Kensington Palace have released a photo of the Princess of Wales photographed by her youngest son, Prince Louis. It is to mark World Cancer Day, which is tomorrow.

How cute!

Catherine's cancer diagnosis just proved to me how nasty people really could be. When she had the operation and then everything went quiet, the speculation about what was going on was disgusting. Then when her diagnosis was revealed, there were lots of spiteful comments about how she would get the best treatment and she didn't have to worry about things that normal people would have to. When she expressed her gratitude to the doctors and staff, we got the same response. You almost have to pity people who are so nasty inside, they can't just wish someone well and move on.

I am a supporter of the monarchy. I admire the Waleses. I am sorry that Catherine was unwell, and was treated for cancer.
I don't mind them publishing a photo taken by their child.
And yet..... I really feel a bit uncomfortable about Catherine making herself the poster girl for cancer. The King has been open about his cancer, but has just cracked on without fuss. I find Catherine's more sentimental, "inspirational" style is really not to my taste - a little more stoicism wouldn't go amiss.
But, hey, each to their own....

Apologies if I'm repeating this, haven't caught up with the whole thread.

But can you expand on exactly how KC has been more open about his cancer?

What kind of cancer does he have? What treatment did he have? When did it finish? Has it finished? Is he in remission?

I'm not expecting you to answer, but I just like to make clear that KC has not been any more open (in some ways, he has been less) than Catherine has. This narrative seems to have sprung up and it's based on zero reported facts. Bizarre, but again it's used to criticise the woman.

"she doesn't need to talk about her diagnosis and experiences"

The issue is that she wants to become the poster child for a disease by raising awareness, breaking down stigma, identifying funding and support gaps while refusing to share any of her experiences with this. "Look at me I've concorded the world" its ultimately not that supportive to the people she wants to help. As discussed on many threads she's not had the same social experience of cancer as the general population. She doesn't have to worry about paying the mortgage, transport to appointments, childcare etc etc.

Sharing her experiences? What a revolting post .

Well I'd give them a bit of a break tbh.

Yeah, I certainly wouldn't criticise them for posting a photo their youngest child took of them.

But horses for courses I suppose.

Thedom · 04/02/2025 10:15

It's difficult to comprehend the kind of malicious jealousy and envy seen on this thread because Princess Catherine has received an outpouring of sympathy, compassion and support during her cancer diagnosis and challenging treatment.

Fortunately, it is a very small minority who have this jealous mindset to diminish an illness that hundreds of thousands of people in the UK alone are diagnosed with every year and a diagnosis no one would ever ask for.

Here's to World Cancer day, love and light to those who are newly diagnosed, to those who are trodding the path and hoping for a return to full health, to those who know a return to full health is not something they will experience, to the families and loved ones and to all the amazing cancer organisations, medics and scientists fighting the fight alongside those suffering.

winfongdown · 04/02/2025 10:33

@Thedom I have to agree with you but we know the reality here. We know how it works. We've seen it before. " oh my granny had cancer and blah blah blah. Charles did cancer better - he was private. Oh wait Charles shared all his details. " which one was it ? " The POW is lucky, she got treatment, now here she is boasting about it. What about others who have mortgages?" It's the same old tripe. Nothing new - any chance to have a go. She's bland, she's too pushy with cancer, the photo is not in focus, it's like a statue which symbolises Christianity around the world- said by people in a very unchristian or even ethical way.

upinaballoon · 04/02/2025 10:59

I don't understand what the idea that Catherine has concorded the world means.

Concorded? Something to do with the USA?

winfongdown · 04/02/2025 11:18

It's very flowery language isn't it ?

GrouchyKiwi · 04/02/2025 11:24

Meant to be conquered, I think.

bitteroldseetrouts · 04/02/2025 11:45

Republicanism isn't selling itself, is it, if some of the posters here are examples of the face of it. Envy and hatred is ugly. Let's hope for Graham and his little brigade that these are just the usual SS supporters using his campaign to legitimise their bile, when all they really care about is seeing King Henry and Queen Meghan on the throne of "England".

JoyousGreyOrca · 04/02/2025 11:58

@bitteroldseetrouts I can hardly believe you have actually written that.

bitteroldseetrouts · 04/02/2025 12:09

Oh well, I can hardly believe that real, serious republicans prefer to spend their time on MN bitching about a cancer patient and her 6 year old; rather than putting forward an attractive picture of a future republic, a peaceful transition based on persuading all parties involved that this would be for the good of the country and themselves, and a governmental model that somehow manages not to end up as dismal as every other republic in history. But here we are, talking about a woman who is not even the heir to the throne, and how she hasn't done cancer right.

Agree!

Gosh - reading through this thread - what a lot of sad people there are! Some quite bizarrely nasty and spiteful comments.

You'd think Catherine had done something really bad, wouldn't you, to provoke some of this stuff? All this woman has done is to marry Prince William, have 3 kids and then get cancer. I can only assume that the nasty comments are coming from people who swallowed the Koolaid* which Meghan spouted, all of which has been shown to be made-up rubbish.

I'm not saying they're paid-up SS members - but they do seem to be trotting out the script you see on Celebitchy (home of the SS) these days.

Otherwise I cannot for the life of me see what this pleasant and professional woman has done to bring down such spite on her head!

Koolaid: Hate this awful US American expression but you do see it on here from anti-monarchists all the time.

I can’t believe you looked at Catherine stood on a log and thought she was emulating Jesus Christ 🤷‍♀️

"You'd think Catherine had done something really bad, wouldn't you, to provoke some of this stuff? All this woman has done is to marry Prince William, have 3 kids and then get cancer"

And happily scav off the taxpayer when she is married into a family that has literally billions.
And release shite done by her family to keep them front and centre

yup, and aren't all these freeloaders.

myrtleWilson · 04/02/2025 13:53

You won't beeeelieeeve the way that the Princess of Wales is stepping off a bus with a load of school aged children this afternoon - practically rubbing her status as the patron saint for cancer victims into the faces of young innocent children...

Oh wait, she didn't. She walked into the National Portrait Gallery with them as part of their focus on social/emotional skills

ETA - project sounds very cute - a magic tree that has grown in the NPG

She's welcome to the few quid (it's that little) of my tax. Personally I think I get great value from the RF - no complaints from me! I think it's not much more than the price of a cup of fancy coffee per year.

Oh boy, do you sound bitter though.

You may be happy to give billionaires some of your money but I don't want to give any of them a penny of mine which is why I'm so bitter about them.

You must be able to understand that?

A few quid of your money, but times that by 69 million adults in the UK and we are talking a considerable wodge aren't we....

I would love to know about 'great value' from the RF. What exactly? The whole family, including the wider family, stand as the most priviliged and rich people imaginable, with no one being able to question them. To my mind, that is wrong.

Amen to that. It's pretty remarkable!

They are welcome to my tax too, for all it is. Lord knows I pay enough of it!

I know that wasn't aimed at me, but no, I really don't understand the intense hatred for people who haven't done you any harm. It's mind-boggling.

The only people I do dislike intensely are certain world 'leaders' who do have the potential to do a great deal of harm to a great deal of people.

bitteroldseetrouts · 04/02/2025 14:46

If only 69 million adults in the UK were net contributors. The majority of Britons don't pay anything for anyone in real terms. I don't have a problem paying taxes to supplement other peoples' incomes through benefits, any more than I have a problem paying taxes for services I'll likely never need or use, any more than I have a problem paying people who are richer than me to govern the country, be that civil servants, MPs or the head of state. I have made a good life for myself, I don't envy being a royal, what they have doesn't make me want to be them. Do I have to be dripping with envy and bitterness to be a republican?
