Commissionable links- means when a potential customer clicks on the link, it's attributed to the affiliate, allowing the brand to record the source of the traffic. If someone buys a product using an affiliate link, the brand will pay the affiliate marketer commission on the sale

But she’s not an influencer?

This is really sad actually.

Did you get this upset when Peter Philips did that milk advert in China? Apparenrlt in that he introduces himself as Peter Philips, a member of the royal family. And then talks about spending time with his grandmother (ie, QE2).

Now THAT is milking royal connections.....

Eh…..he doesn’t have a royal title?

The problem with the 'celebrity route' is that she really doesn't have a role or any obvious skills outside of being married to the 5th in line.

I believe she could be a fairly successful influencer, not top tier but making a reasonable amount of money. However I'm not sure she can make enough for their outgoings which leaves her with a problem.

CatsChin · 24/03/2025 17:18

AtIusvue · 24/03/2025 17:16

Eh…..he doesn’t have a royal title?

So... you're upset that this celebrity "might" have reneged on a non-legal informal agreement that she and her spouse "might" have made in a "summit" that is not in the public record?

And you think this is 'really sad' and the 'royal family should step in'?

Do you not see how unhinged this all is?

Thanks for telling us you don't care about the royals, but you forget to include the fact that you just happened to come across this thread while making the tea.

I meant I don't care as in I don't get worked up when they do stuff (well, except Andrew - he's clearly a plonker!). But I am aware of their broad activities, int he same way I follow what's happening in British politics and also in arts and entertainment.

I find I DO care when people are really aggressive and unpleasant about a woman who lives on the other side of the planet, who is not representing the royal family and who is making a living in a fairly normal way for a certain type of American celebrity/actor. I also care when people state as fact things that simply aren't true.

Find me a single statement made by the royal family, anywwhere, that says Harry and Meghan cannot use their titles for commercial gain. I'd be interested also, in the opposite of that - ie the list if activities for which the use of their titles is OK. So many random people seem to think they know when it is and is not okay, but show me a page in Debretts, or a news release on the royal website or a news report in which a formal statement has been made. Please. I'll happily chnage my view if that's the case.

AtIusvue · 24/03/2025 17:18

Meg doesn’t believe she is an influencer though……she’s told us when she was selling her story to People magazine about her new show and Instagram account which is selling her new products to people …..that’s a female founder apparently.

MrsLeonFarrell · 24/03/2025 17:20

I suspect whether or not she has permission to use her title commercially will be a non issue. I can't see the Royal family making a big song and dance about it. They haven't been working royals for 5 years. The working members of the family have moved on and there isn't any benefit to reopening that can of worms.

Vespanest · 24/03/2025 17:21

I can't imagine there being agreement to use the duke/Duchess of Sussex when they were not allowed to use Sussex Royal. It's really doesn't matter as whatever was or wasn't agreed was done when the Queen was alive and a really can't see Charles wanting anything to do with this. I do wonder if the palace did get wind of this with the announcement that Catherine was no longer going to give details of what she wore at engagements.

MattCauthon · 24/03/2025 17:21

AtIusvue · 24/03/2025 17:19

Really aggressive?

No, you're right. Your posts have been really kind and lovely and it's clear you're just concerned about the perception for Charles and the gang.

Please. You clearly can't stand the woman. She could be pictured pointing at the sky and saying it's blue and you'd be outraged.

Is this on As Ever? Or Archewell? Link please!

ChardonnaysBeastlyCat · 24/03/2025 17:23

I'm waiting for the Balmoral Slippers.

Might need to save up.

AtIusvue · 24/03/2025 17:23

I’m sorry, but this is just so embarrassing.

Harry never once in his engagement interview referred her to her as an influencer….he seemed to think they were going to change the world. Everybody else could see she was seeking a platform for herself, but he didn’t.

Now look, she’s on instagram touting for commission.

What is embarrassing? That's she's working?

I thought everyone wanted them to be working?

What do you want her to do? Sign up to empty the bins in Swindon?

She’s hawking her title to sell beige clothes for commission.

She isn’t allowed to use the Royal dukedom for commercial gain. That fact seems to have escaped many posters.

Call herself Meghan- fine. But she’s just exactly where she was 10 years ago …..a basic influencer. Even though she denies that she is!

Exactly! I don’t know why posters don’t understand this ! Either they are trying to not understand or they are not from the U.K. .
and if she’d just used her name there would be no issues, I’d even think well done 👏.
but this just isn’t allowed and for those who think this is a “Meghan “ thing no , no U.K. royal is allowed to do this , that’s why there was uproar about Andrew and his dodgy dealings, using his title and position to grift money for his personal gain.
royals are allowed to make money but they never use their titles to do so.

In Megs world it’s a big difference. Why…because even she realises what a comedown that is. Royal Duchess…..to influencer. No different to any other reality tv star who now hawks stuff on insta.

Why is anyone surprised at this development ? The Kardashians have a site where they sell their second hand clothes and where female celebrities get their outfits from is a very common question on social media. She has to have as many income streams as possible as Harry is no longer the one earning the big bucks and while it won’t support their lifestyle, it’s something.
Not unreasonable to laugh that she picked Windsor as one of her pieces (is there a Sussex?) and that she picked the very colours that she claimed that she was forced to wear as a working royal. That’s oh so typical for her and will get her lots of social media mentions from her “haters”
I thought that there was already a clothing brand in NY called As Ever? Is it copyright infringement for Meghan to also sell clothes ?

Yes it was pretty obvious from the moment they left that at some point they would be moving into the commercial field. You simply can't make large sums of money wandering around foreign countries shaking hands.

In some ways I admire Meghan's grit. She keeps going, doesn't get discouraged by failure and tried lots of things to make money.

Harry in contrast is useless, unless you count the money he gets for doing whatever it is be does at Better up.

YourLuckyPearlGoose · 24/03/2025 17:28

Not an influencer? 2.6m followers on Instagram, the Daily Mail follows her every move and a new series on Netflix and people love to talk about her (this thread is a case in point).

Meghan’s hot commercial property for a brand partnership. I don’t particularly like her, but they get no money from the civil list or royal family and have to make their own way like the rest of us.

Who cares if she’s flogging dresses now?

Can you tell us what royal U.K. title Peter Phillips used in the milk advert?
because you obviously don’t understand the issue if you don’t understand the difference.

This stumbling across these threads whilst making the tea does seem a fan favourite of late, I’m worried they burn said dinner whilst writing lengthy posts defending someone they apparently have no interest in.

AtIusvue · 24/03/2025 16:58

Eh….because she has her Royal title right next to the part that says she gets paid commission.

It’s shameless and against what they had agreed, Which was not to use the Royal dukedom for commercial gain.

In the interest of making sure its actually correct, her title isn't right next to it. It's above it as tha lt is how a profile name is always presented. 💁‍♀️
