The royal family

Why is Sarah Ferguson at the Easter service?

I am really perplexed about why SF attends all Royal events since the death of the Queen when Andrew
is present. She behaves like his wife but she isn’t his wife. What on earth is going on? I cannot think of another situation like this where an ex wife lives with her ex husband and attends all public events with him as though they are still married. It’s bizarre.

The King wasn’t at the Abbey. He was at a private family service in Windsor. What are you ranting about?

Edited

Someone else upthread mentioned the Abbey...so I thought they were at the Abbey. My mistake re. the location - but the point that he should have been at the main Easter service with the rest of the RF stands!

The only frothing I like is on my cappuccino!

I think this is one of the most bizarre RF threads I have ever read!

I know, I must admit i’m starting to feel the same. You know its going to shit when we agree on something @CurlewKate We’re starting to look almost normal 🤣🤭

No, it doesn't because it wasn't an official royal event.

The photographers go because they like getting cheerful Easter shots to help sell the papers.

When King Charles was PoW he also didn't go to the Easter Sunday service with the late Queen but when to Scotland and went to church there.

It was a private service. Not a state occasion. Not compulsory to attend. But we’ve done all this if you bother to read the thread 😊

Church and Crown are inextricably intertwined, going back more than a thousand years. That's our culture. Remember the strongly religious nature of the Coronation?

Culture can change. The world is increasingly secular. Is it necessary any longer to have them intertwined? You could still have the religious element included but with the monarch no longer titular head of the church?

ThisFluentBiscuit · 22/04/2025 16:32

PrettyFlyforaMaiTai · 22/04/2025 16:16

You do know the Easter service attended by the King wasn’t at Westminster Abbey, don’t you? It was at St George’s Chapel at Windsor Castle 🫣🤣 Oh dear, what a mistake to make.

But don’t let facts get in the way of your pile on/shitting on William. Your bias is showing!

Argh, there are photos of the RF attending what looks like a very Abbey-esque building - shots of huge stone doorway etc - and someone mentioned the Abbey, so I got confused. I didn't read the article - just glanced at the photos. The point still stands regardless of whether it's this enormous church or that enormous church.

Maybe that should be a lesson. Read the article and think before you post? 🤷🏼‍♀️

Fair enough.
I find it tedious but I'm not at my best today, some virus or other (not RSV or Influenza A afaik, just a boring old bug).

Honestly, I don't know. I don't know my history enough to know if the Crown and Church could be separated. I feel that it could be incredibly complicated. And the way it is now, is part of our history, no?

But no, your point doesn't stand.

It wasn't an official event so no one was required to be there.

Charles didn't used to go with his mother was on the throne either so there's precedent.

I think you not reading the articles, and not reading the thread might be contributing to the problem.

The issue is very simple, really. William ducking out of the Abbey service on Easter Sunday is giving strong cake-and-eat-it vibes.

He has a life of extraordinary privilege. It's really not asking much for him to play the game on key dates. If he doesn't want to, he can decline his position. But I don't see him giving back his beautifully-appointed wing of Kensington Palace and his gorgeous country mansion.

And I've just remembered how deeply religious the Coronation service was. How's that going to work, with everyone pretty much knowing that he's Defender of the Disbelief?!

That's a bit of a stretch!!! It gives no vibes of the sort.

Is it the chapel in the grounds of the castle that is enormous, or is it actually the enormous castle that you can see? 😂😂😂

What difference does the location make? The point doesn't change just because the service took place in a different church.

Surely the "main" easter service would be the one with the Archbishop of Canterbury??

Was he at Windsor?

A statement for our time from @ThisFluentBiscuit " I didn't read the article"

Out of interest, as you're bizarrely holding fast to this line, when did the three line whip on attendance at the family service not held in an Abbey come into force?

We don't have one anymore, or for now. He resigned

You are correct the point doesn't change. William does not need to be at the private family Easter service with his Dad. It wasn't an official royal duty.

Well indeed? What does location matter? Hence why William went to worship privately at his local church. Glad we agree 😊

The press are just mad that they didn't get cute Wales kids photos that they could use to sell their papers.

If they cared about the heir not being at Windsor on Easter Sunday they would have mentioned it the 18 years where Charles didn't go either.
