Kensington Palace have released a photo of the Princess of Wales photographed by her youngest son, Prince Louis. It is to mark World Cancer Day, which is tomorrow.

How cute!

I am a supporter of the monarchy. I admire the Waleses. I am sorry that Catherine was unwell, and was treated for cancer.
I don't mind them publishing a photo taken by their child.
And yet..... I really feel a bit uncomfortable about Catherine making herself the poster girl for cancer. The King has been open about his cancer, but has just cracked on without fuss. I find Catherine's more sentimental, "inspirational" style is really not to my taste - a little more stoicism wouldn't go amiss.
But, hey, each to their own....

So you can issue any photo as long as you claim it is to mark World Cancer Day?

Seriously Kate whoever's idea it was for you to pose like Jesus, stop listening to them. If it was your idea, listen to your advisers.

Do you see the Virgin Mary in fluffy clouds as well?

Fair point.

I know what you mean - I did find the family video a little OTT.

I imagine she's had a lot of time to think about how she wants to do things going forward and what's important to her. She's certainly alluded to a new mindset.

She's started the year with a focus on two engagements focusing on cancer treatment and hospice care and now this acknowledgment of World Cancer Day.

It will be interesting to see how it goes moving forward.

I think maybe @IcedPurple meant not a good picture an adult should have chosen to put on the official Instagram page on World Cancer Day. Coming back to it, it's really quite something. I well know the feeling the vanquishing ill health. But this public display of triumph is a bit 😬, especially when many can't and don't. A bit of circumspection wouldn't go amiss.

Edited

Oh god here we go again 🙄 what about the people who are suffering ? What about the Starving in blah blah? What about my auntie who has a verucca? 😂

Mightymoog · 03/02/2025 17:00

Also, why do they think anyone wants to see a photo their kid took?
Really annoys me that as a country we are such sycophants that this has made it into the public domain at all.
WTF has it got to do with cancer day apart from a bit more self publicising.
Bore off, the lot of them

What has it got to day with cancer day ????

It is!

Bloody Nora, looks like Jesus 🤣.

Have you ever seen Jesus? Where was he?

Theunamedcat · 03/02/2025 20:30

Mightymoog · 03/02/2025 18:42

guess we'll never know as she's not said what cancer/ treatment she had ( despite being help up as somehow now being the face of cancer and making it all normal and easy to talk about)

She doesn't owe anyone her diagnosis no-one no matter how famous should be forced to disclose medical information

The Queen had bone cancer did you bitch about that too?

The entitlement is sickening

Apparently in an overcoat in some woods in Norfolk.

If she wanted to make herself a poster child for cancer she would have discussed her type of cancer surely?

She isn't doing that she released a picture her son took of her it's not that deep

The queen wasn’t posting ridiculous videos, unnecessary photos and mawkish affirmations, was she? If she had, she’d had deserved similar eye-rolling.

crumblingschools · 03/02/2025 20:35

Didn’t realise Katherine had facial hair, and surely if standing like Christ the Redeemer her legs would be together. So nothing like Jesus.

Serenster · 03/02/2025 20:35

Although if you have a terminal cancer diagnosis what exactly are you nurturing beyond your diagnosis? 🤔

Thankfully, personally I don’t know. But recently Kate has been speaking with cancer victims at the Royal Marsden and parents who lost their children at the hospice in Wales. She’s also spoken to the family of Liz Hatton, who died of cancer last year aged just 17. Maybe she learned a bit from them about nurturing the person behind the diagnosis? Certainly that’s what Liz Hatton’s family were dedicated to doing.

Jacquette · 03/02/2025 20:39

I can’t read one of the words in the caption clearly. Does it say ‘don’t forget to nurture all that which lies beyond the disease’?

I agree with your points.

I prefer the stoic approach like KC, but then again I don't have cancer. Some people love the 'kicking cancer's arse" or Kate's whimsical cancer survivor. In my mind there is room for both approaches.

Neither of them owe anyone their diagnosis or explanations about their chemotherapy treatments.

winfongdown · 03/02/2025 20:48

I seriously do not understand how any normal person gets kicks from posting revolting things about a person who is suffering from cancer and its aftermath and all its ramifications. I do know their purpose though.
It's a bit like nature - as usual there are the little ones who bob along like the little suckers on the sides of sharks. I think they are called remoras. They swallow the scraps dropped out of the sharks' mouths. They even consume the faeces of the host.
It's a lovely little pic.
Do we go on to slag off the bell ringers when they stop treatment ? Are these people not taking account of others? I believe you have to be a member of that unwelcome club to understand.

JADS · 03/02/2025 20:49

My Dad had terminal cancer and died in 2023. During his final months, we spent time together discussing all the things that brought him joy and he had shared with me that brought me joy, his life beyond the disease as it were. I think the message is clear.

I mean did you see the Paddington video she did? Pretty ridiculous I would say. Marmalade sandwiches in her handbag? Good Lord, everyone knows they go under your hat, ridiculous 🙄🤦🏼‍♀️

Mawkish statements? Does “we will meet again” count? I’m sure someone somewhere criticised her because not everyone would be lucky to see each other again, how insensitive of her 😮🤷🏻‍♀️

And I think the Queen was the Queen (get it?!) of issuing unnecessary photos. I would post some photos as examples but it looks like the ability to post images has been temporarily disabled due to recent events. Annie Lebowitz springs to mind…

Some people really are looking to make an argument out of nothing.

Before Paddington turned into The Angel of Death.

I was wondering why pictures had been disabled, thought there was something up with my settings or something.

Yes, I believe it was pretty terrible - I'm glad I missed it.

WatchOutMissMarpleIsAbout · 03/02/2025 21:37

I prefer Charles approach to Kate’s. My sil would be like Kate and I’d be like Charles. But everyone is different and deals with their diagnosis in different ways. I don’t have cancer but a life limiting condition, only close people know about it really. And that’s my decision. SiL has similar and everyone knows. That’s up to us as individuals.
