Prue Leith on Meghan Marble

I just saw this article about Prue Leith's pronouncement on Markle's new programme, which she says she would never watch. She says that she isn't a Markle fan because of all the "touchy feeliness" and talk about what creams you put on your hands. She says life is too short to think about what people think of you. Prue Leith is around 80 years old (?) is alway impeccably and colourfully dressed, her hair just so, her skin is lovely, she is always talking about food that is or isn't "worth the calories" - all of which which suggests that she very much cares what people think of her and that she takes a lot of time with her own appearance even though she is much older than Meghan who I would argue - as I would for all young women - that they should enjoy and relish their youth and beauty and make the most of it while it lasts.

My question however is about why Leith found it so easy to make this comment in public. I can't imagine her judging another celebrity so publicly and forcefully. So what makes Meghan different to the others? What makes Leith so incensed that she had to be so negative about her in a TV interview? I am sure that Meghan is not the only touchy feely, hand moisturising celebrity on the planet.

Aside from your feelings about her estrangement from the royal family which has been discussed ad nauseam what legitimate reason is there for treating her like that?

Right, so you commented about her without knowing how much she’s achieved in her professional life and how accomplished she is at what she does. And how much she is in the public eye. That she doesn’t need help from anyone to up her celebrity.

I wonder why some people think that saying they have never heard of a high profile person makes them look clever. Very strange. As Richard Osman (ex TV executive, crime writer and quiz show host) said, it’s like those tedious people who respond to the Glastonbury line up with “Who?”

Incidentally, anyone who has watched the news over the past few months will have seen Prue Leith-she spoke very movingly and knowledgeably about assisted dying.

As I have been on here for quite a number of years , I make a note of posters names and they have stated they are poc !
if you think they are not that’s a you issue!
and I’m certainly not going to compile a list of posters names and their ethnicity, it would be terribly disrespectful and against guidelines!

I would also question exactly why you think the default setting of posters on mn is “white “!

This is the kind of thing that we hear about in the press - people put on " lists" of people who are "against mm " because they have commented negatively about them eg the chef was another recent one. It's a scary thing to see this outed in public.

Here we go - the same old lazy reason. It's nothing to do with what she has done or what she has lied about. It's just because of her colour. Weak argument.

I think Meghan is not a standard celebrity - regardless of her past acting career alot of her fame is due to association with Harry/the royal family.

I have never hidden the fact that I'm a POC when posting here. But you are correct, there's been a consistent, racist assumption by MM supporters that people like me don't exist on this board.

Well that's a rather confusing statement but your main point was that 90% of her criticism is because of her colour. As I said a lazy argument designed as @jeffgoldblum said to counter any criticism.

Oh, and I was at Silverstone last year when Lewis Hamilton won (my kids are F1 mad). All of the (mostly white) spectators whom certain liberal commentators would dismiss as "gammon" were absolutely ecstatic. Considering what a mud bath it was, Hamilton winning turned the whole thing into a party.

AS I said above, @glitterturd it's the false dichotomy that was established by H&M right at the outset of their relationship being made public to shut down any criticism: either you love MM and everything she does unreservedly, or you are a racist.

I have witnessed this many times, with many posters, and even seen poc posters interrogated and called liars!
and I find it interesting that it’s assumed that I’m “white” !
I am in this case , but it really should not matter in this day and age , posters should not have to “out” themselves on a gossip forum to make their opinions have more relevance than others.

@jeffgoldblumits so bizarre on here - you even see people posting saying " my son in law is Asian" or " my daughter in law is biracial" as if that elevates their opinions. It is in fact the opposite and is a well known posture that is ridiculed in many cases .

Prue was at the top of her game way back in the late 60’s and it’s been uphill all the way since then. She hasn’t needed any help getting to where she is today and certainly not from the Queen.

Meghan has worked her way up to where she is by doing a variety of things that I am sure went against her feminist ideas eg the famous letter re dish washing yet she went on to bbq in underwear sucking suggestively on a piece of meat and cleaning a house in a maid's skimpy outfit. She's sat on old men's knees when needed and has taken a part where she is the girl giving sex in a car . Now whether this shows determination or a desire for fame over principles I have no idea. It wasn't long before Harry that she was still going for gold. Yes her position was elevated by marrying Harry.

Not that Prue did anything like the above. Her reply was very diplomatic and was very obviously her own thoughts.

I had heard of Prue Leith by the way. Even before she took over on Bakeoff I had vaguely heard of her - for what it's worth (absolutely nothing).

I didn't see that, but there are so many ways of getting the news these days that I probably didn't happen to catch he particular news item that you saw on that particular day.
