I think during any time of recession, people still want to find creature comforts, items that can bring them joy

This is true, but as ever she astonishes with the arrogance of thinking that people will find more joy in a jar of $14 Meghan Markle jam than in a $4 Smuckers jam and $10 on a coffee and pastry somewhere peaceful in the sun. Astonishing hubris to think that if a woman has a few dollars to spare when belts have been tightened and the national and household mood is low, they'd spend any spare cash on buying her overpriced, poor-value-for-money products (all already available for a fraction of the cost) because they are the essence of Meghan Markle rather than on, say, a new nail varnish or lip gloss. She's not in any sense a serious businesswoman (or person).

I wanted to create products that look more prestige, but are more accessible and affordable

She's actually saying out loud that the money people spend on her products is going on the packaging, not the ingredients. How idiotic can a person be?! This is exactly what people - including her - mean when they talk about her hostessing. She'll be all about the presentation and decor and candles and flowers, but when you sit down to eat it will be chicken nuggets and tater tots, pretzels from TJ's decanted into an expensive dish etc. It's so (sorry!) suburban and tacky. This is what she was during her 10 minutes in the RF: pitching up to an engagement wearing Dior and expensive makeup and hair, not a clue about where she was visiting or any interest in what she was doing. She's all about the look, totally empty inside. South Park had her bang on.

Well why should products that are affordable look cheap? They don't have to. Lots of products out there that look beautiful, packaged beautifully but are in the affordable range.

This "logic" is even more perverse than MM's. Affordable products don't need to look cheap. Who said they should Confused As you say, there are loads of good looking affordable products out there (most of the Duchy Originals range, in fact).

Affordable products must be, first and foremost from the perspectives of both producer and consumer, good quality. If there's a choice to be made between quality and packaging, both producer and consumer choose quality first: consumers because times are hard, producers because they want to stay in business.

If there's no choice to be made between quality and packaging because the product can be affordable even with both targets being hit, then there's no problem. But that's not what MM said. She said she wanted products that "look more prestige", ie look more prestige than they actually are.

Which point are you addressing with "Well why should products that are affordable look cheap?"? This is the sort of weird contortion of reasoning that MM supporters regularly have to resort to because there's no other way to deal with the tripe she puts out. You all have to make something nonsensical make sense.

At my most penny pinched times , mortgage , children etc , I did like a present or a bit of luxury. I recall getting a Chanel nail varnish for Christmas which is not in the grand scheme of things inaccessible but I loved it because in tight times it was something I would not have bought for myself. But it was Chanel! I did like the colour and you could get a Boots dupe. Now I will accept any criticism for for being influenced by the brand ( and it was good quality IIRC ) but I do think that I would not have been (at the time ) so delighted to get a Duchess of York nail varnish.

Was it Rouge Noir?

ETA apologies for the most off topic post ever

I'm glad to see that it's not only me who sees how she ties herself in knots with her word salad !

glitterturd · 09/04/2025 18:07

Environmental concerns and sustainability are of very high importance now with goods and services. It has been this way for many years now in the UK - not so much in the USA. Recycling of containers, removal of unnecessary packing on fruit and veg, refillable containers etc. Look at Harry with his latest output about not enough people thinking about sustainability when they are booking their flights , not looking at their CO2 footprint etc ( not that it seems to bother him). You would think he would be saying to Meghan " hmmm what about all this unnecessary packaging ? Is it needed ? " . This is the opposite of what Travalyst is aiming for.

so hypocritical

I don’t usually eat packaging. I would rather have a quality affordable product simply packaged but tasting great than a sloppy runny pseudo spread in the most elaborate packaging known to mankind

@Uricon2 Just because so many people etc etc 😉
and @LaMarschallin

Yes!Yes! it was Rouge Noir! guilty as charged. 😊 ( which probably dates me but I don't care - at the time I wanted it and it was between all other expenses not something I would have bought for myself) But Oh how happy I was to unwrap it from under the tree in its black and white packaging. In current day prices it is £30. So an "accessible" luxury but but Chanel have taken decades and decades to build their brand. ( & I fell for it. 😂)

PullTheBricksDown · 09/04/2025 21:59

I wanted to create products that look more prestige, but are more accessible and affordable**

This is the influencer perspective. When Meghan says this, she's talking about them looking more prestigious on Instagram. Not in an actual kitchen, being opened and cooked with and eaten. Tbh it doesn't look that brilliant to me in digital form either, but that is what she's thinking of.

people are saying that my suggestion he should have had a week of contemplation/ grieving before touring is a silly idea and impossible to happen.
citing his feelings isn't an actual reasopn why he couldn't have done so

Your post makes no sense.

I imagine it was symbolic in some way of the new monarchy It won't have been done on some whim!

Whatever the reason, can you not even find it in yourself to be compassionate to a bereaved man, just because you hate him? Have a word with yourself.

mainecooncatonahottinroof · 09/04/2025 23:14

Mightymoog · 09/04/2025 08:27

yes, he has to do the proclamation but there's no time limit on that.
Where does it say anywhere he has to immediately go on a tour of the Uk?
Where is it stated he is not allowed a week to himself first?

i was quite clearly told on here that it would be impossible for him to have a week to himself and that I am ignorant of how the monarchy works/ the law.
Still waiting for an actual explanation of why I'm wrong to suggest that but CBA to reply anymore as my actual question is being ignored

You don't need an explanation. You just need to accept that it happened. And that the bereaved man had a brief moment of irritation and frustration and you won't even give him a bye-ball in the difficult circumstances. I think it's really callous.

Don't know if this has been posted before but very much an enthusiatic puff piece. You write off the Duchess at your peril!

“At its conception, I had thought about the interest that people seem to have in my fashion, for example, what I would wear,” said Meghan. “I think there’s a parallel here, always the ‘high-low.’ I always loved things that present beautifully, but didn’t break the bank.”

With the global economy entering uncharted waters, this formula for success may prove even more enduring than ever before.

Mrs Farrell may have a rogue cousin over the pond !

For Sharla Farrell, public relations and marketing consultant, it all feels very true to Meghan. “It’s her, that’s her brand, her passion,” Farrell says, drawing a straight line between her early lifestyle blog, The Tig, and As Ever. “She’s been doing this for years. She’s all about lifestyle, homemaking, craft, wellness. I’m not shocked that she has this brand — and I’m not shocked that it has sold out. At all.”

It probably is very true to Meghan, ie more bullshit.

I'm not shocked either that it has sold out - because I reckon there was fuck all of it in the first place!

Well the packaging is shite. Really twee.

WTF does jam or whatever the heck it is need to come in any packaging? Compare and contrast, Harry's "do as I say not as I do" lectures for Travalyst? Travesty more like.

I don't want to buy cheap crap for a high price because of the bloody packaging! Are you mad?!

Does it date me? - I expect that I am much older than you & I think I was late to the party. Actually I might get some for if the sun ever comes out & I shall refer to my pedicure as classic with a vintage twist.

The bugger about Rouge Noir IME was you needed a steady hand. Clear / pale pink / nude - much more forgiving to the non nail painting trained. 😊💅😂

Well I'm 62, though I have no idea how the heck that happened, so... Couldn't do my own nails now - it would be all over the place! I think I had it as a student so early 80s?

I’m telling you - if the dried flowers are the same as for pet rodents, someone needs to check that shortbread mix. I didn’t hear any talk of shortbread before the launch, but lots of talk about dog biscuits!
