Poor woman only started working there on March 3rd - and has had the As Ever shitshow and Sentebale fiasco to deal with in those 4 weeks.

I hope for her sake she has done a deal with herself to remain for two years. Her skills in dealing with difficult people will be top notch by then.

I also think Marina Hyde was tougher on SC than she needed to be. I get the sense she would have had to sacrifice some of the humour in the article. And she wanted to present SC as the new Prince Harry (slinging insults at an established institution) and ran with the metaphor.

She was tough, but the parallel didn't work otherwise. I think her focus was pointing out the karma for Harry in the situation.

ViolasandViolets · 01/04/2025 14:52

Catherine showing Meghan the ropes would be too much like Catherine being expected to serve Meghan when Catherine was significantly her senior being the wive of second in line to the throne whilst Meghan was the fiancé/wife of the fifth in line.

SatinBall · 01/04/2025 14:53

Oh dear. As I say, she does seem like quite hard work. Poor Prince Harry. It must be difficult having something you’ve served as a custodian of for a long time, only for some publicity-incontinent member of it to go on a full-spectrum media rampage, airing a load of dirty linen, but leaving you feeling like you have to bite your tongue because you can’t really win against the specific types of identity-based accusations they’re making against you.

she does seem like quite hard work
It's a totally bitchy article.

you can’t really win against the specific types of identity-based accusations they’re making against you

I thought the Guardian was all about identity-based everything.

ViolasandViolets · 01/04/2025 14:54

What is that saying about be careful how you treat people on the way up as you will meet them coming down…?

Meghan would have loved Catherine to be her handmaiden.

Mylovelygreendress · 01/04/2025 14:54

I wonder if they are up and about in Montecito yet ?
Oh to be a fly on the wall .

RandyRedHumpback · 01/04/2025 14:54

I agree with others on the Marina Hyde article. It's pretty nasty towards Sophie Chandauka. In what way is she "hard work" for responding to (not instigating) an attack, being willing to risk reputational and professional damage as a whistle blower, and bringing up grievances she's willing to both show receipts for and have independently investigated by the Charity Commission? Some might say she's inspirational to other woc in the workplace too scared to speak out - certainly the Guardian would say that about her if her opponents were not the sainted Meghan and Harry. Putting her on a par with H&M's complaints - never proven and reverse ferreted on - about the RF is a joke. The only good thing about the article is her comments on the Sussex Squad. She's spot on there.

RandyRedHumpback · 01/04/2025 14:55

X post with @SatinBall . I totally agree with you.

When she arrived and found out that there is a hierarchy among the senior royals did not go down well ...

I remember she was shocked that the hierarchy was also observed in private. Yet without the hierarchy you undermine all validity to the whole monarchy.

Monarchy is almost the absolute definition of hierarchy. Without hierarchy there would not be a monarchy.

Funny how someone who supposedly said "it's not my job to coddle people" seemed to want Catherine to go beyond her actual role to show her the ropes, aka coddle her

Private plane Harry promoting green travel?

SC is only having to speak out because the princes released their resignation statement to the press. She was appointed chair in Summer 2023 and referred the charity to the Charity Commission in March 2025. Yet another good move on her part - a decent period of time to observe and understand the operational teams and the board, reach her conclusions and assemble the evidence.

But that would be the fault of the trustees rather than Harry.

A problem for all of them if Harry overstepped his patron role and started acting like a de-facto trustee, but not following proper governance procedures. A problem also for the trustees if they allowed that to happen.

Yes I agree. This is a disaster of Harry's own making. I wouldn't expect in depth analysis from Marina but I thought it interesting she focused on the parallels and the Squad.

jeffgoldblum · 01/04/2025 15:25

i wasn’t keen on the marina Hyde article, I could see what she was going for , but in the attempt at pointing out clever similarities, instead of humour it came across as snide !

Private plane Harry promoting green travel?

Buried amongst on the BS in the Travalyst section on Aviation…:

”There is strong evidence to suggest that people want to travel more sustainably but don’t know how”.

Here’s one way: if you want to fly between the Los Angeles Area and Vancouver area then take a commercial flight alongside the great unwashed between LAX and YVR (Vancouver), rather than using a biz jet…

On this subject he’s a complete hypocrite.

Sorry if it's been posted but this today from Harry - Travelyst.

https://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-14558657/Prince-Harry-Sentebale-bullying-storm-Travalyst-initiative.html

I must admit if I were he in the midst of a controversy about a charity , I wouldn't necessarily be drawing attention to my green travelling initiative.

No neither would I !
he’s completely thick isn’t he? What’s next?
an article about African parks! 🙄

One of the white trustees comparing a black Zimbabwean (male or female) to the Ian Smith regime in Rhodesia (now Zimbabwe) is an appalling insult designed to wound, demean and infuriate.

As far as I can see it is one of 3 men and a matter of time until it becomes clear which of them is alleged to have said this and my main thought is what the Hell next?

That’s just awful. I have to say I am a bit disappointed at some of the negative comments I have heard from media commentators about Sophie. Imagine taking the side of a privileged white prince over an intelligent articulate black woman.

The charity has the worst of two worlds when it comes to Harry. On the one hand, he does what does what he likes without referring to the executive team eg taking a Netflix crew to a charity polo match, saying Meghan isn't coming then turning up with her. On the other, he is over-involved, giving orders to the Chair of trustees and being present at board meetings.

Catherine showing Meghan the ropes would be too much like Catherine being expected to serve Meghan when Catherine was significantly her senior being the wive of second in line to the throne whilst Meghan was the fiancé/wife of the fifth in line.

Catherine was pregnant for the engagement and on maternity leave for the first 6 months of the marriage. So odd that Meghan expected her to be at her beck and call and in this context Sophie Wessex made a lot more sense as she had been there a lot longer.

But I don't think Sophie fitted in with Meghan's plans to merch modernize the monarchy. She had the Sussex Royal website and shop ready to go and wanted to be pictured with "best buddy" Kate for PR purposes and to prove that she had RF influence.

It was cynical and hypocritical given that her Canadian, gossip blogger mates (Kaiser/Celebitchy/ Lainey Gossip) all relentlessly attacked "waity Katy" as "workshy" for taking maternity leave. I don't think Meghan ever accepted that Kate was above her in the RF hierarchy and I think Meghan wanted to prove that she was the modern/fun Diana princess while standing next to "boring" "mumsy" Kate.

Yeah but everyone needs to understand that Meghan is the most important person at any gathering 🙄
