The whole thing is a hustle. But she sells it as she’s soooo thoughtful and thinks about everyone and it’s all the little personal touches she’s made. It’s not, it’s a hard hustle. It’s QVC in the sunshine.
Well yes, that's what it was always going to be. Meghan is a hustler. That's the authentic her: it's how she was raised, it's what she did in college, it's what she did right until she joined the RF and during and now after.

There was a quote in VF article from someone who'd worked for her saying that Meghan always wanted to monetise everything. And that goes with 'I can't believe I'm not getting paid for this' on their Australian tour and leaving the RF to basically monetise their royal status. I think it was Tom Bower who said in 'Revenge' that Meghan was furious that she wasn't allowed to keep any of the freebies she got sent as a royal and she also couldn't do deals with brands to get a kick-back from sales generated by her wearing their products. Them leaving the RF and moving to CA was all so she could make money from their royal status. Making money is her raison d'etre.

That's the authentic her: it's how she was raised, it's what she did in college, it's what she did right until she joined the RF and during and now after. The world she chose to inhabit is full to the brim with pretty girls clawing their way to the top. Meghan's hustling skills - which I have quite a lot of admiration for - are excellent. Look where she is now compared to where she came from! And, I'm going to hazard a guess that she got these skills from her mum, the one person who's been by her side throughout it all.

Every appearance, every zoom, every speech, every podcast, every interview, every show - everything Meghan does is about selling her, about hustling. This show was only ever going to be one long Instagram reel and Instagram is nothing but advertising of people, of services, of goods, for profit.

And, just to be clear, this is the way it is for ALL of her ilk: Gwyneth, Reese, Jessica et al. They're all doing the same thing: hustling, selling door to door but virtually. Some are better at it than others, some are funny, some delight in it. That world is BRUTAL, and the more skilled ones will be laughing at how Meghan has launched shit products, with a shit show, and still has to turn over a share of the profits of whatever she does sell to Netflix. That she has squandered the opportunity she has been given is going to make a lot of people very cross. All the hot air and prettiness and puffery is for tweens on Insta and tiktok who are too underdeveloped to see through it all. There's hard numbers behind all of it. Meghan has always known it and I suspect Harry is now learning it.

Oh God don't start the Great Hustling Debate again 😉

I'm wondering if the current need to hustle and generate loads of $$$$$ is less about sustaining her lifestyle with PH but more about creating an escape fund that is sustainable post divorce?

EsmaCannonball · 04/03/2025 17:04

I haven't actually seen the show because I got rid of Netflix (not in a flounce, I just switched to a different service) but I've just read about the children's gift bags and the importance of introducing children to the 'guest experience.' Why does she talk like a hotel brochure?

APATEKPHILLIPEWATCH · 04/03/2025 17:04

AtIusvue · 04/03/2025 16:57

All her recipes are based around these products and others. It’s just an advertisement. Ffs.

She’s so fake.

This is also a rip off of her FIL’s Highgrove range.

I think she’s seriously a nasty woman and it wouldn’t surprise me if she really just wanted to ‘beat’ the RF at everything.

MrsLeonFarrell · 04/03/2025 17:05

jeffgoldblum · 04/03/2025 16:41

I'm not surprised you are angry @AtIusvue !!
And before anyone says it's mean and it's because it's Meghan!!

No Jamie Oliver was also blasted when his new series about air fryers was discovered to be an overlong advertisement for tefal!!!

Was it Nigella who brought out a range of mixing bowls that were tear drop shaped? That was the only time over seen a product on TV and thought it looked like an improvement. Then of course they were too expensive so I didn't get them but they were a good idea.

I see no reason to buy over priced packet mixes just because Megan is selling them. It doesn't sound as if she is selling anything unique so I don't see how she is going to make money.

cheezncrackers · 04/03/2025 17:06

And still more 'rave' reviews, this time from The Times, including this gem of a paragraph:

In one episode, after she has put about 50 quid’s worth of berries on a plate and decked out a summer house like there’s been an explosion in a Cath Kidston warehouse, she tells her guest Mindy Kaling that it’s possible to create this kind of magic “on a budget”. Here, I’m afraid, I laughed out loud. Tone-deaf klaxon required! That a millionaire paid a reported $100 million by Netflix to tit around in a farmhouse kitchen wearing perfect pastel trousers could utter the word “budget” with a straight face and seems to suggest she’s just another “working mom” may make you wish to retch into your (rosemary-scented) sick bag.

With Love, Meghan review — smug, syrupy and endlessly spoofable

The new Netflix series from Meghan, the Duchess of Sussex, is full of immaculately tasteful domestic tips from Montecito and relentless smiling, but it is a performative kind of joy

That's really terrible packaging. The colours are so uninspired and you can barely read that squiggly writing, sorry 'calligraphy'.

"smug, syrupy and endlessly spoofy"
Brilliant 👌!

AtIusvue · 04/03/2025 17:08

I knew she would be grifting to a certain extent. But I had thought the purpose of the show was to sell what an ‘expert’ she is, so you buy into her and her lifestyle….so then you buy any products she sells.

I didn’t realise every single recipe she shares, is from a suggestion at the back of the packet of the products she’s currently grifting. It’s just an advert. No wonder it was so boring!

AtIusvue · 04/03/2025 17:11

But are there products??
I'm fascinated by this and whether the 'business' can work.

One long Instagram reel is a good description @Onlyonekenobe

I hope some of the reviews start to expose the grifting of the product placement.

The website says the products will be available in 'spring', which is rather vague. You can see pictures of the 'products' but no details or pricing.

I don't see how this business can work. It all seems very sloppy, especially not having the 'products' available to coincide with the launch of the show.

The reviews won’t be complete until they realise what the hell is going on.

Im actually furious.

Thanks to the posters on here who posted about the As ever products and having seen all 8 episodes, I now know that every single recipe she shares. EVERY SINGLE ONE. Has been designed around an As ever product.

Now at first I thought it was strange why everything was so basic and very repetitive. We knew she wasn’t a great chef. But still. Basic bitch doesn’t even cover it. We also knew that she would include jam somewhere but I never realised what a complete grift the whole show is

Now it did jump out at me that the recipe mixes for the cake, doughnuts, biscuits, crepes was given VERY little time or was even a cut away scene. It would be 30 secs max. She then spent the rest of the 5 mins telling you how to decorate etc.

Obviously, because shes trying to tell the consumer …..don’t worry about the baking part. That she’s not a fan of baking and she’s also at pains that she doesn’t like measuring etc. Because the main part is the decorating guys! Plus she has these wonderful mixes you can use so you can spend all your time decorating. You don’t even have to measure! It’s all done for you!

So for example. The shortbread. Super quick run through of the recipe. She spends the whole time telling you how to add the edible flowers on and then how to wrap them. So that’s at least two products there- the As ever biscuit mix and edible flowers.

The french crepes, super quick run through again. The whole time is the technique and how you decorate the plate (with jam of course) so that’s another two products

The cake. Same story. That has at least two As ever products

The doughnuts, that she tells us she making for the Korean chef because he loves doughnuts, and remember Meg is always thinking about other people needs….we are repeatedly told that throughout the episodes ….is really just to sell the mix and yet again the As ever edible flowers. I’m guessing icing sugar too. So there’s 3 products.

But what is most infuriating, is how she used the other chefs. Not one recipe that Meg shared is authentic, every one is a grift. So she relies on the Korean chef, Mexican chef, her friend Vicky and Alice waters to share real, tasty receipts. But these people also explain how these dishes are important to their family/culture etc and Meg just uses them to break up the infomercial and try and give the show some credibility….and grift. Meghan never shared a real recipe. Like her mother’s gumbo or her famous roast chicken. If it doesn’t have ingredients she can sell, she ain’t sharing it.

I genuinely feel sorry for her friend Vicky. She shared her mother’s potsticker recipe. That her mum taught her. She even brings her mums recipe book. Meg uses Vicky’s family recipe to sell her chilli oil. She shows the recipe she makes for the dipping sause. As ever chilli oil coming to a store near you. Imagine using your friend like that!

Even the conversations are fake. Kelly and Abby talk about Megs love of hot sause when serving with the fish. As ever hot sauce is clearly going to be sold. The salad she serves has flowers and the flax hearts. So again at least three products.

There two very basic pasta dishes, again I’m sure she will have As ever pasta.

Even the kids gift bags contents …absolutely will all be for sale.

You can also see the grift for wrapping, candles , calligraphy pens.

The whole thing is a hustle. But she sells it as she’s soooo thoughtful and thinks about everyone and it’s all the little personal touches she’s made. It’s not, it’s a hard hustle. It’s QVC in the sunshine.

I don’t know why I’m so shocked. I knew there would be the jams etc. But the whole thing is just the recipes you would get at the back of the packet of the crap she’s selling.

It’s so fake. I’m bloody annoyed I wasted hours watching it.

I haven't watched yet but this is a persuasive but devastating analysis. It's so good it needs a wider audience. I bet the Daily Mail would write a piece based on it, if you could bear to deal with them.

She’s demonstrating a super basic salad …lettuce, tomatoes and onions…with edible flowers

Like the side salads you'd get with any pub lunch in the 1980s, except with flower petals instead of ready salted crisps.

Bone broth. Right. Like in Jane Austen's time?
She's just read that somewhere, she's no idea what it means.
Bone broth indeed.

I think copied the bone both with sick children from Gwyneth Paltrow. I'd bet my house Gwyneth is the only woman in the world who has kids who'd actually eat it.

Edible flowers seem a tad expensive they're, just checked the prices on amazon!

If you become a MasterChef-style forager you can get them for free. If a dog has weed on them you don't even have to knock up a vinaigrette.
