The word 'nightstand' always makes me laugh because it makes me think of 'c**kstand', whose Victorian quaintness also makes me laugh. All the talk of buds and jars is conjuring up some very interesting images. It's just as well I speak British English so can talk about bedside tables.

I think I read somewhere that planning the rollout has been difficult as they have so little insight into take up.

So it is possible they did a limited first production run which the fans have scooped up and items may have sold out.

As ever, with such launches it’s not always the initial sales that foreshadow success though. It’s the pattern of repeat and sustained buying from a core demographic.

Not sure I agree. This isn’t grocery. It’s discretionary spending from an “aspirational” person. It’s going to be about rolling out a conveyor belt of cheap to make products with a hefty price tag. So that their fans can get the whole set. It’s the sort of stuff that can be quickly manufactured and produced according to demand as they test it out. It’s exactly what any fmcg would do.

The thing is, with your first lot of jam, I suppose you can use your empty jar for a bud vase (if you are into that type of shabby chic thing), and your cardboard box as your time capsule or love letter box, because love letters are all the rage these days, aren't they. But I assume she wants you to buy a second and third jar, and so on and so on. What do you do with all the annoying extra packaging? It's not like it's a perfume that might last for months or even years before you buy another. You'll be getting a lot of extra boxage maybe once a month, if not more often if you are a regular spreader. What are you supposed to do with it? Keep your condoms in it? Teeth? Hair snippets? Tampax?

She's pitching the jam as a sort of "one off gift" product rather than something that people buy regularly.

She clearly thinks her packaging is very stylish but is seems all style over substance especially with the very small 215g jar. At the end of the day she wants people to pay a premium for glass and cardboard that will end up in the recycling.

SatinBall · 02/04/2025 15:27

The packaging looks cheesy, her show is dull, and her awkward kitchen dances are cringe-inducing. Her cooking looks unappetising, and her Insta content comes across as amateurish. It’s all surreal and disjointed, reminiscent of Alice in Wonderland. The overly polished beige aesthetic, coupled with her manic smile and cold expression with micro aggressions etches in her face, seem robotic, sterile and volatile, while her messy and unrefined cooking creates an uncomfortable inconsistency with the minimalist setting and clothes that simply doesn’t add up and makes it all appear dystopian. We all know Californians don't stuff themselves with croissant, crepe and spread, what's the point? It's so fake.

Come now, @SatinBall , tell us what you really think! 😂(Everything you say is correct.)

But how is that going to make her millions of $? She needs repeat sales, surely, not novelty purchasers.

This is totally what will happen just to make it look a ‘sold out in an instant’ success. (When there’s only been about 10 jars actually sold!)

I àsked, rhetorically) on one of these threads earlier this week whether she had done any market research. My suspicion is not.

This DM article suggests pretty much confirms my suspicion. Summary: team already fed up, too much drama around H&M, have had to sign NDAs to keep production details private, don't know how much to buy of each product. www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-14558773/Meghan-Markle-launch-Netflix-doubts.html

myrtleWilson · 02/04/2025 15:43

How many servings of spread can you get from a 215g jar (real world servings, not the world where two grown adult woman share a banana for breakfast). I've googled the 215g size and the first image was the Maille Dijon which yields a smaller serving (generally - no offence to the extra keen mustard-ers [pun intended])

I don't know but nobody wants 52 "bud vases" or "keepsake boxes" a year and it's unlikely she will get many prepared to pay $9 for half a jar of jam on a regular basis

King Charles sells jars of Highgrove Organic jam that are almost double the size for £6.95 and certified organic from his estate.

Plus proceeds going to his charitable causes, which makes it even more appealing.

She's after billions! That's 110,000,000 jars of jam for just one billion.

It's an alleged Kardashian trick. They allegedly would buy up their own stuff to make it look "sold out" and then cause a run on the next batch.

I mean she did that "limited edition" instagram stunt last year when she sent 50 jars to friends and influencers in baskets of lemons ... but only about 12 people actually posted that they received one.

Lifestooshort71 · 02/04/2025 15:49

Clicked on the Sentebale thread to see what I've missed today and I've fallen into a sticky jam jar!

MummyJ12 · 02/04/2025 15:49

I’ve seen on X that Doria has been brought in on an Insta post. I may be being super cynical here but isn’t that convenient in light of the accusations this week? It’s as if she wants to remind people that her husband and his friends can’t possibly be racist because they’re an of colour family.

Profhilodisaster · 02/04/2025 15:51

MagdaLenor · 02/04/2025 15:18

No, it's the same. Meghan recommends you rinse out the jar and keep buds in it on your nightstand, or keep pens on your desk. The box you keep love letters in.
I'm not even making this shit up.

I have vases though (posh cut glass ones dontcha know) and I hate cut flowers, stinky green water because I can't be arsed to change it and scrunchy dried up leaves dropping everywhere. I guess I'll have to use it as a pen pot , except I've already got one of those too ! What a tricky situation!

So one in three US citizens would need to buy one jar. Quite a steep mountain to climb.

Profhilodisaster · 02/04/2025 15:56

There will probably be a flurry of sales and then it might peter out, It's not something people will buy on repeat.

There's a Doria video in one of the DM stories about chicken nuggets. Doria does not look very impressed and even snaps at Meghan. Not sure why they put up the video.

Interesting….
The one I saw was a banana pudding one. Doria doesn’t seem comfortable at all. She is such a private person, she’s obviously been strong armed into these sudden appearances.

Lunde · 02/04/2025 15:59

I'd love to know what is going on in the Montecito mansion?

Today has very Marie Antoinette vibes - Harry is mired in a scandal about bullying, racism, sexism and mismanagement while Meghan is grinning inanely on Instagram trying to flog overpriced jams and pancake mix.

MummyJ12 · 02/04/2025 16:02

Meghan obviously wheeled her out to give a Mindy Kaling-esque performance about how this pudding is the most glamourous thing she's ever tasted. Meghan kept prompting her and nudging her to rave about it until Doria snapped something along the lines of "I'll tell you when I'm ready"

MummyJ12 · 02/04/2025 16:06
