With this new authentic Insta post where Meghan positions herself as a go between in securing some signed merchandise I think there's still plenty to discuss.
This is a new image. No make up. Carefully edited insta. New lips. Is this influencer territory? Mention of " my husband and l " Echoes of the Queen ?

Almost 80,000 comments on the Netflix trailer, of which it appears 79,.900 are negative, with the comments still rolling in day by day.

Maybe Netflix are happy with that level of engagement despite it being overwhelmingly negative and critical of her and the show.

I think if the show has been updated with footage from the fires, as has been rumoured, it will take that criticism to a whole other level.

I doubt Netflix cares as long as they get subscriptions and people watch for whatever reason.

Slight tangent, but it seems Scobie's company MeYou has closed down and it's said he's moved to California

Wonder if he's hoping for another collaboration ...

Re Lilibet - lots of people in the world don’t know about this name. That child is going to go through their life with people thinking her parents couldn’t spell ‘Elizabeth.’

Poor kid.

Perhaps he’s going to be their new PR person…

She'll be fine in the US, loads of people have really bizarre names. My inlaws have a habit of using family surnames as first names. Sometimes it works out okay but especially for the girls it can sound really off sometimes.

Not the real examples but for example, Blair and Harper sound okay for female first names but Johnson or Banks or Livingston would sound really odd.

I spent my first visit with extended family quietly asking DH their real names as I assumed I was being introduced to their nickname. But no.

Oh my, Meghan needs to go back to Influencer school for a refresher, or at least wait until her content consultant shows up for work. , M apparently used to do this stuff for her blog, she should know her shit.

I guess she did make an effort to 'elevate the ordinary' with the metal bucket of apricots, it's just so basic despite an effort to present it attractively, another example of how her show is going to be fake and nothing but smoke and mirrors, she does not have the creativity (or interest) to do it herself or to keep up the facade.

That really is a pretty crap display isn't it ?

I thought he was writing? producing? a TV show about a fictional royal family or something.

FromTheOfficeOfJammyTodger · 13/02/2025 21:13

Scobie is writing a TV show about an American PR woman who goes to work in the British RF comms department. No doubt plenty of cultural clashes, comedy stick up the bum British old blokes, staff slumped over their desks in tears, and warm hugs with the hot prince who can't help but be drawn to her manic pixie girl charms.

If she’s going to be on Instagram, she really needs to do it properly - so many people have slick and professional pages that some half-hearted pictures aren’t going to cut it. I feel like she’s missed the boat to really build on there, but time will tell. TikTok is where it’s at and if she’s after younger generations it’s where she should be.

Why does she have to do it properly? I don't do mine properly, lots of people don't. What is doing instagram properly even mean? What's the criteria and who decided it? It's her account to manage how she wants to. If you don't like it don't look at it 💁‍♀️

Serenster · 13/02/2025 22:12

Because it’s literally currently the promotional tool for her latest business venture? If she wants to garner interest and help promote With Love, Meghan, then doing it to a reasonable standard is kind of a basic requirement.

This. It isn’t an account where she’ll post pictures of her family for her family and friends. It’s promotional.

Are you trying to make a living as an influencer too then @Spectre8

Hard agree. I've written before on these threads about the extraordinary evolution (well, devolution, really) of the Sussex Brand from quasi Royal philanthropists to influencers. It's extraordinary to me because of the speed at which it happened - about 5 years.

But, yes, Meghan is now an influencer, which means that H&M are no longer Royals but a commercial enterprise. And since the commercial enterprise has thus far failed to produce any content of note, they themselves are the product, and Insta is their shop window.

This means that Meghan's Insta has to be truly excellent. But, as I've pointed out before, as with everything Meghan does on social media, her Insta activity always seems to be about 5 or 6 years behind the current zeitgeist (I've speculated elsewhere that this could be due to her age, or to the quality of her advisers).

Take the content of the last few days. The post with the timbits and cookies - just shoddy, would have looked fine in 2015 but not 2025. The Invictus pics - lovely but they vanished almost as soon as they'd been posted, I presume because the athletes and families pictured hadn't had their permission sought before they were posted, and they didn't want to be on Meghan's Insta.

So, yes, she needs to focus on doing Insta well. I've heard that ARO's on hiatus (languishing in the 'too difficult' bucket) but as and when it revives, she'll need a proper, organic Insta presence.

This is before we even get onto the thorny question of what role Harry will play in this commercial enterprise. Meghan needs him for content, because her brand value on its own is currently in negative figures. But Harry comes from a world where media attention is either grudgingly tolerated or avoided: he famously hates the press. Will he be willing to walk red carpets at product launch events and appear in Insta reels and vids? Will he perform well when he does? Because Meghan needs him to.

It's an invidious position they're in, brand and career wise. I'm glad I'm not advising them. That ticket's a hospital pass if ever I saw one.

Herbologistinwaiting · 14/02/2025 07:50

Harry’s not photogenic either. He’s balding, with frizzy hair and a ruddy complexion. He looks awkward and odd these days. She is no longer fresh faced and girlish . She’s an attractive woman in her forties but she doesn’t dress well and often seems ill at ease and brittle.

Thedom · 14/02/2025 08:12

Totally agree @GiveMeSpanakopita. I don't see how the influencer route is going to bring her much though, nothing very positive anyway.

It is hard to believe she married one of the most eligible royal bachelors at the time, married into the most famous of all Royal families, making her more famous than she could ever have dreamed of and she has ended up right back where she started before she met him, hustling for herself on Insta.

She has destroyed all the prestige she gained by marrying into the RF and now is trying to start all over again with the only thing she understood before she met Harry, such a massive downgrade in a few short years.

MrsFinkelstein · 14/02/2025 09:25

JSMill · 13/02/2025 14:42

@MrsLeonFarrell thanks for the explanation. I'm still figuring out Instagram, which I know makes me sound about 100!

Anyone can see "stories" on Insta, you don't need to follow the person.

You just click on their profile photo. Stories only are visible for 24hrs - if there's no red/purpley ring around the profile pic then there's no story to view.

HamandCheeseSandwich · 14/02/2025 09:30

The ONLY way she's going to make her Insta the most popular.. is by putting up photos of the kids facing the camera. yes, not some potential body double facing the wrong way in a weirdly photoshopped image of them running towards M&H.

Actual photos of the actual children. The second she does that, she'll have probably 50 million (or more) followers. Overnight.

Well, this comes back to what audience segment she thinks she is targeting.

I wrote on the (now full) Invictus 2025 thread that her most promising audience segment would be the US 40+ middle income wife and mother. Classic middle Americana, the sort of woman who grew up listening to Britney, Beyonce, Kelly Clarkson and Christina, may or may not have a college degree, works in lower-middle to middle income office job, 2 kids, husband working FT. Decent bits of disposable income but, aside from the odd night out with the girls and some beauty and wellness treats, prefers to spend her income on her home and family. But when she does treat herself, she wants something aspirational, elevated, looking good without breaking the bank, and her nightly half hour to herself is spent very enjoyably on Insta and Pinterest looking for ideas.

This is a HUGE audience segment, they're powerful politically, they make all the spending decisions for their entire household, they're smart, very internet and consumer savvy, so they're economically powerful too. ARO and With Love Meghan absolutely SHOULD be aimed right at this massive market.

The problem is that this market segment also skews small c social conservative with strong family values. This is why, rightly or wrongly, they broke for Trump rather than Kamala. And this is where Meghan has a problem - she's not seen as someone who loves and cares for her family. She's seen as someone who made her husband's elderly grandparents' last few years on earth miserable - unforgivable in itself, but also, not just any grandmother but the Queen, and our MidWest Mom never really thought about the Queen that much but when she did, she thought she quite admired her.

So: that's a huge blocker to accessing that audience. It's quite the PR conundrum.

Hello Canada has the Wales kids on the cover and in a feature this week about them being the next generation of the RF. Quite interesting timing considering Harry is there for Invictus - I hope they keep him away from the newsstands! I imagine the Sussexes will be starring in next week's issue.

Harrys interference with Canadians First Nations continues!

And apparently the councillor interviewed either has forgotten the more recent visit from Catherine and William and Edward's personal help returning some articles and vist to return them or it's been deliberately missed out!
