Do you think some of you are addicted to hating Harry and Meghan?

More and more these manic threads are popping up on mumsnet, wild posts and theories and then hundreds of posts brimming with excitement about catching them out or exposing them. It’s like a game or a hunt. Have many of you crossed the line from interested to addicted?

Just briefly - I think on MN it does seem that a huge number of H & M supporters have disappeared and therefore you might think things are now rather unbalanced. But I would argue that that in itself tells us something - I think more and more people are finding them hard to defend.
I think you will find most just gave up , I have seen the pile ons.

@Samcro the piling on also came from the pro camp. Why are you wilfully ignoring that fact, because let’s be honest we’ve all seen it on previous threads just as we have seen it here on this thread? Or does it not count because it doesn’t fit with your opinion as an alleged non fan? Your stance is a bit confusing you see

No a huge amount of them literally disappeared overnight when Catherine announced her cancer diagnosis, after those Mother’s Day and where’s Catherine threads.

Were you here last January-March? The pro H&M camp very much outgunned their detractors in sheer numbers. Perhaps, though, not in having anything decent or logical to say, and so their posts were easily countered.

BasiliskStare · 14/05/2025 13:01

@CurlewKate - Oh banged to rights - I think I did once comment that I personally thought a few inches lopped off might suit Catherine more a few not short hair ) But that's a personal opinion. In my defence I did say she probably needs long hair for up dos with a tiara etc. or a formal hat. & I like a tiara.

I think some things H&M have done have been pretty poor actually , but I have said before tbf Meghan is trying to earn them money in the best way she knows how. Whether that is the best way - how do I know. No Californian billionaire manque me. As well as posh frocks I'm OK with a crudite board made to look pretty. The fact we've all been doing it for donkeys' years - I don't mind. New generations and all that. It was easy on the eye - especially that lovely train along the coast. I just agreed with Richard Osman and Marina Hyde - it was a bit boring & was it worth part of the staggering NF amount ( whichever numbers you believe ) Probably not but I don't really care. Time and quality will out.

I have also criticised the RF - particularly IHT I think needs scrutiny between Monarchs. This seems something which would be easy to investigate and seems inherently unfair. I do think W&K are pushing it a bit about the amount of time they are having off. I get they want to bring their children up in a more normal environment & that I think , given their situation , is good & she has been unwell , luckily seems OK now. But when the children start going to "big school" which I don't think I am pushing the boat out to say will probably be boarding - then yes - they will get half terms , exeats , holidays so much more time than one might think - may even be every Sunday - but they will be able to plan better for days when they know the children are at school.

So I'll say again , my post should be read in the context of , being of a conservative (with a small c) person , I am in favour of a constitutional monarchy , until I see a better idea. I don't hate H&M although I am a bit dismayed at some of Harry's behaviour and I do not worship W&K.

I like the frocks, jewellery and the entertainment (oh and the fly pasts ) I will admit that 😊💍👗🎀👑✈🛩

You can't write a comment about them on here u less its criticisng them because if you dare too your automatically a fan and supporter. It doesn't matter how many times you say your aren't and your reasons why you will still be called it. As so clearly demonstrated on this thread numerous time. Those same people then whine when they are called haters and say they aren't and how dare you and you must accept and stop calling me a hater...thats the double standards of some posters this board.

So not surprised alot of people don't bother anymore. Because for all the comments saying different opinions are welcome and it's a discussion blah blah it isn't really. Like the pile on H&M you then become the person to be piled on because you dare to say something different.

The problem is though when people who are pro H and M don't bring up anything relevant or factual. It's the whiny " why do you care" , the " does she need your permission to do this ", the " what effect does she have on your life" blah blah. It's lazy and infantile. Now if those posters were to post something factual then that is a different story. At least there would be something to debate.

So someone assigned why do you care.means they are epoxy? How do you decide someone is pro ...Just because they don't post a negative comment about them?

Why can't people ask why others care so much? Maybe they want to understand?

What is classed as relevant and factual? Who decides? When so much of the comments are speculation why are those posters held to a different standard and need to present facts?

RandyRedHumpback · 14/05/2025 14:14

Epoxy? Is that a variation of the MN classic, "Are you on glue?".

No, because they post an impassioned defense of them - but not by using a reasoned argument or an interesting alternative point of view, but by hurling insults like hypocrite, racist, hater etc. Neutral commentators don't tend to go down the avenue of deploying invective.

foreverblowingbubbless · 14/05/2025 14:17

@spectrepeople ask why others care because they want to find out.

Give me a break - that is nonsense.

They do ask this frequently. And they are answered - time and time again, given reasons why people care. The same posters then ask the same question yet again when the answer is the same, yet again. It's a disingenuous question, designed to shame and shut down discussion.

RandyRedHumpback · 14/05/2025 14:24

Well, usually it's clear when people are giving an opinion or when they are saying something backed up with evidence. If you want evidence, ask for it.

I’m not “pro” them. But I have occasionally said something not entirely negative. Which means I am a H&M fan. I also occasionally said something negative about William and Catherine. Which also means I must be a H&M fan. That’s the particularly weird extrapolation, IMO.

Tbf, there have been a couple of threads recently when facts have been presented (William going to church at Easter and the colour of his suit at the Pope’s funeral) and they were completely ignored 🙄😆😆

Yes, and this is one illustration of the disingenuous nature of many of the "pile on" complaints. Multiple posters answering a question and providing evidence, the replies being ignored because they contain the inconvenient truth, and then the questioner claiming they are being victimised. And those answering the questions being accused of being obsessed forelock tuggers, for why else would they have the answers?

CurlewKate · 14/05/2025 15:22

The William/Easter/Church thing was ridiculous-and IMHO a way of distracting from Andrew’s presence. The suit at the funeral-I still think that was a bit of crap PR by Kensington Palace, but I know other people feel differently. Which is fine!

Were you the poster who said something questionable about Catherine's cancer? Apologies if not you.

BasiliskStare · 14/05/2025 15:24

I'll go with the point that H&M ain't all that and open themselves up to criticism. ( & I've done it) That said I think W&K are not above criticism - and I've criticised both. If I had to choose I'd probably with a pistol to my head choose W&K , but then I do not condone violence - so I very much hope the pistol does not appear 😂

Apparently. I said it was a complicated narrative. Which it was. The PR was shocking. As a family it must have been incredibly difficult. But the way it was managed by the supposedly skilled professionals whose job it was to manage it for them was unforgivable.
