Is there anything original about this woman?

This is a a bit of interesting background to the 'Wild about Harry" Vanity Fair story, the ex editor of Vanity Fair had this to say.

"One of his last Vanity Fair covers before he stepped down in late 2017 was Meghan Markle.

Jane Sarkin, who booked our covers, came in and said, ‘We should do a cover on Meghan Markle,'” Carter told the Post. “I said, ‘I have no idea who that is.’
She said, ‘She’s on ‘Suits.’ I said, ‘I have no idea what that is, why should we do a story on her?’ So she said, ‘Because she’s going to marry Prince Harry.'”

Carter laughs remembering how, at one point during the interview, Markle challenged the reporter: “Excuse me, Is this going to all be about Prince Harry? Because I thought we were going to be talking about my charities and my philanthropy.”

Raising his eyebrows, Carter said of Markle, “This woman is slightly adrift on the facts and reality.”

This is so funny, it encapsulates why so many people dislike her, very few people knew her before she met Harry, she gets a Vanity Fair cover because of Harry and gets pissed off at the idea it wasn't all about her.

I think her legacy in terms of statues or memorials has been quite poor and let’s say I think the current main players in the RF have done quite a bit to either erase her from memory, or besmirch her reputation.
So it would be refreshing to see a documentary made about her from the perspective of someone who wasn’t trying to do either of those things.

I disagree with this - perhaps not surprising! - but I thought it worth listing the memorials to Diana in various forms since her death that the Royal Family has sanctioned.

The very visible ones, all in Hyde Park/Kensington Palace Gardens which are Royal Parks and who therefore needed Palace consent for their on plans:

Diana Memorial Fountain (the first memorial and opened by QEII with Charles, William and Harry also there)
Diana Memorial Playground
Diana Memorial Walk
Diana Memorial Garden
Diana Memorial Statue

In Kensington Palace, Diana’s former home, a special wallpaper was commissioned to be used in the public areas, featuring pictures from Diana’s life. The annual exhibitions there have almost always featured Diana in some way or another: “Diana: her fashion story” was featured for many years, they have also had “Diana: glimpses of a modern princess”, and they have exhibited her wedding dress before and they generally items from her clothing collection on display.

Then there’s the more subtle: Kate has been lent several pieces of jewellery that were very associated with her late mother in law, most obviously the Cambridge Lover’s Knot tiara and Queen Mary’s emerald choker. Harry and William spoke to the BBC for their documentary to mark Diana’s death.

I’m not sure what else you are looking for in terms of royal family-supported memorials? Because I think the above demonstrates that the current “main layers” in the Royal family were very sensitive to the importance of respecting her memory and the public’s interest in her.

All very true! I think the RF has been very respectful of Diana and mindful of her significance as the boys' mother, particularly the future king.

I went to an exhibition a few years back, "Royal Style in the Making" (I have the fridge magnet to prove it!!) and Diana's wedding dress was on display. I couldn't take my eyes off it!

I don't know what some people expect! She brought more than her fair share of scandal to the RF too, and was a major contributor to the late Queen's "annus horribilis"!

@Thedom. I recall those comments from Graydon Carter too. ! The other thing was that VF ( who I believe are very hot on fact checking ) could find no verifiable evidence for many of her claims. Which is why I am inclined to believe their American Hustle article.

More specifically in the 2017 VF piece MM wanted to be celebrated as a global ‘activist and philanthropist’. However Vanity Fair’s meticulous fact-checkers could not find any evidence of her activism and philanthropy, so any references to her claims were dropped - which allegedly sparked one of her legendary narc rages.....'slightly adrift on the facts and reality indeed'.

Yes, I remember reading that, they didn't report some of her claims, in particular the dishwasher story, so didn't report it. He has written a memoir which is being published next week, so he is doing the rounds of promotional interviews.

The comment I posted up above is from a recent interview he gave to Page Six. He also called H&M 'chancers' who are on the make in a NY Times article and said Princess Diana would be horrified at Meghan's As Ever.

He has some funny anecdotes about Trump, who he has been feuding with for years.
