@Uricon2 Just because so many people etc etc 😉
and @LaMarschallin

Yes!Yes! it was Rouge Noir! guilty as charged. 😊 ( which probably dates me but I don't care - at the time I wanted it and it was between all other expenses not something I would have bought for myself) But Oh how happy I was to unwrap it from under the tree in its black and white packaging. In current day prices it is £30. So an "accessible" luxury but but Chanel have taken decades and decades to build their brand. ( & I fell for it. 😂)

Edited

😂 I seem to remember it was pretty good too. The matching lipstick not so much, it made me look like one of the Undead. It was 1994 @mainecooncatonahottinroof (Googled) although I'd have sworn it was a few years later.

All the buzz happened without benefit of Internet too, the power of something that people actually want and a strong brand.

The bunnies get much better value :)

Same stuff, different price!

I’m telling you - if the dried flowers are the same as for pet rodents, someone needs to check that shortbread mix. I didn’t hear any talk of shortbread before the launch, but lots of talk about dog biscuits!

Shortbread with a hint of Bisto.

WomanWhoSitsByTheWindow · 10/04/2025 10:56

@Uricon2 the pre-Internet buzz for Rouge Noir in my peer group (aged 15-16 mid 90s) was generated from Uma Thurman wearing it in Pulp Fiction, and looking ridiculously cool doing so. My Saturday job wages didn't stretch to Chanel then, I had to make do with a Boots No7 copy, can't remember what it was called. I would have loved, loved the Chanel original.

WomanWhoSitsByTheWindow · 10/04/2025 10:56

But on the theme more broadly: a lipstick or nail polish at £30 is a luxury that can give months of enjoyment when finances are tight. High end preserves don't necessarily have the same impact in terms of bang for your buck: there's not going to more than 20 dollops in that 215g jar. And also, it's just fruit and sugar, which is broadly going to taste nice whether As Ever at $13, or Bonne Maman at a fraction of that.

Was it Dragons Blood, that was our Boots polish of choice mid 90s, we were also influenced by Buffy, the Craft and the vampire/witch craze.

I now have a bottle of Rouge Noir bought by my bestie. I might dig it out once i have finished the decorating and can wear varnish again!

BunnyLake · 10/04/2025 11:55

Some reviews have said the jam (spread) is runny. Is this true (if anyone on here has it?). If I want a runny jam I’ll just buy the supermarket own brand budget range.

The comments on the tea are scathing .

The way forward with elevated tea drinkers now is to use recyclable tea bags and to curate your own little bags of joy by mixing your own selection.

The day I believe the Fail about anything is the day I kill myself - I don't intend to do that anytime soon. They weren't going to come to any other conclusion that they were shit and/or overpriced. Without testing them myself (I'm on the mailing list!) I remain open minded. In the meantime I will have to make do with other royal overpriced tat. 20 herbal tea bags for 12 quid. Meghan is fising in the same waters tbf.

Oh, you should! It's all delicious and much better value than the shite being flogged by Markle. I had Highgrove jam delivered the other day and it's lovely. You might not like it, because you can't pour it out of the jar like cheap fruity slop, but I really appreciate the way I need a knife to spread it. Plus, the tea is actually drinkable and the biscuits are already made and not full of weird ingredients.

So you don’t believe what Harry’s chum said about the Sentebale debacle?

Tad dramatic.

I don't know why the news reports in the Daily Mail are different to any other news reports. There are certain journalistic standards. They can't just print lies!

Was it? I was way out! I'd pegged it as much earlier! The lippy wasn't for me either.

If she bagged up a lump of actual shite and labelled it chocolate, you'd still be salivating over it.

MrsLeonFarrell · 10/04/2025 21:16

I recommend Teapigs, not royal at all just great herbal tea.

smilesy · 10/04/2025 21:42

I am more shocked that 12 teabags cost $12 😱

Father Brendan filmed a follow-up video. He recommended that Meghan give up the show business career and try to make changes to do real good like Charles, Anne and William. Hilarious comments from the good Father but he actually raises some valid points. He said her "niche ain't making cookery programs".

So these ‘more accessible and affordable’ products that no-one can hold of because only a few ever got made and sent to influencers and media bods … is that it, then?

Are any actually available for sale today? Is this a genuine business?
