If anyone watches Twin Talk, they have posted an extract from a podcast by Meghan's fellow Netflix star, the comedian Tim Dillon, who is about to drop his third Netflix special. His observations on MM are brutal, but I think there's some truth there - comics can be great observers of human nature. Basically he thinks MM is driven by hate, that she actually hates all these "friends" and the audience, and, well, everyone; that's why all the criticism she gets bounces off her. Because she hates us all anyway and when her hate meets our (what she perceives as) "hate" (ie justified criticism), it refracts. It doesn't touch her at all. Nothing does, which is why she keeps going when others would crumble. It's an interesting theory. And could account for the hostile feelings people have picked up from MM's demeanour in the show.

How does anyone know the criticism does bounce off? Surely saying it all bounces off is just excusing everyone for the continual bashing.

I tried Vanessa's sellotape hack with some droopy tulips, and it worked quite well!

I was more thinking of her folding a piece back which she presented to us as a surely miraculous idea!

(The cross cross thing lost me a bit tbh but I suppose in such circumstances it could have it’s uses, though might look a bit odd if you could see it.

BasiliskStare · 14/03/2025 11:34

@jeffgoldblum - Thank you for that invaluable life hack . No airfryer here ,sadly. It falls into the nowhere to put it category in my little house. My lovely neighbours have one. Perhaps next time they are away they'd let me use it to make a batch in return for watering the plants . However a quick google has shown lots of ways of dehydrating fruit in the oven - so if I need some - I'm good to go. 😀

To continue the narcissism theme, I doubt she likes the criticism, it may even sting a bit - but nevertheless all attention is attention after all, along the lines of all publicity is good publicity for some people. It’s all “fuel” and people are talking about her and watching her (as indeed we are here) which is very important to her, so she can take it, for the most part anyway. Plus, everybody else is wrong and it’s all their fault aspect so a lot of it will just boomerang off her; the Teflon coat aspect. For Harry, his Teflon coat may be for more straightforward reasons eg. because he’s just rather dim and arrogant/self centred?

MidnightTales · 14/03/2025 09:49

“Why for the love of God doesn't she understand she needs to do the thing first instead of just self identifying?”

Good question. The psychological reason would be that narcissists are imitators at core. They copy other peoples characteristics and attributes, claiming them as their own. They cannot be an “authentic self” I suppose because they don’t really have one. This explains the multiple dizzying identities - that don’t come out of an inner complexity - but more of a fast-moving conveyer belt of different superficial identities and roles; remember her chosen career was an “actress”…

Edited

I’d been married for a very long time before I realised my husband had spent a lifetime learning how to be by imitating other people. I still don’t know whether he is on the spectrum, very high functioning, or if he’s a narcissist (or worse). He could even be both. Who knows?

MidnightTales · 14/03/2025 11:42

@Weepixie I have had the same feeling/dilemma re. a relative of mine.

He doesn't. It's his supposition based on his observations of her behaviour. But I will cross "bashing" off the bingo card. Do you mean justified criticism of a public and political figure relying on the goodwill of the public?

If you look at my posting history I am not Sussex squad, no where near so your bingo card is being used as a form of attack.

I would say that there is a lot of bashing and personal criticism that is excused because the perceived Teflon coating.

I would also say that their is a lot of justifiable criticism due to reprehensible or misguided actions and words that could have an impact on others and need to be called out.

I dislike it when the lines are blurred and feel that the media very often allow the bashing due to the genuine reasons for criticism.

But Meghan's whole 'brand' is based on her as a person. What credentials does she have in cooking or entrepreneurship for example? So when she makes herself into a commodity, then of course some criticism will be 'personal'.

Anyway, nobody gets to gatekeep what is 'justifiable criticism' and what is 'bashing'.

The sellotape 🤣🤣

"Certain kind of suction" 🤣🤣🤣

MrsLeonFarrell · 14/03/2025 13:39

The thing Meghan needs me than anything is patience. If she got her business off the ground and spent five years building it up, then she had something to contribute to a podcast about female founders. As it is she is assuming expertise comes simply through being, As Ever.

I’m short of space too @BasiliskStare, which is a real pain when you like a kitchen gadget like I do! 🤣
yes the oven will work too ! ( ive even proved bread in it!)
but the most important thing to remember if it’s a fan oven is to use another rack on top!!
nothing worse than discovering you’re reenacting the crystal maze with your banana slices! 🤣🤣

RecoIIectionsMayVary · 14/03/2025 14:06

To be fair , point. 4 . re the balloon arch does say put the tied ends of the balloons through the holes etc. I strive to be fair.

But that isn't how instructions work. If you follow the instructions all the air will be out of the balloon as soon as you move to point 3.

@RecoIIectionsMayVary Also a fair point and indeed a fair cop. A bit like saying , "now add your chicken pieces which have been marinading overnight. " which I am pretty sure I have fallen foul of in the dim and distant past.

@jeffgoldblum Ah but Jeff , behold my fanciness , on my oven you can switch off fan assisting. If I ever try it though I might still put a rack over the top as the crystal maze will be imprinted on my mind.

Not to mention pre soaking your beans…

Ohh fancy @BasiliskStare!! An elevated oven you say!! 🤣🤣 , all joking aside! , I’m crap with my oven!! It’s a hot point one that promises much but fails to deliver and stupidly has these silly knobs that you press in ( for cleaning , for looks🤷‍♀️) but the worst feature.. all the temperatures are on the knobs! Yes that’s right on the knobs particularly around the top ! On a built in double oven , I’m only 5ft2 I cannot actually see it ! 🙄 🤣🤣

Bless Florence, I think people had a lot of affection for her and she did bring a little happiness into their lives. She also had a dream, a passion, albeit one she was terrible at, whereas Meghan wants billions and global fame but clearly has no interests beyond that.

RecoIIectionsMayVary · 14/03/2025 15:32

@jeffgoldblum I too am not tall, and have a built in double oven. I asked the kitchen designer to put it lower than a normal double oven would sit. He was initially unhappy on aesthetic grounds , but I was unhappy his way on 'pulling out a roast chicken and all the hot fat spilling all over me because it was too tall' grounds. Anyway he managed to make it look pleasing lower down and I was not going to give in.
What Basilisk Wants Basilisk Gets. And I didn't even have to get my husband to say it for me.

(what a very pleasant meander 😊)

Very true! 😀

jeffgoldblum · 14/03/2025 15:42

Well done! @BasiliskStare👏, I managed ok with the old one that sensibly had the numbers on the oven around the knobs! , if I had my way I’d have a single one and the microwave above instead!!! But it was expensive and the man installing our kitchen was Sexist knob who didn’t listen and didn’t do the things I’d asked for!! My dh didn’t see my issues ( probably because he doesn’t cook !) any way back to the thread ! And thanks for elevating my oven comments! 😉🤣
