I wonder why she's suddenly pushing the point.

Raspberry Spread sounds like some cheap knock-off product sold in B&M that can't be called jam because it is so full of additives. Bet she went mental when she was told it couldn't legally be called jam. Why 'spread' and not 'preserve,' though? It's the wrong branding. It reminds me of Leslie Crowther Stork Margarine adverts. Is Instagram about to be inundated by obscure American influencers thanking Meghan for her spread?

Yes, 'spread' sounds like cheap ersatz jam. Not a premium product you'd be prepared to pay extra for.

Jam is a pretty basic product anyway, so how lousy must this 'spread' be if it didn't mean the minimum standards?

OctopusFriend · 06/03/2025 17:04

It's because she can't cope with being called "Markle". She's a Trad Wife. It's got to be an identity from a man. Sussex is a bit shorter and easier than Mountbatten Windsor, and no-one else in the family uses it, so she's Special.

That's their MO. Victimhood by insinuation, no specifics. Because otherwise they would have to consider whether their own behaviour was a large part of the problem. Easier to believe in malice by others.

As opposed to 'we were a nightmare and then had a strop'.

100% agree.

As opposed to 'we were a nightmare and then had a strop'....and a flounce.

Weepixie · 06/03/2025 17:05

Why 'spread' and not 'preserve

I think it’s to do with the percentage of sugar in it.

The Mindy Kaling episode was filmed last April. It would be interesting to know what was happening then that triggered this response. Particularly since there's been nothing else between then and the Netflix release where she's demanded to be called Sussex rather than Markle. I assume she's been referred to as Markle on quite a number of occasions during that time, both private and public.

Mountbatten Windsor is so much nicer as a name though! Very elegant and aristocratic.

"Sussex" really does not have a pleasant sound. Too many 's' makes it sound like you're hissing. But I guess we are not allowed to forget that she is a Duchess.

Belladonne · 06/03/2025 17:10

The Duchess of Gussex has a nice ring to it.

Stickystickysticky · 06/03/2025 17:10

From a quick google search: "Jam" can't be called jam when it doesn't meet the legal definition of jam, which typically means it contains too little fruit, has large chunks of fruit making it more like a preserve, or includes added ingredients like nuts or large pieces of fruit peel that would classify it as a conserve, rather than a pure jam.

It's not been labelled a preserve or conserve so it must be because it doesn't contain enough fruit.

That's the essential point: she has a royal title and status.
Critical to her identity. What is she without it?

She’s done a complete about turn from her feminist having a voice claptrap to this hasn’t she? Just shows that none of it is more than skin deep.

EsmaCannonball · 06/03/2025 17:16

Future product idea: As Ever Sandwich Spread.

I want royalties if she makes it.

stillclueless · 06/03/2025 17:16

@Ohpleeeease were you party to the calls when Charles refused to give H money. None of us knows what is going on behind closed doors and for posters to think that they do then they are deluded. Back to the thread I haven't watched this programme it is not something I would usually watch and just because M is hosting it doesn't change that. For those posters that they think if you side with H & M then you are a member of a squad then you are also deluded. I just give my opinion as I see fit it doesn't mean I am on either side it's not a school playground.

Well, she was the eye candy on a game show, the eye candy on a cable TV show and the eye candy burger flipping for a men's mag. Her feminist creditials appeared when she was hustling to appear on the world stage. She's famous now, so no need.

Didn't Harry say in the Oprah interview that Charles had cut him off financially, and wouldn't take his calls?

Yes he did @OctopusFriend , but apparently we are only supposed to believe what he says when it's convenient to a point being made and ignore it when it's not!

She was also the person with her head bobbing up and down in someone’s lap whilst sitting in the front of a car. It wasn’t in an episode of Suits though, it was a one off appearance in another series. Between that and the burger add I’ve never understood how she could claim to be a feminist but when I mentioned it on a couple of threads even a year ago I was told the fact she made a choice to do these parts made her a feminist.

MrsFinkelstein · 06/03/2025 17:28

I'm still horrified reeling atunned at the audacity of someone putting a teabag in a jar of water and sitting it out to "warm" in the sun - and call it TEA!??

What in the actual clustering fuck is going on?

This is like the Boston Tea Party all over again. There's a red line and she's pole vaulted over it.

Ok, got it 👍.
Like when he accused his family of racism, then said in another interview they weren't racist, it was the British Press who said that!
It's worthy of George Orwell double speak.

Funny how it involved her getting down to her pants.
A bit like the career of Dame Judi Dench.

I was just thinking about the whole "my surname is Sussex now" comment (I was chopping chilli and garlic, it was dull, in my defence!) and wondering how Megs hasn't grasped the intricacies of royal titles and surnames etc.

She must KNOW that her children's surnames are Mountbatten-Windsor, surely? And they (the kids) aren't the Duke and Duchess of Sussex, Harry and Megs are. So her surname simply isn't "Sussex" - it just isn't is it? Is she really that stupid that she thinks it is? Or is it?! My mind is boggling.

Maybe it's come from Harry because in the UK, it's quite common for the peerage to use their title as their surname. Or Meghan could have noticed that from being around Harry's social circle?

All it shows me is a lack of self respect, especially in someone who calls herself a feminist.

Weepixie · 06/03/2025 17:38

I remember now. It was during an episode of the Beverly Hills 90210 remake.
