Netflix has delayed start of Meghans show

Just seen on Sky News. Breaking News headlines. Delayed because of the wild fires didn't say if this was technical difficulties or it would be a bit crass to launch a frothy type lifestyle show with all the devastation. Anyway it might be shelved for good with any luck.

Well she didn’t exactly set the heather alight with her acting career did she ? A ( soon to be ending) supporting role in a cable show isn’t exactly Oscar material .

True, she's an average actor. But she would have had producers biting her hand off had she decided to carry on acting once associated with the BRF (which was a option for her) or immediately post leaving the BRF when her stock, and the public's curiosity, was high.

CatsWhiskerz · 15/01/2025 13:15

I think the delay is due to the fact Meghan has had so many bad reviews and bad publicity it is beyond embarrassing and the tv show is bound to be a flop. My suspicion is that they want her to make a better impact at Invictus Games next month and people will be more receptive of her in March

Fat chance of that ever happening on course! She'll just stomp all over IG on her me me me manner, being all royal and up her own arse - fuck who the real people are doing these games - god knows how much money they'll hoover out of IG to get higher profiles, staff, outlandishly expensive clothes/ flights/accommodation... when the IG athletes get nothing, not even insurance

An American media outlet- saying the comments section on the YouTube page of the NF With Love, Meghan, is pure entertainment .

https://www.barstoolsports.com/blog/3536063/big-thanks-are-in-order-to-netflix-for-leaving-the-comments-on-under-the-trailer-for-meghan-markles-insufferable-new-lifestyle-show?utm_content=buffer61e56&utm_medium=social&utm_source=twitter.com&utm_campaign=buffer

‘Which has to be the most inspid, vapid, grandiose piece of pretentious dreck ever put on screen. Even by Netflix standards, this is trash

But to finally get to what I came here for, it seems like Netflix is no more pleased with this cloying ego trip than anyone else. Because they took the practically unheard of route of keeping the YouTube comments open, even as this trailer was getting ratioed into the molten core of the Earth. With 1.2 million views so far, it only has 17K likes, which works out to about 1.2% of all viewers giving it the thumbs up. And it seems like each of the other 98.8% left a comment. A negative one.

Over 54,000 comments as I'm posting this. And finding a positive one would be like trying to find a particular grain of sand at the beach. And in leaving the comments open, Netflix has done a public service that will entertain their audience more than this exercise in self-aggrandizement and ego gratification ever could. By an order of magnitude more.’

She would have made easy money with cameos in 2020.
Remember how Harry was angry when he was told that Meghan should continue acting (Spare)? I suspect that she wanted to retire from acting or only take leading roles. Had she continued acting, then she would probably be attending the major awards shows and events like the Met Gala which are necessary for celebrities.

Aren’t most Meghan “haters” and “fans” female ? I can’t be arsed to check the YT comments to see if that’s accurate or not.

I wonder if she will go ? There was so much criticism last time .
We have a couple of veterans in our family who want H and M sidelined as they see them as a distraction.

They do have the worst luck. Certainly with covid as it stopped them making the big splash and that was when interest was at its highest
People are still interested in them and I would think as she was featuring in this as opposed to Polo the figures might not be dire, at least initially although can't see man consuming the whole series.
The problem for them is that she doesn't come across as authentic, its all so performative. Harry seems a bit clueless and to be fair its a whole different world to him. Really now they need to focus on what next, the Netflix deal is v unlikely to be renewed so they will need new guaranteed income streams to fund their v expensive lifestyle

They have also had exceptionally good luck. How many people with no track record in production could have secured the sort of deals they did with Netflix, Spotify et al?

The postponement could also play against them. Now that we know Netflix are open to postponing their content on the grounds of sensitivity, it begs the question why the Harry and Meghan docuseries went ahead when it did.

Not sure how its disaster tourism
to visit to listen and offer support those affected by a natural disaster in your home state and they city you’re from.

I'm sure most of us would do the same. I do it for any where in my own city

She did better than most actors in LA, most never get a role in a series at all. Surely with her connections now she would be able to land a role in a series on one of the streaming platforms, lots of big names are doing TV shows now. Maybe she tried behind the scenes and it didn't work out I don't know but it would seem the obvious move for an actor rather than a lifestyle show.

BasiliskStare · 15/01/2025 13:59

@Atlasvue Thanks for posting tthat although to be fair Meghan was hardly likely to say "This is derivative rubbish and will sink like a stone " 😁

This is the first time I've seen this. Surely it has a very limited audience, it screams 'rich people things' and not in an entertaining Selling Sunset kind of way.

Actually, I'm sure most of us wouldn't. Most of us know to stay out of the way, unless we intend to get stuck in. Most of us lack the hubris to think people in the thick of a disaster need us to 'visit' and 'listen to' them.

And most of us wouldn't dream of clambering over the wreckage of other peoples' cars and properties at such a time.

But most of us aren't sugars.

I initially held this view when their visit was first reported and I thought they’d actually helped. But it’s become very clear that they spent their time posing for a group shot and taking a tour of fire-ravaged homes – how does that help and who does it benefit?

Contrast that with seeing other celebrities quietly volunteering and organising: Paris Hilton at an animal shelter, Jennifer Garner at World Central Kitchen, Steve Guttenberg moving cars; I was just on Instagram looking at the Altadena Girls project (a donation drive organised by a local 14yo to help teen girls who’ve lost everything rebuild their wardrobes) and in the background there’s an actor from The New Girl among the volunteers, quietly getting on with helping. Halle Berry and Sharon Stone have done a clothing drive; Kristen Bell too, sorting through the mountains of donations. Once you see the footage of Meghan flitting about not doing anything, or the pictures of her and Harry climbing a boundary wall behind a burned-out car to go and look at a destroyed property, it’s like, why? What help is that? They’re not news reporters, whose job it is to show the world what’s happened. They’re not politicians or first responders; they don’t have expertise in searching for burned bodies or making the scene safe. The best thing they could have done is donate money or time doing something useful, like sort through physical donations - so many people are needed to do that. It looks like they did a bit of manning a food station, which is useful. But it’s the tour of the burned-out homes that grates with people, I think: there’s no reason for them to be there, it’s not useful, it’s rubbernecking.

I think the issue is that not even all residents were permitted at the time to enter the area and see their homes, imagine being unable to see what remains of your worldly possessions and your neighbourhood and then seeing people being given a guided tour of the charred remains to get themselves in the news. They travelled hours from their home and passed other relief stations to reach the one the mayor was at which does suggest they had ulterior motives beyond wanting to selflessly help. The cause didn't really need highlighting by them because it was being broadcast globally and plenty were sharing it on bigger platforms than they have online.

Do you?
Do things happen a lot in your own city that require you to offer support and listen to people?

Have you particular skills in such things?

itsstillmehere · 15/01/2025 14:43

I think Meghan thinks she is too important to just be an actress now.

Atlasvue · 15/01/2025 14:55

By delaying the show (and I understand why) all that’s happening is a vacuum has been created, and instead of it being filled with talk of the show (good, bad and the ugly) it’s being filled with the disaster tourist stuff.

She was already being called tone deaf as soon as the trailer was out and an attempt was made to get some good press visiting the fires sites. They didn’t have to pose for pictures, they could have said no to the tour as they were aware cameras would be around. I do think they wanted to help, but they also knew that their appearance would grab headlines and maybe get some good PR. It’s obviously gone disastrously wrong.

But now in the lead up to the joyful TV show, it’s going to weeks of really negative press- worse than it was before. They’ve been branded ghouls. It would have been bad reviews anyway, but now it’s going to be catastrophic.

She really should stay away from the IG. All that will happen is that she will be accused of trying to cultivate some good PR for herself. She needs to keep her head down, stay quiet and just before launch, she can put out some joyful instas.
It won’t happen, they have this weird need to constantly humiliate themselves, but someone really needs to get a grip of them. They are out of control.

itsstillmehere · 15/01/2025 15:02

When you say " I do think they wanted to help " this highlights their warped idea of their position and what they think they can do. With Harry it is a hangover from his days as a working member of the Royal Family. With Meghan it is delusion.

She was too important to be a mere Duchess and lower in rank than Kate. But Princess Markle isn't a great title either. At least nobody has called Kate Princess Middleton. The very thought!

She’s definitely in a rock and a hard place now with IG - I’m assuming that she decided not to us the IG for anything to do with the fires to keep it ‘on brand’ for the joyful cooking show. That was a mistake and now she’s stuck.

If she’d used IG stories first - sharing resources and information and then pointed people to the Sussex website for an updated and curated list of resources and of course not done the ‘tour’ and photo pose then she could have gone for engaged and trying to help like other celebs.

I wonder who advised her not to use IG for this

If you look at anyone else's, they're having no difficulty in posting things to do with the fire (mainly thanks to responders, expressions of sympathy, and highlighting the good work that is going on, plus links on organisations to consider supporting) alongside their typical content.

It must be a deliberate choice to be out of step in not doing that, and I was (mildly, not obsessively!) wondering why that was decided as the better course of action.

It's a shame that Archewell doesn't have a IG account, as that would have been a good way to show and to explain what they're doing. Right now all they have is rather pompous "from the Office of" releases and Meghan's own IG, and these circumstances have rather shown that set up to be sub-optimal

Sorry, should have made that clearer. I mean Invictus Games. I think she should stay away, because I will be characterised as a PR charade to rehabilitate her.

But I agree with your point that the info should have been shared on insta, not the official ‘office of’….

Yes, Archewell should have their own insta. It’s strange that they don’t. Good point.
