More and more these manic threads are popping up on mumsnet, wild posts and theories and then hundreds of posts brimming with excitement about catching them out or exposing them. It’s like a game or a hunt. Have many of you crossed the line from interested to addicted?

Apparently. I said it was a complicated narrative. Which it was. The PR was shocking. As a family it must have been incredibly difficult. But the way it was managed by the supposedly skilled professionals whose job it was to manage it for them was unforgivable.

How does that amount to a "complicated" narrative?

The problem is though when people who are pro H and M don't bring up anything relevant or factual. It's the whiny " why do you care" , the " does she need your permission to do this ", the " what effect does she have on your life" blah blah. It's lazy and infantile. Now if those posters were to post something factual then that is a different story. At least there would be something to debate.

Exactly this.

CoffeeCantata · 14/05/2025 16:05

Why can't people ask why others care so much? Maybe they want to understand?

Spectre - I've lost count of the number of times I've typed a clear explanation for 'why I care'. And I've found that the person who asked that question never responds to any of the points, despite having initiated the question, which I was stupid enough to believe they actually wanted a serious answer to.

If you still don't understand why people 'care', there will be loads of threads where people have given their answers. This thread alone has lots of answers to this point. My conclusion is that it's not a bona fide question - it's just a jibe.

But the question keeps on coming back like a bad smell!

CoffeeCantata · 14/05/2025 16:10

I like the frocks, jewellery and the entertainment (oh and the fly pasts ) I will admit that 😊💍👗🎀👑✈🛩

And don't forget all the pretty horses! 😀I'm looking forward to Trooping the Colour.

I don't want to go and read shit like that thanks.
that is on another site so not relevant. nice of you to repeat it all.

I'm sorry to have exposed you to that stuff - it's not pleasant, and that's the repeatable bits!

My point is that by no stretch of the imagination is anyone on this thread 'ripping Meghan and Harry to pieces'. That's ridiculously hyperbolic when referring to criticism and scepticism supported by evidence.

Samcro · 14/05/2025 16:14

I do wonder why the op started this thread. they have not engaged with it. just asked a couple of questions.

Forgive me if I don’t want to go into it again. You have my absolute permission to search/advance search/ whatever.

Nah, I can't imagine you said anything that would ring true. Anyway, I followed the story and there was nothing complicated about it.

Woman has operation in January. Tells the world she won't be back to public life until after Easter.

Woman's cancer is discovered on 27 February.

Woman holds onto this information until her kids are on school holidays and can be told. School holidays start on 22 March. Woman tells the world on 22 March.

There's nothing complicated about that.

H&M rabid supporters going insane between January and even after the cancer diagnosis is revealed, losing their shit over a photo, creating a load of conspiracy theories about DV, affairs, plastic surgery and death....that's not complicated, that's just the Sussex Squad for you - evil people. US press picking up on these conspiracy theories and the UK press in turn picking up these stories: not complicated, just par for the course, if SM is talking about something, they will print it to sell papers.

I do remember your self flagellation thread.

Off topic but you just reminded me of a story from a musical friend who was once a trumpeter in the Grenadier Guards. They had to march along on grass, wearing their incredibly expensive uniforms but there had been heavy rain the previous night. Someone in the front row slipped and fell, and all the following soldiers (concentrating on their music) went over like dominoes and scrambled out in the mud.

The officer in charge was mortified but the Queen sent them a reassuring message later that day saying just how VERY MUCH she had enjoyed the whole spectacle.

You can see how posts are misunderstood then. Personally I didn't see an issue as there were statements as and when things were known and appropriate. Many people chose that time to come up with ridiculous and frankly unsavoury theories. As some else said past times but not forgotten.

Funny how the comments on those insisting on calling someone a pro, fan, supporter gets ignored. At what point are those posters going to stop calling people that if the person says they aren't.

Those posters don't like being called haters etc yet happy to label other people incorrectly and when corrected ignore it and carry on doing it.

BasiliskStare · 14/05/2025 17:10

@CurlewKate these men and women are better riders than I - for you . I met a woman who rides for the RF and she was great - explained about the hooves etc with the initials on them. I was a pony club rider over low jumps back in the day - I couldn't do what these people or indeed Princess Anne do with big horses. 😂

Yes I remember the thread you started because you felt guilty at joining in the pile on Catherine and then basically told posters and yourself not to feel guilty because the media had manipulated everyone.

Do tell why it was unforgivable? It was pretty straightforward to most of us.

CurlewKate · 14/05/2025 15:22

The William/Easter/Church thing was ridiculous-and IMHO a way of distracting from Andrew’s presence. The suit at the funeral-I still think that was a bit of crap PR by Kensington Palace, but I know other people feel differently. Which is fine!

Not wishing to go down the funeral suit road again, but why would it be “crap PR” when the Vatican had specified “dark suit”, other men were wearing navy and some were wearing dark grey? He was totally compliant with the dress code. He didn’t need to wear black however you try and spin it to your own ideas. It’s not what other people feel about, it’s another fact! Maybe that is why you had trouble with what you call the “complicated narrative” around Catherine’s cancer. It’s not complicated, it just doesn’t fit with your world view 🤷‍♀️😆

That only applies here if you think that there are two completely opposing sides and absolutely no crossover. That you have to be entirely pro H&M or entirely pro W&C. Which is the entirely bonkers position many on here seem to take.
