Markle's logo is similar to the logo on the back of the crew jackets for Madonna's Blond Ambition tour.

Is there anything original about this woman?

Her writing is striking but is absolutely not "calligraphy".
I once spent an interesting morning watching a family member, who does actual calligraphy, produce placecards for her sister's wedding reception and it's a real art.
Meghan's version is nice, neat, angular handwriting to which she's then added swoops of ink.
It does look good superficially though and maybe this is the sort of thing she could show people how to do on WLM.
I've not seen handwriting gussied up like this before and it would give a slightly fancy, "calligraphy-lite" appearance to invitations etc
That would fit in with the "elevating" ethos and be an easy shortcut.

It looks from the timing that People magazine broke this

https://people.com/meghan-markle-claps-back-with-witty-handwritten-note-to-podcaster-amanda-hirsch-11700206

I wouldn't describe it as witty. I agree this is some weird clap back. Also the calligraphy is just too much.

I never think of Meghan as having a sense of humour so don’t see her as being witty but the note has a strange vibe .

It’s of no surprise that all of a sudden, 4 posters in a short space of time, descended onto the thread to tell everyone that they have hurty feeling for a woman they don’t know.

Hi Meghan stans 👋

Alright, I'll bite. I've been on MN for 17 years (albeit NC regularly because I live in an area with loads of MNetters and I prefer not to build up too much of a profile if I'm asking about SEND stuff related to my DD or other stuff that might make me recognisable). I'm late 40s.

Sometimes (usually when I'm avoiding something I ought to be doing) I'll scroll mumsnet and randomly click on active threads if the title piques my interest. That's how I found this thread.

I couldn't give a toss about the RF really. I'm not a committed republican either, I just don't feel any sense of reverence towards, or interest in, the RF - other than the late Queen who I had a lot of respect for.

As I said in my first post, I don't feel strongly about MM so I have no reason to start a 'positive thread' about her. I've seen the headlines and know broadly speaking she and harry have claimed e.g. in relation to media intrusion, and what others have claimed about them. I've never watched her show. It's definitely not my kind of thing and I suspect I'd find it a bit ridiculous. I haven't watched any of the interviews/exposés, read any of the books etc either. From the headlines, Harry strikes me as a bit of a wet lettuce but, again, I don't feel that strongly about him.

I'm not a fan of people gushing on social media, or of the influencer culture of opening up your personal life for entertainment either. But many, many people do it and I can't think of any others that get this kind of response.

So, coming on here and seeing how obsessed people are with finding fault with MM does make me think what she says about the hate directed at her must be true. It just makes no sense otherwise, it's totally disproportionate.

That's it. I'll leave you to bitch about her now. But, for what it's worth, it makes me wish her well, having not given a monkeys before.

You don’t feel strongly about Meghan but you have written seven paragraphs about how much you don’t care and said that what we do is ‘bitch’ ?

Sure…….

@MarchHare339and @frillygillymilly
I am sorry to ask you. You appear to be supporters of Meghan. I am really curious about Meghan branding herself with the crown perhaps you might read my other posts? She seems to want to be royal. Is she after becoming American royalty? Trump is clearly wanting to be ‘King’ and he has named his son as his successor. Trump has suggested there will be no more elections. I don’t follow these threads but I am really surprised that Meghan wants to associate herself with a crown and she clearly sees herself as royalty.
Would you like to see her as American royalty? Do you support her using a monogrammed crown? Do you think America under Trump is embracing the idea of American royalty?

I’m obviously not a Meghan supporter , no.

It's definitely not witty, imo, as I see wit as being clever as well as funny.
This is more a kind of pseudo-naive form of humour: ooh, you said that you're scared so I'll pretend to take that literally.
It may have been meant "playfully" but it's also obviously very calculated and meant to be put into the public arena.
I would presume the recipient was chosen carefully and was felt to be likely to reply in gushing favourable terms.

Absolutely.

I don’t know much about the subject, but I do know you need special calligraphy pens and it’s all about the pressure ..to open the nib, letting the ink flow and releasing pressure for thins lines etc.

I used a calligrapher years ago to write all the addresses on my wedding invitations- the most beautiful writing you’ve ever seen. He even added wheat sheaf flourishes. Cost me fortune but it was bloody beautiful.

Megs is just fancy handwriting. It’s not calligraphy.

MarchHare339 · 21/03/2025 09:48

Her writing mirrors her personality. All style and no substance.

Hitherzither · 21/03/2025 09:51

I am really sorry @MarchHare339. I haven’t read the whole thread. I am really interested in the idea of Meghan embracing the notion of royalty with the monogrammed crown. The Trumpian America seems to be heading towards ‘King’ Trump.
Is the new America wanting Royalty instead of an elected Head of State?
Do Meghan’s supporters want to see her and Harry as American royalty?

LivelyMintViper · 21/03/2025 09:52

The CEO of Netflix is very positive about her and her programmes. So unless his family are being held hostage somewhere maybe we are missing something?

I have no time for bullying either . One of the reasons I don’t like Meghan !

Hopefully you don’t post obsessively and negatively about her then because people who are persistently making negative comments about another person are bullying. Meghan bullying others doesn’t justify others bullying. It’s not how decent people behave.

Still catching up with the thread, but I'm getting very much

"Leave Britney Meghan Alone!"

Anyone pro-Meghan care to comment on the numerous, substantiated, credible accusations of bullying and harassing her staff across 2 continents? Or is Meghan ways just the victim?

Hitherzither · 21/03/2025 10:02

No one is going to answer my question Sad. Trump is busy suggesting Canada become a State of the USA and King Charles role should be abolished as Head of State for Canada. This linking of the crown with Meghan makes me wonder if her supporters see her as American Royalty under the new Trumpian America.
Is that what her supporters want? I used to think her supporters by and large were republicans and against a royal family. I wonder if they are actually pro American royalty.

If Meghan has bullied others then that isn’t acceptable and she is a horrible person to do that. It still doesn’t justify others bullying and it definitely doesn’t make the high numbers of people’s negative posts any less weird. Spending hours a day picking over everything another person does, suggesting things like ‘serial killer vibes’, persistently making sarcastic comments about them, saying horrible things about their looks etc is not the behaviour of a normal adult and nothing will convince me it is. As a pp said, mumsnet hosting this is disappointing.

BasiliskStare · 21/03/2025 10:16

@Astr0zombie "Meghan Markle could donate a billion pounds to a children’s charity and people would be on here shouting ‘She’s insincere!! She hates kids and eats them! This is just so she can buy more children to eat!’.

Poppycock.

I mean it’s comical.

And you are persistently telling others how they should post, how they should be commenting on the handwriting, what sort of post they should be doing and most importantly, how they are not allowed to post in disagreement or call out the blatant incessant dragging down of Meghan.

Look at the 7,000 posts on her NF series (7 threads). If you think they all stayed on the subject, you are seriously misguided.

Calling others out for bullying isn’t wrong, we should all do that. If Meghan has bullied others then she should be called out for that, but to persistently make sarcastic comments about jam or her looks and pick apart everything she ever does for the rest of time, that’s bullying.

CathyorClaire · 21/03/2025 10:23

I genuinely don't understand what is so fascinating about them tbh

I think it's the way they lurch seamlessly from one self-inflicted PR disaster to another without ever seeming to pause and reflect either on past experience or whether the current notion of the day is sound.

IMO there are going to be media classes dissecting their tactics at some point if there aren't already.

Share your positive opinions….thats if you all actually have any!!! Because all that happens, is the constant cycle of - it’s bullying, so much hate …… Why not share some Meghan joy! Why not talk about her fashion, recipes etc.

That's been done. over the years posters have tried but have got shouted down and attacked because of what they have said. Some posters just cannot stand to read anything positive about her.
I once said on a thread 'that dress looks good on her, it suits her'. Or something similar. There then followed god knows how many posts disagreeing, No the dress looks awful, look at the way she's wearing it, the colour doesn't suit her, and so on. Followed by snarky comments to me on a personal level.

You've obviously never been on Style and Beauty - that's par for the course.
