Watching the news about the horrendous rubbish problem in Birmingham, this was followed by Kates film clip rambling about Windermere saying we need to connect with nature and couldn’t help thinking it was inappropriate.I bet cancer sufferers in Birmingham would love to do this instead of holding down a job worrying about col doing chores that I bet she never does and have stinking rubbish with rats in the streets. I have no problem with her video but thought the timing was so off. They sometimes need to read the room.

Where did he attend last year then?

I don't know, I don't keep tabs. They can go to whatever church service they like. Or not.

notacooldad · 17/04/2025 20:46

I repeat I never said it was Kates problem and I am truly glad she is in remission, I think the clip would be uplifting for people but not straight after the Birmingham news. That was the point I was making
So maybe it shouldn't be in the Royalist topic as it is nothing to do with her when the clip promoting Scouting gets aired?

This thread is bizarre!!!
it’s gone from indignant rage over upstaging of Birmingham bins , to the irrelevance of the scouts and now we have frothing over Easter services!

Yes, it certainly is bizarre.
Some posters really do need to unclench!

I’m rather intrigued to see where it’s going next though 😂

Well then perhaps he should think twice about becoming Monarch, Head of State and Head of the Church of England and Scotland, if he can’t get his arse out of bed to attend the Easter service.

I like to subscribe to the Elizabeth I train of thought

“I have no desire to make windows into men's souls”

How they worship in private is nothing to with me, you or anyone else.

Maybe you should keep your nose out too?

He is to be the Head of the Church!

No-one has a window into his soul.
I wouldn't judge a person on whether they attended a particular church service on a particular day or not. . Plus I have no idea at all why it's arousing such strong negative feelings.
Genuinely.

Also keep my nose out? There’s no need to be rude

This isn’t about someone’s soul. This is about his public duty. These aren’t the same things.

I know, really strange! Some people maybe are very invested in Easter services in the C of E, perhaps?

It is private. Even the head of the Church of England is entitled to private in worship.

It’s so interesting to see the view of a pious Church of England worshipper as yourself though. If you have such concerns about their heir to throne maybe you should write to your local bishop or the Archbishop of Canterbury to air your concerns. Or perhaps even King Charles, since he is the Head of the Church of England.

But I’m glad to see such piety upon Mumsnet 🥰

BigWillyLittleTodger · 17/04/2025 20:52

I agree that it really doesn’t look good on William and Kate, he is supposedly going to be the Supreme Governor of the Church of England, the least he could do is turn up for an hours service at Easter, he manages to go to the football, he could certainly attend church, he doesn’t have to bring the children or Kate but the least he could do is show up himself, I agree it looks bad.

I still don't get it. Why is it his public duty to go to a particular church service?
It's not an official thing like Remembrance Sunday or whatever. I just don't get why you're getting so cross about it.

Oh, is this in the public mandate of the royal family? Pray tell, where is this law that requires the Prince of Wales to attend a public Easter service, rather than a private service? Can you show me any links?

He did in the 90s with Diana and the boys. I’m not sure when that changed and what year that occurred/related to Camilla etc?

But he bloody well should have attended every year.

Same as William should. No excuse.

Why? What's the important part of this to you? Performing for the cameras or going to church?

I’m invested in Royals doing their duty and representing the British public and its traditions.

Many posters on here seem to pick and chose which royals that applies to and who are fair game to criticise.

I apply an even hand.

NewAgeNewMe · 17/04/2025 20:55

A few years ago they went to an Easter service with the Middletons
though it could have been Christmas I suppose
I really can’t remember

first year I’m missing church as not well (again) Easter is huge in the Orthodox Church and gutted I’ll not be going.

I mean, William isn’t even the head of the Church of England yet. What if he decides he doesn’t want this role when he becomes King?

The important part is that he carries out his duties. Which he isn’t doing.

Why are you all excusing him?

Where in the constitution does it say that he has to go to a public Easter ceremony? He’s entitled to go to a private ceremony. He isn’t actually the Head of the Church yet.

No not yet. But he will be. It reflects incredibly badly that as the PoW he doesnt bother. And it looks like he isn’t bothering because he QEII isn’t around anymore.

I think there would be a constitutional and political crisis, I don’t think you can choose either or, they come as a package, I would presume if he didn’t want to be head of the Church he wouldn’t be able to be King either, though hopefully some expert on here will be able to clarify.

It doesn’t say anywhere that they are not going to Church on Easter Sunday though 🤷‍♀️ Just that they are staying in Norfolk. The Easter service at Windsor is a family gathering, not a state occasion. Photos are taken by the press, but it’s not compulsory for the King and heir to be there

The constitution? What are you taking about!!

There are certain duties that are expected, attending an important religious ceremony being one of them.

Come on, stop pretending.

But we don’t know that he isn’t attending a service ! We just know he isn’t attending the one at Windsor .
