Watching the news about the horrendous rubbish problem in Birmingham, this was followed by Kates film clip rambling about Windermere saying we need to connect with nature and couldn’t help thinking it was inappropriate.I bet cancer sufferers in Birmingham would love to do this instead of holding down a job worrying about col doing chores that I bet she never does and have stinking rubbish with rats in the streets. I have no problem with her video but thought the timing was so off. They sometimes need to read the room.

It doesn’t say anywhere that they are not going to Church on Easter Sunday though 🤷‍♀️ Just that they are staying in Norfolk. The Easter service at Windsor is a family gathering, not a state occasion. Photos are taken by the press, but it’s not compulsory for the King and heir to be there

Does it say anywhere he should attend trooping the colour? or any other event?

We all know there are certain events that the royals are expected to appear. Easter service is one of them.

No not yet. But he will be. It reflects incredibly badly that as the PoW he doesnt bother. And it looks like he isn’t bothering because he QEII isn’t around anymore.

I love how wound up you are getting about this 🤣

AtIusvue · 17/04/2025 21:01

Mylovelygreendress · 17/04/2025 20:59

But we don’t know that he isn’t attending a service ! We just know he isn’t attending the one at Windsor .

Where did he attend last year then?

No idea however his wife was having chemotherapy so I imagine he was supporting her and their DC .

AtIusvue · 17/04/2025 21:01

Additionally, I don’t care what his personal relationship with Easter is.

I care that he has a duty, as future monarch, to attend certain services. This being one of them.

No it doesn’t, so I wouldn’t be upset if someone decided they couldn’t attend for whatever reason. It’s only you who is getting upset. Tell me, are you a Church going Protestant? Only I don’t understand why you are getting so upset about this unless you are. Bless you.

Well we know she isn’t receiving treatment anymore and is cancer free.

We also know that he attended the Villa game this week…..

Oh! So you watch the Trooping of the Colour, the royal Easter service, the royal Christmas service and Catherine’s carol service. I get you 😉

Trooping the colour is a State Occaision. So yes he should be there. But he doesn’t have to go to Church in Windsor. It’s a family gathering. They have lunch after. Like many families. And like many families, some will worship elsewhere

I repeat I never said it was Kates problem and I am truly glad she is in remission, I think the clip would be uplifting for people but not straight after the Birmingham news. That was the point I was making.

It’s a bin strike, not a bloody terror attack!

He has very few duties required of him. Very few. The fact he can’t be bothered to attend the Easter service is indicative of how he will act as King.

The public will get tired of him very quickly if he picks and chooses like this.

As far as we know she is cancer free and I hope she remains so however none of us know what her mental health is like . I struggled long after my treatment ended.

I’m so sorry. I understand now. You’re upset that you’re not going to get your William and Catherine fix for Easter. It’s totally understandable. Poor thing, I feel your disappointment 🥰

The important part is that he carries out his duties. Which he isn’t doing.

Why are you all excusing him?

Where does it say part of the Prince of Wales' duties is to attend a church service at Easter at Windsor, and what is the purpose of that duty? If attendance at church at Easter is the duty (to show that he worships within the c of E), then why isn't worship at his local church good enough?

I'm not excusing him. I am an atheist and I don't care if he goes to church or not, it's his private choice. When he is head of state, he will need to do the duties required of him wrt being head of the C of E. He's not head of state now, so I'm not going to get into a froth like you are. Their previous Easter must have been utterly miserable and terrifying for that family, what with breaking news of Catherine's cancer to their kids (and the world, after all the shit that was flung at them) and with her starting her chemo. I think you are being weird and insensitive to begrudge them a quiet one this year because of some duty that doesn't exist.

Where does it say the Royals have to do anything?

There are certain events/services that Royals are expected to attend. This is one of them.

Stop pretending otherwise.

I'm not being obtuse or anything but I genuinely don't know what the problem is. Does the PoW have to attend a particular service at a particular church, because that's something that I never knew and quite frankly seems a bit odd, but then again I'm not C of E.

I mean, they are currently the most popular royals. I don’t think them skipping church is going to make much of an impact. But I get it, to devout Protestants and eager royalists, such as yourself, it’s upsetting not to see your favourite royals at the Easter service. I hope you have fun looking out for the royals who will be attending though 😊

There is a difference between a tradition and a State Occasion. I don’t think the vast majority share your view that he is expected to attend. Possible he didn’t visit Church last year because Catherine was unwell. Will you be happy if he attends Church in Norfolk?

As Prince of Wales, Charles missed the 2003 Trooping of the Colour 🥱

MrsLeonFarrell · 17/04/2025 21:12

I really hope that by the time William ascends the Monarch is no longer the Head of the Church. It's an anachronism and harmful to both the church and the State to have this link. I'm not a fan of performative faith and don't think anyone should be required to do it. Since the previous Prince of Wales didn't attend church publically at Easter and now does as King, I see no reason that William shouldn't chose to follow his example. We are a country that mostly runs on precedent and that is the precedent.

Excuse me?

There are duties that are expected of senior royals, particularly one who is to King one day.

I must ask you to step away from labelling me as 1) devout Protestant
2) royalist.
Neither of these things are true. I haven’t labelled you as anything. I expect the same respect.

Then why are you so bothered about the next heir to the throne attending an Easter service if you are not a devout Protestant or a Royalist? I don’t understand?
