The royal family

Why is Sarah Ferguson at the Easter service?

I am really perplexed about why SF attends all Royal events since the death of the Queen when Andrew
is present. She behaves like his wife but she isn’t his wife. What on earth is going on? I cannot think of another situation like this where an ex wife lives with her ex husband and attends all public events with him as though they are still married. It’s bizarre.

We don't currently have an Archbishop of Canterbury but, if we did, they would be at....Canterbury.
The Dean of St George's Chapel Windsor leads the service at...... Windsor.
😉

I was wondering what the Archbishop of Canterbury had to do with the price of fish...

You have absolutely no evidence for your insistence in describing the Prince of Wales as an atheist!!! That's a load of nonsense.

WILLIAM ATTENDED AN EASTER SERVICE, just not the one you think he should have!! Are you really not reading any of the posts at all? What "cakes and balloons"? I think you need smelling salts!

Actually I think one of the biggest issues with society today @ThisFluentBiscuit is people who can't comprehend basic facts and spread unfounded outrage, gossip and speculation.

And yes before anyone asks I do include people who spread ridiculous speculation about H&M in the likes of fake kids etc.

Now if William was showing his bare bum in public whilst yelling the C word then you might have a scandal. Him practising his faith at one church rather than another is not.

Cynic17 · 22/04/2025 16:55

None of the Royal Family went to "the Abbey" on Easter Sunday.
Arguments tend to be more persuasive if they are based on accurate facts......

People were rabbiting on about the Abbey so I assumed it was there. The fact that the location of the service was about 20 miles west makes no difference whatsoever to my point.

I honestly do need smelling salts when I read about some of the on-the-floor standards on here that some people have!!!!!

PW is not a regular church-goer and the smoke of his disbelief has curled under the Palace doors and been released into the ether. He absolutely cannot come out and say it, so people like Hardman - whose sources are impeccable - say it for him. Of course the man's an atheist! If he had any decency, he'd hand back the cakes and balloons! (All his houses, wealth and privilege!)

That's a heck of a jump to say your either a church goer or atheist.

I'd be deeply offended if someone called me an atheist based on my annual church attendance.

CodandChipz · 22/04/2025 17:05

Who knows how often PW goes to church @ThisFluentBiscuit has someone got a tracker on him? I don’t know how often he gets his hair cut but I’m sure he does, or how often he goes shopping or picks up the kids from school or goes out for a meal. I never see pics of him coming out of restaurants but I’m sure he goes to them.

The real question is did Harry go to church on Sunday and did he do it better than William?

Absolute tosh. Hardman didn't say William was an atheist either. Your 'facts' are all over the place.

Actually, he's shown his bare bum AND his dick in public before. He was photographed peeing against the wall somewhere when he was in his early twenties, letting it all hang out...literally.

Ther next head of the church should have been at the Easter Sunday service with his dad, the current head of the church. The fact that he wasn't and the fact that many are OK with that is one more lower standard than we had before. If W's going to be like this, we won't have a RF or a culture or any history or traditions left, by the time he's done. Might as well wipe the slate clean now!

I see that he like the tradition of the next king being covered in riches though.

Princess Anne is where it's at. She gets it. Works hard, wears ordinary brands like Land's End, and does her duty without complaining. She should be the next monarch.

Had a similar conversation with my 7 year old today, trying to explain how they elect a new Pope. Said it can take days, weeks or months to elect a new one. He asked “well what happens if Jesus returns? Who will be there to greet him” 🤣

He also wonders if anyone sneaks McDonalds in to the cardinals when the Cardinals get locked into conclave 🤭

Total derail but my daiquiri but about electing the new Pope is that after a set number of days, if the College of Cardinals hasn't decided, they stop serving them anything but bread and water at meal times. For some reason they tend to reach a decision before that point!

Also @ThisFluentBiscuit Robert Hardman mentioned that William had questions / doubts about the church as an establishment - noone has ever suggested he was an athiest.

Having doubts and questioning your faith is common to most believers. Having doubts and questions about the Church as an establishment is very common.

The last Archbishop of Canterbury said in 2014 that there are moments when even he doubts the existence of God.

Interestingly Charles, with his own deep personal faith alongside his philosophical interest in history and religions, might have been the best person to start the process of separation between church and state. I suspect he may not have the time needed.

I think Charles might surprise us with a longer innings than we think, and I hope so.

"The creaking door hangs the longest" after all!

Did you feel the same when the previous next Head didn't go to church at Easter with the current Head? Or is this just the shiny new stick to beat William with, the others having failed to cause a ripple in the public consciousness?

Oh god, the next head of church did not need to be at the Windsor service any more than the current incumbent did when his mother was head of the church! Have you not gathered that from this thread? You're literally wrong!

William hasn't stepped out of line AT ALL!

MrsLeonFarrell · 22/04/2025 17:12

You can't literally be wrong about this; it's an opinion. My opinion is that he should have been at the main service supporting his family as the next head of the church. That is quite reasonable and logical.

IMO he should be upholding standards and tradition instead of contributing to this let-it-all-hang-out society we now, have where everyone just makes themselves comfortable no matter what values are sacrificed.

But Charles didn't go to the service at Windsor when his mother was on the throne.

Were you this mad about him too?

I can see that the concept of standards and duty instead of self-first is very odd to most contemporary Britons.

I will repeat my question.

Were you this upset when Charles celebrated Easter in Scotland rather than at Windsor with the late Queen?

As a matter of interest am I correct in assuming you are a person of faith and a regular church goer?

wordler · 22/04/2025 17:20

It's interesting how much you dislike William (Harry is this you?)

The thing is he's very popular - only just slightly less popular than Catherine.

In one poll when people were asked who they'd like to be President if the UK was a republic the top answer was Prince William.

He's even the most popular public figure in the USA - voted by both Dems and Repubs.

Whatever he's doing - it's clearly working for most people.

I'm afraid I can't remember what KC did on each Easter. But he should have been at the biggest Easter service with the Queen, yes, imo.

My personal beliefs have nothing to do with the fact that I think the next head of the church should be making a fuss about Easter.
