In penance you must make bath salts 😁

I wonder if she's heard of Pippa Middleton's book on hosting, or knows about the lampooning it received. #pippatips

It was lampoonable drivel and only an opportunity due to her royal sister - but at least she had some skin in the game and experience via her family party business.

As Flanders and Swann put it "I'm ecstatic about my eye-level grill. It means that without my having to bend down, hot fat can squirt straight in my eye."

I think that is from the song "Design for living" which has hot tips such as:
"Have you a home that cries out to your visitors: 'Here lives somebody who is Exciting to Know!' No?
So why not save those little metal bottle tops and nail them upside down to the floor. This will give the sensation of... walking on little metal bottle tops nailed upside down to the floor."

For god's sake, don't give Meghan ideas!

Yes, I remember having a great laugh about it at the time.

It was also 13 years ago, when this sort of thing didn't seem quite as naff as it does now. One of the many problems with Meghan's lifestyle shtick is that it's just so out of tune with the times.

KatherineParr · 14/03/2025 19:59

I bought PippaTips for £6.25 from WHSmith when it failed to shift the copies. I got it down off the shelf the other day and I will say it was much better than the first episode of WLM.

For god's sake, don't give Meghan ideas!

I've just looked up the lyrics. I think Netflix should have used this as the introduction music. It's perfect:

"When we started making money
When we started making friends
We found a home as soon as we were able to
We bought this bijou residence for about a thousand more
Than the house our little house was once the stable to
With charm, and colour values, wit, and structural alteration
Now designed for graceful living, it has quite a reputation

We're terribly House and Garden
At Number Seven B
We live in a most amusing mews
Ever so very Contemporary!
We're terribly House and Garden;
The money that one spends
To make a place that won't disgrace
Our House and Garden friends!

We planned an uninhibited interior décor
Curtains made of straw
We've wall-papered the floor!
We don't know if we like it, but at least we can be sure
There's no place like home sweet home

It's fearfully Maison Jardin
At Number Seven B
We've rediscovered the Chandelier
Très très very Contemporary!
We're terribly House and Garden
Now at last we've got the chance
The garden's full of furniture
And the house is full of plants!

It doesn't make for comfort
But it simply has to be;
'Cos we're ever so terribly up to date
Contemporary!

(spoken) Have you a home that cries out to your every visitor: 'Here lives somebody who is Exciting to Know!' No? Well…

Why not...
Collect those little metal bottle-tops and nail them upside down to the floor? This will give a sensation of walking on little metal bottle-tops, turned upside down

Why not...
Get hold of an ordinary Northumbrian spokeshaver's coracle, paint it in contrasting stripes of say Telephone Black and White-White, and hang it up in the hall for a guitar-tidy for parties?

(Why not...
Keep, on some convenient shelving, a little cluster of clocks; one for each member of the family, each an individual colour? I like to keep mine twenty minutes fast, don't you?)

Why not...
Drop in one evening for a mess of pottage? Our speciality
Just aubergine and carnation petals, with a six-shilling bottle of Mule du Pape, a feast fit for a king!

I'm delirious about our new cooker fitment with the eye-level grill. This means without my having to bend down the hot fat can squirt straight into my eye!

We're frightfully House and Garden
At Number Seven B
The walls are patterned with shrunken heads
Ever so very Contemporary!
Our boudoir on the open plan
Has been a huge success
Now everywhere’s so open there’s nowhere safe to dress

(Our search for self-expression
Leaves us barely time for meals;
One day we're taking Liberty's in
The next we're down at Heal’s!)

With little screens and bottle lamps and motifs here and there
Mobiles in the air, Ivy everywhere
You mustn't be surprised to meet a cactus in the stair
But we call it home sweet home

We're terribly House and Garden
As I think we said before
But though Seven B is madly gay -
It wouldn't do for every day -
We actually live in Seven A
In the house next door!"

I believe she’s suffering the same delusion as Harry!
they both think that they are entitled and people will just give them money for who they are!

@jeffgoldblum - but to be fair - thus far - people have !

It’s a year since American Riviera Orchard ( remember that?) was launched followed by a few pots of jam but nothing to buy.
A year later it is relaunched with a different name but still no products available to buy .
I assume Meghan has access to advisers ? Where are they ?
Now she is to host a podcast as a Founder despite not really having a business ! 🤷‍♀️

"Founder" has a second meaning.

ThePoshUns · 14/03/2025 21:21

Flounder more like

glitterturd · 14/03/2025 23:01

@Rhaidimiddim yes ships and yachts founder don't they?

Plus I think urban dictionary has had a rewrite especially for Meghan 😂

MidnightTales · 15/03/2025 00:57

Her patent lawyers must be terrible; or else ARO was just rushed through regardless. It
does come across as amateurish (and I am still laughing out loud when I think of the 18th century woman in the shadows and the swinging door advert).

Either way it does seem strange that there is still nothing for sale. Not even one teaspoon 🍓.

She also took note of the response she was getting (probably got a lot of teasing at home as well) and pivoted to something else - stonkingly rich billionaire husband, yummy mummy life, sports psychology postgrad. What she didn't do is try to flog the dead fame horse for celebrity profile.

Someone posted about this on a thread not too long ago. They said that Pippa had been inundated with offers post the wedding and that she chose to do the book and the Waitrose magazine column with her eyes open. I mean if everyone is throwing money at you and you can do something that won't negatively affect your sister why not take it? Harry and Meghan's mistake was what they took the money for.

Yes none of Catherine’s family have done anything to cause her embarrassment. They are really the model family apart from maybe Uncle Gary.

Edited

I bet the Middletons have really had to bite their tongues a few times over the years especially during the “ where’s Kate “ months. And doesn’t everyone have a slightly embarrassing relative ( looking at you DB) ?
Just waiting for someone to come along and slate Party Pieces ….

MaturingCheeseball · 15/03/2025 09:13

Briefly back to eye-level grills… dm was so proud of our Parkinson Cowan oven. A little while ago I stayed in a holiday chalet which was in a time warp (and not a trendy retro one!) and there was the very same oven. That grill made stonkingly good toast and the gas (had to lean in with a taper Shock ) took me right back to my 70s childhood.

JSMill · 15/03/2025 09:53

@Mylovelygreendress Party Pieces was a good little company. They would send their catalogue about a month before DCs’ birthdays, which was a nice reminder to start planning. I tried to keep buying from them because they were a fairly local, family owned business. However they just couldn’t compete with Amazon which was selling many of the same things but with fast, free delivery. Of course the papers couldn’t resist giving them a good kicking when they folded.

Plus the pandemic did for a lot of small businesses. I never really understood the kicking they got for protecting themselves in exactly the same way as any other small business owner.

Usually it's people who don't understand even the basics of company and insolvency law.

Good for them. Their use of a capital E makes me so happy. It just looks better.

  1. Animal rights activist. Something about chickens, I vaguely remember, though it’s a bit of a blur. That said, the only truly positive story I remember reading about her in Tom Bowles’ book was her alleged fury at seeing a parrot in a cage in a windowless hotel corridor and demanding to move to a different (expensive) hotel as a result. Kudos to her, if that story is true.

Sorry I’m only at 11th March, but had to stop and say how unimpressed I am if that’s true. I’d have been advocating for the parrot to be moved. Moved to an enclosure where it could at least fly, not demanding to move myself so it was out of sight, out of mind.

RevolutionaryMode · 16/03/2025 23:45

I don’t consider Tom Bower to be an even remotely unbiased source in regards to Meghan.

He clearly doesn’t like her, no - but that doesn’t mean what he says isn’t true.

funnily enough no lawsuit against him, from a notoriously litigious couple. You’d expect them to sue if anything he claimed was untrue.
