One of the reasons I stopped those Gousto type things was the bloody packaging. I can imagine getting very fed up having to dispose of ridiculously superfluous packaging for a jar of spread on a regular basis, if I were a fan wanting to be loyal.

Same here!

ButterCrackers · 02/04/2025 14:54

Shortbread cookies? What’s that then?

MaturingCheeseball · 02/04/2025 14:57

@RandyRedHumpback - I recently had a Gu pot cull. I had over 30 of them!

I am intrigued who the customer of As Ever is. Surely not Sussex Squad types. Affluent mid -Westerners? Real Housewives? It would be interesting to see who might buy this stuff who is not a super fan or making an ironic purchase.

Yes, I don't think people will spend $20 on a crepe mix when sales at the Dollar stores are going up

All H&M's ventures are being negatively affected by Trump, sadly. Withdrawal of USAID dor Harty, cost of living for Meghan.

Do you not think thet have enough fans? As we've seen on here they can be quite..... intense.

I àsked, rhetorically) on one of these threads earlier this week whether she had done any market research. My suspicion is not.

Don't fucking start me on the Gu pots, Cheeseball! I have a cupboard that I can't open because there will be a ramekin avalanche. I have forbidden the purchase of anything that comes with glass or pottery containers. I need to purge, but the moment I do there will be some sort of ramekin emergency, and I will be kicking myself!

Uricon2 · 02/04/2025 15:03

I'm actually boggled at the bizarre overpackaging. Perfume yes, high end candle, that sort of thing. A pot of jam, sorry spread, made to look like it came from Diptyque or similar would be nothing other than a massive disappointmen as a gift and the prices! Comes under my grandmother's heading of "more money than sense" if anyone buys them.

The "tater tots and chicken nuggets" thing is just a ploy to make herself more relatable to people who have proper jobs, no staff and don't live in mansions ie her target audience. It's quite cynical really, all a bit "Look at me! I'm a harrassed working Mom just like you!" No you're really not Meghan.

It will be US demographic of QVC shopping channel type viewers. It’s not upmarket - it’s a big ticket item for stupid people who are obsessed with British royalty/history and any remote link to it.

RandyRedHumpback · 02/04/2025 15:05

I think MM will get a number of one off purchases from (sorry to say it) a fairly low brow customer/fan base who will keep it un-used on a shelf gathering dust as a novelty. In about 5 years it will end up out of date and in the school tombola drive, where some put upon PTA helper will need to sling it away as it's no longer edible.

That could work for her, probably a lot of her fan base.
Not too lucrative, though.

Mountainfrog · 02/04/2025 15:09

Maybe it will be like a pineapple in regency times

If she ends up on QVC, that will be the last scrap of dignity gone!

there are rumblings of her selling clothes on USA Amazon!
no idea if it’s true!!!

That's quite common amongst popular influencers I think. It's called The Drop. They get to do a limited line of clothing. I got some wrinkled, beige, linen shorts from The Drop once, so Meghan should be a shoe in!

Profhilodisaster · 02/04/2025 15:15

Is the spread that comes in the extra elevated packaging different to the spread that just comes in a jar? I would expect it to have extra fancy ingredients in it.

potsandmud · 02/04/2025 15:16

Not actually QVC but don’t forget Netflix will be able to segment their viewers demographics and preferences with precision. So working this out and targeting that sort of person is where money is to be made as a retail partnership for all streamers now. It’s the 2025 version of the infomercial but with better production values.

No, it's the same. Meghan recommends you rinse out the jar and keep buds in it on your nightstand, or keep pens on your desk. The box you keep love letters in.
I'm not even making this shit up.

IdaGlossop · 02/04/2025 15:20

BunnyLake · 02/04/2025 14:13

You can get 50g of flower sprinkles for £13.99 on Amazon. Anyone paying significantly more than that will have more money than sense.

$15 on As Ever. At last (a better brand name, perhaps), each item has a price. Raspberry Spread $9. I'm confused because posters on X say most items are sold out. On the site, it says 'Coming soon'. Perhaps the cookies are to blame!

A good idea would be to make the spread in the elevated packaging actual jam, except that would draw attention to the fact that the lesser spread is not jam. So many decisions when you're a female founder.

potsandmud · 02/04/2025 15:23

Can you imagine any UHNWI buying highly processed crap like this? It’s lowest common denominator high volume (they hope) shite. Good luck to them!

BreadInCaptivity · 02/04/2025 15:25

I think I read somewhere that planning the rollout has been difficult as they have so little insight into take up.

So it is possible they did a limited first production run which the fans have scooped up and items may have sold out.

As ever, with such launches it’s not always the initial sales that foreshadow success though. It’s the pattern of repeat and sustained buying from a core demographic.

If the goal is maximum loot, she should just do whatever works.

SatinBall · 02/04/2025 15:27

RandyRedHumpback · 02/04/2025 14:32

The thing is, with your first lot of jam, I suppose you can use your empty jar for a bud vase (if you are into that type of shabby chic thing), and your cardboard box as your time capsule or love letter box, because love letters are all the rage these days, aren't they. But I assume she wants you to buy a second and third jar, and so on and so on. What do you do with all the annoying extra packaging? It's not like it's a perfume that might last for months or even years before you buy another. You'll be getting a lot of extra boxage maybe once a month, if not more often if you are a regular spreader. What are you supposed to do with it? Keep your condoms in it? Teeth? Hair snippets? Tampax?

The packaging looks cheesy, her show is dull, and her awkward kitchen dances are cringe-inducing. Her cooking looks unappetising, and her Insta content comes across as amateurish. It’s all surreal and disjointed, reminiscent of Alice in Wonderland. The overly polished beige aesthetic, coupled with her manic smile and cold expression with micro aggressions etches in her face, seem robotic, sterile and volatile, while her messy and unrefined cooking creates an uncomfortable inconsistency with the minimalist setting and clothes that simply doesn’t add up and makes it all appear dystopian. We all know Californians don't stuff themselves with croissant, crepe and spread, what's the point? It's so fake.
