Watching the news about the horrendous rubbish problem in Birmingham, this was followed by Kates film clip rambling about Windermere saying we need to connect with nature and couldn’t help thinking it was inappropriate.I bet cancer sufferers in Birmingham would love to do this instead of holding down a job worrying about col doing chores that I bet she never does and have stinking rubbish with rats in the streets. I have no problem with her video but thought the timing was so off. They sometimes need to read the room.

I repeat I never said it was Kates problem and I am truly glad she is in remission, I think the clip would be uplifting for people but not straight after the Birmingham news. That was the point I was making.

Have you never up to now seen some odd juxtapositions on a news programme?

Massive pile up with fatalities on the motorway followed by a feel good story of a cat finding his way from John o' Groats to Clapham and reuniting with owners who thought he was dead?

CandiedPrincess · 16/04/2025 12:35

The people of Birmingham could also dispose of their own rubbish. It's not hard.

This post is crazy.

Hasn’t the tip been blockaded or something? If it was that simple I’m sure they would have.

BitOutOfPractice · 16/04/2025 13:36

Where?

Manchester? London? Wherever they have relatives they can visit this weekend?

( I know, it was a silly suggestion.)

TheCryingTheBitchAndTheFloordrobe · 16/04/2025 17:33

Why on earth are people getting so defensive about this?
It's obvious that OP isn't having a pop at Kate, just talking about potentially insensitive scheduling on the part of the broadcaster!

Uricon2 · 16/04/2025 17:35

Yesterday a news report featured the 80th anniversary of the liberation of Belsen, with utterly heartbreaking survivor testimony. It was immediately followed by a segment on the difficulty of booking a driving test quickly enough.

Does that put the Birmingham bins/PoW juxtaposition into perspective OP? It is the way news broadcasts work.

The world does not revolve around Birmingham, unless you live in Birmingham. Kate's message was for a national audience. There is no way that PR people can find a time to release a positive message when there is no negative news. A bad time for this message would have been the day after the queen's death, for example.

Lascivious · 16/04/2025 17:40

I roll my eyes at yet another slo-mo video of Kate with music and a waffly voiceover.

But she couldn’t really help the scheduling.

VegasVixen · 16/04/2025 17:42

What the hel$$$_!!
My four year old just woke up ......I have a little something to say .. can't it's the nanny 's day off the cook ran away .. the dog has terminal cancer I don't thank you Lord and my big girl not a toddler is now tapping the table needing my help cooking and help her with personal hygiene. F u op

Fridgetapas · 16/04/2025 17:42

I think in some ways you have a point. It’s very easy to say get out to nature and in reality a lot harder for people to actually do.

Especially in this country where lots of the countryside is private land, or pay to park, or you have to drive to it and public transport is expensive.

portocristo · 16/04/2025 17:43

Again I am not blaming Kate

So who is the 'They' that needs to read the room. If you didnt mean that to be directed at her you could have made that clearer.

This is why it's a shame we have mostly lost regional broadcasting. 50 years ago, ATV could have done what it wanted with the scheduling for Birmingham.

JoyousEagle · 16/04/2025 17:49

Would you have posted this thread if the person promoting the Scouts hadn’t been Kate (if we ignore the fact that it was probably only in the news because it was her)?
On my bbc news app there is the b’ham story, just below it a story about a colossal squid, and a few stories further down, Swedish people watching an annual moose migration, two stories above is one about an oak tree being cut down. You could just as easily say “I bet the people of b’ham would love to only have squid and moose and trees to worry about”.

Absolutely tragic news stories about war, murder, famine, natural disasters etc get put next to far less significant stories all the time, just by the nature of the news.

CremeEggThief · 16/04/2025 17:50

Weird OP.

Then why post this on the Royal family board? If you wanted to comment on an unfortunate juxtaposition on the news surely the TV board would be more appropriate?

Also having Kate's name in the title and posting on the RF board 🤔.

portocristo · 16/04/2025 18:06

Not really

Seems a rather tenuous link op.

Cathandkin · 16/04/2025 18:11

Oh my god. The Birmingham waste problem is awful.
Kate supporting the Scout movement, and especially encouraging the outdoors life and awareness of nature and the eco system is to be applauded. Neither the bin problem, nor the news schedule has anything to do with her, ffs.
I'm not a royalist, but come on! There are many things you could be critical of. This isn't one of them.

Oh leave off.

Quite - thats what news bulletins are like.

Then why did you put it in this topic?

The news is always a mixed bag of topics, often going between highs and lows, if it's too much for your sensitivities then maybe you should just not watch it or get your news online.

Vitrolinsanity · 16/04/2025 18:17

You entire post was an attempt to discredit the POW, you talk about how she doesn’t have to worry about rats and rubbish and that “they” should read the room”.

You’re having your arse handed to you because you’ve failed to get a whiplash anti-royal response.

I painted my sitting room today whilst Birmingham is over run with uncollected rubbish and rats. I wonder, should I have instead driven up there and helped out?
