Well done! @BasiliskStare👏, I managed ok with the old one that sensibly had the numbers on the oven around the knobs! , if I had my way I’d have a single one and the microwave above instead!!! But it was expensive and the man installing our kitchen was Sexist knob who didn’t listen and didn’t do the things I’d asked for!! My dh didn’t see my issues ( probably because he doesn’t cook !) any way back to the thread ! And thanks for elevating my oven comments! 😉🤣

Just to tie in with Prue Leith, I have the bake off style slide-and-hide oven <smug> 😆. Have to say it’s an absolute game changer

I know what you mean! , no having a stupid door to open and close depending on top or bottom oven!

jeffgoldblum · 14/03/2025 16:22

Very jealous @smilesy! I wanted one with a door like that! But couldn’t afford it at the time! 😭 , my old one stopped working in the middle of …. Roasting a chicken!!!🤣🤣 and it was an emergency to get a new one quickly and at the end of the month when things were tight!!!

Vespanest · 14/03/2025 16:23

hes okay at giving negativity but cries on TV about how Meghan doesn't deserve negative press. Hypocrisy strong with this one.

Words · 14/03/2025 16:31

I had a slide and hide too. Really liked it. It still had the sticky out knobs though. I just left them sticking out like chapel hat pegs ( tips and tricks!)
I always craved to elevate to a dual oven to spread my culinary joy. Now I have moved and have inherited a range thing ( Stoves- avoid) and whereas the hobs an’ knobs are excellent the ovens are pants - unreliable and crappy. The non fan ( which I’d use most regularly ) is so tiny none of my dishes fit.

@RecoIIectionsMayVary you are right! Plus make sure size of balloons is consistent ? Any balloon arches I've seen pics of have them i balloons in various sizes 😂 can't believe I am even saying this 😂😂

The weird thing is that is WLM, she says to blow them up to different sizes. 🤷‍♀️

If you look at my posting history I am not Sussex squad, no where near so your bingo card is being used as a form of attack.

I would say that there is a lot of bashing and personal criticism that is excused because the perceived Teflon coating.

I would also say that their is a lot of justifiable criticism due to reprehensible or misguided actions and words that could have an impact on others and need to be called out.

I dislike it when the lines are blurred and feel that the media very often allow the bashing due to the genuine reasons for criticism.

She's a public and political figure. I'm assuming you don't take issue when other public and political figures who have displayed bad behaviour also receive personal criticism. Quite often the two things can't be separated, they are part of a continuum. Like Boris Johnson looking like a scruffy knob, behaving in his personal life like an arrogant, irresponsible prick, and making gaff after political gaff because he doesn't care what people think. All parts forming the whole of the political entity called Boris. Similarly, everything Meghan puts into the public sphere about herself forms a picture of the whole, from ill fitting, wrinkled clothing to arrogantly teaching grandmothers to suck eggs for Netflix, to claiming to be part of a political/royal dynasty she has denigrated and sought to damage, to grandstanding within political circles and influencing public policy that effects us all. I suggest you watch the piece I was referring to. There's no indiscriminate personal attack, it's brutal, but you can tell the guy has studied her closely.

Serenster · 14/03/2025 17:39

“…enjoy the vibrant, celebratory ambiance it brings to your event”.

This is absolutely the funniest. Thanks Netflix, I wouldn’t have had the foggiest how to react to my balloon arch without your instructions here. 🤣🤣

(From personal experience, Habitat does good balloon arch kits. I think they have sadly been discontinued recently, but can still be bought on eBay)

Well said @FromTheOfficeOfJammyTodger!
there’s a very simple way to stop all this criticism, simply stop behaving in this manner .

“Why for the love of God doesn't she understand she needs to do the thing first instead of just self identifying?”

Good question. The psychological reason would be that narcissists are imitators at core. They copy other peoples characteristics and attributes, claiming them as their own. They cannot be an “authentic self” I suppose because they don’t really have one. This explains the multiple dizzying identities - that don’t come out of an inner complexity - but more of a fast-moving conveyer belt of different superficial identities and roles; remember her chosen career was an “actress”…

Edited

Signs and symptoms of Narcissistic Personality Disorder:

In the American Psychiatric Association’s Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders, Fifth Edition, Text Revision (DSM-5-TR), [about:blank 1] NPD is defined as comprising a pervasive pattern of grandiosity (in fantasy or behavior), a constant need for admiration, and a lack of empathy, beginning by early adulthood and present in a variety of contexts, as indicated by the presence of at least 5 of the following 9 criteria:

  • A grandiose sense of self-importance
  • A preoccupation with fantasies of unlimited success, power, brilliance, beauty, or ideal love
  • A belief that he or she is special and unique and can only be understood by, or should associate with, other special or high-status people or institutions
  • A need for excessive admiration
  • A sense of entitlement
  • Interpersonally exploitive behavior
  • A lack of empathy
  • Envy of others or a belief that others are envious of him or her
  • A demonstration of arrogant and haughty behaviors or attitudes

Do we think any 5 of the above 9 behaviours are apparent?

I suspect that the guests on the podcast will be expected to praise Meghan effusively, say how much they love her and repeatedly tell her how inspirational she is and she’ll lap it all up 🤢
I definitely won’t be listening.

If anyone watches Twin Talk, they have posted an extract from a podcast by Meghan's fellow Netflix star, the comedian Tim Dillon, who is about to drop his third Netflix special. His observations on MM are brutal, but I think there's some truth there - comics can be great observers of human nature. Basically he thinks MM is driven by hate, that she actually hates all these "friends" and the audience, and, well, everyone; that's why all the criticism she gets bounces off her. Because she hates us all anyway and when her hate meets our (what she perceives as) "hate" (ie justified criticism), it refracts. It doesn't touch her at all. Nothing does, which is why she keeps going when others would crumble. It's an interesting theory. And could account for the hostile feelings people have picked up from MM's demeanour in the show.

That’s interesting and I will take a look at this comedian’s take.

It reminds me that narcissists’ contempt is one of their markers … which I suppose is similar to hate. Sometimes it just bursts out of them. Even about people they previously were close to or good friends with.

They can also suddenly devalue and dismiss people from their lives for the most minor of (real or imagined) infractions. MM’s father would be a good example. He went from father of the year to persona non gratis, never to be seen or contacted by her again.

I should say MM is not personally v interesting to me and I’m not interested in the royal family either especially, though I know some people on this thread are. However, I do find her interesting as an example of a mid-level narcissist, and also as a figure of our more narcissist times, including eg. virtue signalling as a form of self promotion etc. After all, why do anything real when you can simply release a word salad or upload a LiveLaughLove meme or video on Instagram.

PS. One further observation re. MM’s new podcast about “founder women”. The name brings to mind cosy American values like Founding Fathers and Little Women. It’s a little ironic as MM actually got ahead in this world by marrying a rich prince and merching his family. In a way she is living proof of the old adage that “marriage is still the best career for a woman“. It doesn’t bother me if this is true or not btw, but why pretend you don’t fall into that catergory? To be fair, she was a slightly successful actress in one series and had also had a successful Tig thing; going; but she only really made it in any real sense when she “got a ring on it” as she said 👀 to Drew Barrymore!!

Mayomash · 14/03/2025 18:28

Agree - a virtue signalling avatar.

Just pixels required in this virtual delusional world.

You can get the Habitat ones in Argos. I had a fight with one back in January for my DS’s birthday

Sorry, just catching up. My slide and hide is touch screen <extra smug> 😆. Apologies for smug derail 😬

eta in my defence, it was to replace a rickety old gas range that we inherited with the house and lived with for far too long 😆

It’s a year since American Riviera Orchard ( remember that?) was launched followed by a few pots of jam but nothing to buy.
A year later it is relaunched with a different name but still no products available to buy .
I assume Meghan has access to advisers ? Where are they ?
Now she is to host a podcast as a Founder despite not really having a business ! 🤷‍♀️

I believe she’s suffering the same delusion as Harry!
they both think that they are entitled and people will just give them money for who they are!

I'm going to say it, I miss eye-level grills.

As Flanders and Swann put it "I'm ecstatic about my eye-level grill. It means that without my having to bend down, hot fat can squirt straight in my eye."

I think that is from the song "Design for living" which has hot tips such as:
"Have you a home that cries out to your visitors: 'Here lives somebody who is Exciting to Know!' No?
So why not save those little metal bottle tops and nail them upside down to the floor. This will give the sensation of... walking on little metal bottle tops nailed upside down to the floor."

glitterturd · 14/03/2025 19:26

What is Meghan selling ? What will she talk about in the podcast ?

But she has talked about it for a year, so it obviously exists. The small matter of having no actual products to sell is irrelevant. This is about words not actions. 🙄

I wonder if she's heard of Pippa Middleton's book on hosting, or knows about the lampooning it received. #pippatips
