This was the only option route open to Harry, but even should he win a review and they did alter his protection there would be no guarantee that Ravec decision would be for his family and not Harry alone.

Who decides on IPP status? Any tin-pot dictator or foreign celebrity even could have this conferred upon them surely? Does IPP get decided in private, is it a RAVEC recommendation, or does Harry have to go to court again to plead for this?

What was Salman Rushdie’s status? I mention him as it could be argued that he brought trouble on himself (although free speech and all that…). I agree that Harry might have done some goading to strengthen his case although, as has been observed, totally cockeyed thinking to put your family in danger to get security against f to he danger 🤪 (Also read that Taliban think he’s a plonker rather than a serious adversary.)

I mention this because it’s the first time I was witness to something!
my dh was stationed at Brize Norton when salman Rushdie was flown here , I saw the plane land!
I was working in Boswells of Oxford next to the bookshop he did his signings in , though nothing came of it , we all had to evacuate ( the bookshop and surrounding buildings) when there was a bomb scare !

jeffgoldblum · 19/04/2025 12:50

I should further add , the security that Harry wants is completely different to that of Rushdie , he was granted political asylum because of the fatwa put out on him after he wrote the satanic verses.
we were at war ( small w ) with those that issued the fatwa and his security was mostly handled by the military and RAF .

Thanks for pointing that out...it reminds me of a discussion elsewhere (darned if I can find it now) about the issue of costs in the context of the more senior UK royals.

What I certainly hadn't realised is that in some/many/most cases the public only pick up the bill for the individual who must be protected, if the principal wants 24/7 coverage for family members when they are remote from the principal the principal pays for the extra.

The bill involved for protecting spouse of principal plus two or three children could, depending on coverage required, easily be a million pounds plus per annum.

He also suggested he was deeply unhappy with some of the evidence he had heard during the closed sittings of the court. “People would be shocked by what’s being held back,” he said, adding that his “worst fears have been confirmed by the whole legal disclosure in this case and that’s really sad”.

I reckon KC and possibly other members of the RF and/or staff haven’t supported his argument. It reads so much like his other ‘hints’ before going on to air his dirty laundry.

Honestly, I think he would have been SHOCKED AND APPALLED by whatever he heard in private.

I've known a few people like him.

One guy attended a meeting where we told him XYZ, we followed up the meeting in writing confirming we'd told him XYZ, and for months afterwards, we were on the receiving end of YOU SAID ABC. Solicitors got involved, and provided extra evidence that we did, in fact, say XYZ. NO, YOU SAID ABC.

He'll have heard whatever he wanted to hear in the hearing, and has incredibly poor understanding of other's perspectives. He can't possibly imagine a world in which other people hear XYZ as XYZ, not ABC.

HonoriaBulstrode · 19/04/2025 13:22

I think the most explosive thing would be if the late Queen wrote a letter to support Harry on the one hand but, off the record (and Harry has somehow found out), she said she didn't support it but wrote the letter to placate Harry. But I'm not sure she was a game player so...

I think the late Queen might have written the letter for clarification, in order to get a reply, in writing, on the record, setting out the situation so everyone knew where they were. But as TheNinkyNonky says, someone tells Harry XYZ and he hears ABC....

Sorry @notimagain, I’m a bit slow on the uptake today !
you might need to explain to me like I’m Harry! 🤣

It's a bit of an "in" joke..

The RAF is military, but many of those who served in UK forces wearing dark blue or brown often insist otherwise..🤔

TheSecondMrsCampbellBlack · 19/04/2025 13:48

Thanks for the new thread

Someone on the other thread suggested he could be considered a vexatious litigant. I wish he would be classified as one so he cant waste any more taxpayer money and court time with this bullshit.

NewAgeNewMe · 19/04/2025 13:50

A reminder that when supporters say ‘why do you care, he doesn’t cost us anything/we aren’t paying for him’ his court cases alone and necessary security when here most certainly does cost the tax payer while doing absolutely nothing for the country and people paying for it.

Ah I’m with you !
my dh was RAF and I thought it was safer to phrase it that way because ive had the whole “not the same “ business!

and because he was posted to brize and in tcw he was actually in Iraq and Afghanistan and on frontline !
despite what certain others may think! 🙄

That someone was me. Let's hope it happens, although I don't think it likely.

jeffgoldblum · 19/04/2025 14:48

sorry Got sidetracked!
anyway the point I was trying to make ( rather badly!) was that there is no correlation between the security Harry wants and that of s Rushdie.

Yes, but you will be told he couldn't help being born a prince in a country full of racists who all want to murder his wife, so....

MaturingCheeseball · 19/04/2025 14:51

I agree with @RandyRedHumpback that he just wants servants, or useful henchmen, to smooth his path and make him feel important - just like the old days and as is his birthright.

The look on Harry’s face in that picture where he was forced to share a lift with the great unwashed was priceless. He didn’t look afraid - he looked insulted .

NewAgeNewMe · 19/04/2025 14:53

I think he looked confused actually almost as if he couldn’t quite believe what was happening.

Indeed! Let’s not forget he also needs security to stop people retaliating when he hits them!!!
I’ve heard of at least two examples of this and I’m assuming there is probably more.

catin8oot5 · 19/04/2025 15:07

When did he have to share a lift?

MaturingCheeseball · 19/04/2025 15:24

Just looked it up and it was at an NFL event; he was forced to share a crowded lift and is stuck on the back wall looking really glum.

Puzzledandpissedoff · 19/04/2025 18:47

according to various sources full protection 24/7/365 for the whole family will empty the trust funds/ bank accounts PDQ

@notimagain that's why I wondered on an earlier thread whether they really do have full time protection in the US, or just hire a few grunts for chosen occasions where they can be sure of there being cameras

There's probably no way of knowing though ...

BasiliskStare · 19/04/2025 20:28

I know I know it has been said so many times before but the sheer hubris / stupidity / lack of self awareness of Harry not realising that he and M as being part of the WRF are completely different to them touting for cash / privileges etc is just a thing which I sort of gloss over but then every so often I do think Harry - Can you not see this. Well he obviously can't & whilst I do not wish them any ill will as a family ( small f) I do wish they could realise this. In my opinion far from the RF owing them an apology - M should be thanking them for the opportunities. I know most people knew this but it does hit me once in a while how utterly lacking he is in common sense . As my granny would have said - he hasn't got the brains he was born with and to be fair I am not sure he would claim to be academically clever. But there are other sorts of intelligence and he seems to be lacking in all of them.

It could be seen as an indictment of how institutionalised members of the RF really are. Brought up on a weird bubble that bears no relationship to normal experience at all. They cannot understand what it is to be in the ‘outside’. It’s like letting someone who has been born and brought up in prison out to fend for themselves. If that person isn’t too bright and his brain has been addled by drugs , plus a lot of trauma, it isn’t a great outlook. It’s like that person met a criminal on the outside who promises to show them how to live and cope, only to lead them into a desperate life of crime. Lots of mixed metaphors and maybe it’s all too complicated an analogy but lamb to the slaughter springs to mind.

So it is great news that W&C are bringing theirs up differently
