month and Meghan’s decision to share a video of her and Harry twerking in the maternity suite ahead of Princess Lilibet’s birth.
“Something tells me there will be another change in the future,” says a source familiar with the couple’s approach.
“Meghan and Harry have hired some of the most incredible people at the top of their fields, yet somehow none of them ever work out.”

It's a bit like the proud little old lady at the parade: "It ain't my Johnny that's out of step, it's the whole durn US army."

Never Harry or Meghan's fault, is it.

AtIusvue · 13/06/2025 20:07

Ha! Just seen they have regained a team from method communications- they specialise in ‘challenger brands’

Challenge to what? A challenger brand to the RF? 😂

Noseyoldcow · 13/06/2025 20:24

From Hello. - “In a statement, Meredith Maines said: “As the Duke and Duchess's business and philanthropic interests grow, I have made the strategic decision to move toward a more traditional communications structure of specialist agency support, as previously reported in Forbes and PR Week several weeks ago. “Transitioning from a team of two to an agency support staff of eight, operating across five different time zones, will give international media and stakeholders better access, and critically, faster response times to inquiries."
Just as a matter of interest, do the PR people for the real Royals “operate across different time zones”? And whether they do or not, what makes this pair of twonks so so important they need to?

OctopusFriend · 13/06/2025 20:27

8 people across 5 different time zones?
Talk about having an inflated sense of themselves! 😂
