Do you think some of you are addicted to hating Harry and Meghan?

More and more these manic threads are popping up on mumsnet, wild posts and theories and then hundreds of posts brimming with excitement about catching them out or exposing them. It’s like a game or a hunt. Have many of you crossed the line from interested to addicted?

Katie price for instance does not have pretty much a whole topic full of 100s of threads bashing every thing she does.

Do you see yourself as a slayer of dragons in that case, @Samcro ?

RandyRedHumpback · 13/05/2025 19:54

Reallyhowisthatthecase333 · 13/05/2025 19:37

I don’t think they have done enough wrong to warrant the level of criticism they are receiving either so I agree with Samcro.

While everyone is entitled to their opinion, hopefully you can understand RandyRedHumpback that it can feel very uncomfortable if you are posting a minority pov and then ten or twelve posters quote you and tell you you are wrong, one by one. Many of them repeating the same, or similar things. It gets a bit full on!

And when this happens, posters can get defensive.

I admit to using fairly emphatic terms early on in this thread.

(They were directed collectively though not to an individual poster.)

At the risk of sounding too Miss Jean Brodie, I think there is fault on both sides.

Maybe we need a “safe” word when things get out of hand?

Preferably nothing todger-related please 😬

Nobody is entitled to "comfort' on a discussion forum. Provided people are posting within the talk guidelines laid down by MN, you have no reason to complain. Having a minority view is uncomfortable. That's life. The trick is persuading others to your point of view with some good arguments, not shouting foul and directing abuse when more people disagree with you than you anticipated.*

*When I say "you" I don't mean you particularly, I mean anyone who thinks thinks they need to apply egalitarian rules to a discussion forum.

LaMarschallin · 13/05/2025 19:55

Bit of an aside, but is anybody willing to admit to being a fan of H&M?
It seems that so many people trip over the RF threads by accident and go on to say that they're not H&M fans, but...
And usually continue with: "But whhhhhy are you interested?".
None of these poor lost souls, who were actually trying to click on a thread about a workman using somebody's toilet or something ever say "Actually, Harry really is very, very handsome as Meghan said, and I'm impressed by the idea of using pot pourri as garnish for scrambled eggs now that I've found this hitherto unknown part of MN!".
Apparently people posting here have empty lives and let the Sussexes live in their heads rent-free etc etc and even they, and their motives for posting, are more interesting than Harry and Meghan.

RandyRedHumpback · 13/05/2025 19:23

I think you are crediting them with too much intelligence to be doing a controlled science experiment. It's pretty clear that they thought they were attacking someone who usually defends the RF. They fucked up and should just apologise instead of making lame excuses.

Ah another one who decides to dismiss what I said and believe it's really something else that I was thinking...😆

Saying you made a mistake is doing you a favour. Because the alternative is that you attacked an already distressed @BustingBaoBun in order to make some lame point. You should be ashamed of yourself continuing digging this hole.

Spectre8 · 13/05/2025 20:01

Oh look the comments of go take a break or walk outside, your a H&m supporter or your vile or you this and that come out...perfectly okay for those saying if but when they are called name or labelled something it's not okay. Back to that hypcrocrisy on display

I mean how many of you were justifying why your on here, your not a hater, the number is posts don't mean your addicted...yet it's okay to tell me to take a walk 🤣🤣 the double standards

theraininspainisapain · 13/05/2025 20:02

I think the problem with the 'defence' of H&M is that it rarely goes beyond 'you're a hater, you are addicted (a new one) and you are bullies' so its attack rather than defence. No real dialogue. Then of course there are the one or two who totally blow up the richter scale in terms of what they believe is a 'defence' of Meghan and Harry.

It's reminding me of another cockup incident on here not so long ago where a poster said that someone had name changed during a post and so they replied to the wrong person. 😂

We'll often it's not because they support H and M but because they just HATE the criticism that is aimed at them 🙄

Samcro · 13/05/2025 20:07

BigWillyLittleTodger · 13/05/2025 19:43

@Samcro if you don’t like being called a fan/stan/ Sussex squad imagine what it’s like for us regular posters, who amongst many other things are often called racists, bigots, unhinged, obsessed, prejudiced. I can’t think of any regular poster who have called you any equivalent names like that at all, I don’t think being called a fan or stan is in anyway the same as being called a racist bigot.

I have not used any of those names. I do use hater ( although tend to say pro or not pro now)

Yes, please don't use "hater". It's used so frequently on here if you criticise H&M. It's not accurate, it's not fair and it's a wild exaggeration.

Guess so. But it's odd.
If I've accidentally clicked on a thread about somebody's "narc MIL" for example I immediately leave and go to the thread I was interested in.
I wouldn't stick around to read posts and complain that people seemed not to like their MIL and tell them to post differently.

Munnygirl · 13/05/2025 20:23

Samcro · 13/05/2025 20:07

You may not have used those words but as you admit you have used the term hater without any factual evidence the people you are calling a hater are actually haters.

It is actually ok to be pro Meghan and Harry and to admit it but I think you have ignored all the name calling that the pro h and m people have called the non pro posters. It makes your argument totally one sided as I would have thought you would have addressed both sides of the argument.

I am going to nick you pro and non pro description as it’s far better than using the word fan or non fan

jeffgoldblum · 13/05/2025 20:25

People are more than welcome to defend H and M , just as others are allowed to criticise behaviour they don’t like , however nobody should have to stoop to name calling and abuse to get their point across,

if your main defence involves attacking others then you aren’t lifting them up , you are pulling others down .
And it’s not enough to complain that you get called things so it doesn’t matter!

I don’t use those terms towards h and m friendly posters but it doesn’t stop them from following me around and hurling abuse at me!

and please don’t complain about being lumped into a group when you are doing the same to others!
we are all individuals , although critical of the couple ( well more Harry in my case!) , I don’t always agree with comments made about them .

Absolutely, if someone came on and gave a reasonable argument in defence of Harry exposing the young woman who he lost his virginity to, or they can give a decent explanation for him denying the racist accusation and blaming the press then fair enough.

but how many of you jumped in to correct nasty comments from your own side of the argument?

myrtleWilson · 13/05/2025 20:58

The thing is @Spectre8 your defence of your attack, dressed up as an illustration of the supposed hyporcrisy of others, doesn't ring true at all. If that was your intetion doubtful you could have framed it differently. To your detriment, your actions will live longer in thread memory because of your implausible defence than if you'd held your hands up and acknowledged you messed up. Similar to the sock puppeting poster also on these threads...

Exactly this.

Defend them by explaining why their actions are reasonable, not by attacking people who criticise them - which is a tacit admission you can't justify their behaviour.

You go round accusing me of being vile and abusive and other words, so attacking me because you decided to think about comment i wrote meant something it didn't. Your own filter. Don't come at me about not lifting others up and attacking when you do that about me yourself. Telling other people not to engage with me because I am xyz and so on.

Oh Spectre your comment was vile and abusive. I actually feel sorry for you now as you simply can’t respond to other posters without being rude or aggressive. Most people with any decency would have read your comment to Bau and be appalledat its tone. Aren’t you tired of being on the attack all the time?

The more you attack me for no reason,
the more ridiculous you look ,
the more you read things into my reasonable posts ,
the more you look unreasonable!

stop stalking me it’s beyond a joke !!!
if I have something to say about you or to you I will tag you or name you!

while you seem fixated on me , I give you barely a thought,

Lol I'm not stalking you, you made a comment on this thread saying I'm abusive I happened to see it since I was perusing this thread.

See how you attack me again calling me a stalker.

Im attacking you? So are you saying you don't go posting about me saying I vile and abusive?

As for fixated, your the one who has been loudly commenting how your ignoring my posts but then always end up referring to me or my comments.....so who is fixated on whom? If your ignoring me why do you continue to refer to me or my comments?

jeffgoldblum · 13/05/2025 22:43

I haven’t reported and I ask that no one else does too!
I want these posts to stand , so that people can see the relentless attacks that critical posters face from h and m supporters!!
