Love the idea about using the As ever keepsake box as a time capsule…..maybe Dr Sophie can keep all her receipts in it!

🙌🏼

Part two is even worse, if that’s possible @Onlyonekenobe (I agree, I cannot imagine a professional copywriter went anywhere near this)

Jesus Christ! 🤮

Butterscotch Angel Delight is a Proustian madeleine far superior to a pack of faux pancake mix.

Post if the day right here!

BemusedAmerican · 31/03/2025 18:10

Honestly, take a look at that J Peterman link. The joke was the catalog would show a basic cotton tee-shirt priced for 3x the average shirt but the copy would link you back to sitting in a cafe in Provence and watching MFK Fisher at a nearby table. After all these years, I still have friends who joke about the catalog copy. The mail bag one is legendary.

If Meghan watched Seinfeld, she would know J. Peterman.

There are basically two types of charities set up by the RF/other wealthy people.

One is to be a tax efficient way of giving money. It's great if you get trustees who are experts in whatever field you are interested in, but basically you give to whatever charitable causes interest you and don't get any benefit back, so can please yourself. The CAF charity account is much the same for those of us with less to give.

The other is to address a specific issue - as done by DofE awards, Kings/Princes Trust. There you need expertise, the role of the Founder is to bring the right people together, and bring in the initial funding then gradually step back and let it become sustainable due to its record of achievement.

It seems that Harry has been seeing Sentebale as model one, but expecting the kudos of model two.

In my world ( very limited) a time capsule needs to be shot into space or buried by Blue Peter. A jam keepsake box doesn't cut it. But I accept that reflects more badly on me. 😊

Blue Peter all the way for me. And butterscotch chemical delight.

And Ravels Bolero with ombre purple outfits

Oh sweet jesu. That's like the guff that fan clubs used to churn out to 12- and 13-year olds in the 1970s who all thought they were going to marry a Bay City Roller or become best friends with Marie Osmond.

This charity was set up in memory of his mother, now obviously we don't know what has gone on behind the scenes but if Sentebale really meant so much to Harry, I don't understand why he hasn't stayed to fight for what he believes in.

I also don’t understand why he never took Meghan there if the Charity meant so much to him .

In any case, it wasn't about the photo op in itself, but that SC was expected to contribute to the Sussex PR afterwards.

As patron with the charity's chair of trustees in a public place in front of cameras, part of Harry's job was to be respectful and courteous to SC. Given his Royal upbringing, such behaviour should be second nature to him.

Has 'there are two sides to every story' been added to the Bingo card? Must be the most used phrase on MN in the past 24 hours. Time for a new script, perhaps.

It's interesting that they're using that phrase.

When I was being bullied at work this was used by the people who knew what was happening, but really wanted it to be covered up to make it easier for them, when anyone spoke up for me.

Only thing was the bullies were going round giving their side, which was 90% direct lies and 10% of totally twisted truth, so everyone knew their side. It was my side that hadn't been heard - but it gave the impression the other way.

Exactly.
I don't know if anyone else has watched the full Sky interview with Dr kelello lerotholi? I did but no idea where. I can only find the 38 sec clip that's being touted around saying I saw nothing in any of the meetings I attended . But the full clip was very interesting. Dr K spoke only about emotions and vague hints about monetary concerns. I was none the wiser as to why he and fellow trustees resigned. He talked about being with PH and PS right at the beginning (open house, rugby world cup on the big tv ..). He made such a big deal about the name and how it could only be relevant to the founders and their mothers etc. He demonstrated precisely what SC was saying. It wasn't viewed as charity which needed to adhere to governance or best practice or change with the times etc. ZHe was rightly proud of the charity and the impetus from the founders but he was effectively saying it can't be run by anyone else for emotional reasons.

IdaGlossop · 31/03/2025 18:35

'This is our week at As ever.' That's Meghan's latest Insta post, along with a cheerful photo of her sitting at a table in her garden with beagle Mia. Is it my imagination, or does this have a triumphalist tone?

I loved Mr Peterman and now I can only pronounce it "Mee-an-mar".

Hmm I don’t think the others “capitulated” - they fell in line as trustees of a charity and no doubt handpicked by Haz himself. It has been pointed out that UK advertising chief Johnny Hornby stepped down in 2023 as chairman just before the annual report was published. A very strange and unusual step to make in terms of timing. It speaks strongly of a cover up of some nature. And johnny has too much to lose to be woven into some scandal. It is clear that he did not want his name on a financial documents that he would be responsible for reporting. Or else he would have waited until a slightly later date.

I think there is plenty of historic muck there and I imagine that SC had her hands full in a compliance sense, going far beyond the allegations made that she has been forced into talking about to protect both organisation and her own reputation as a professional. This is career ending stuff and she has been scapegoated for sure. Haz and Megz don’t give a shit. Staff are entirely disposable and there to do their bidding. I imagine the other trustees (men no doubt) were under pressure and didn’t have the balls she does.

The polo situation is stupid. It reeks of their stupidity and self interest and a lack of respect for the charity and SC who was there to GIVE the award not duck out the way like an irritation. I would have been furious and I think she was right to stand her ground and not enter into pathetic press statements. Honestly it is so telling that she was even ASKED. There should have been an apology and some humility on reflection by Haz frankly. He should know better. She doesn’t.

Bruisername · 31/03/2025 18:43

Well this is all very interesting. I’m not a fan of MM but all her complaints about the RF I always thought stemmed from the fact Harry was unhelpful. He seemed to think she should know what to do at all times and then was shocked someone else hadn’t told her

and the way he was impressed that she was happy to wee in the bush when on safari. I doubt very much that chelsy Davy had porters carrying a porta potty around for her. It’s kind of what happens - no matter how luxury the safari

How many time capsules or love note receptacles does anyone need?
Once you've repurposed one or two (max) awkwardly shaped cardboard boxes, any more are just fancy recycled rubbish.
