Netflix has delayed start of Meghans show

Just seen on Sky News. Breaking News headlines. Delayed because of the wild fires didn't say if this was technical difficulties or it would be a bit crass to launch a frothy type lifestyle show with all the devastation. Anyway it might be shelved for good with any luck.

Only 1.5 M followers on insta, I can't see that is going to be seen as good. A fan page has just over 725k.

Changing the subject here, but I agree with other comments on MN that a lot of the vibe of Meghan's Netflix show was tied in with a predicted Kamala Harris victory that then didn't happen.

Harris was promoting 'joy', one of the twin themes of her campaign, the other one being 'love'. 'I'm a lover!' said Jennifer Lopez, at her Harris election rally address. (I was just watching a YouTube clip of this for reasons of putting off doing some work.)

The Harris campaign message was, We need joy, be lovers not haterz. Joy and love!

And it all seems so vapid and flat and silly now that Harris lost and it's Inauguration Day.

It was vapid and silly at the time, horrendously embarrassing, infantile drivel. She was so useless it was unreal. When you directly compare her to Hilary Clinton, Michelle Obama, Eleanor Roosevelt, Margaret Thatcher and the like, it is truly painful to see the depths of her inadequacy.

No shortage of brass neck there, she knew she was out of her depth but she still felt worthy of putting herself forward. Too many people today have the opposite of imposter syndrome.

That's pathetic. C list influencers none of us have ever heard of manage to get more followers.

Potential advertisers or business partners will not be impressed by those numbers.

I remember someone posting here saying how they'd hate to be royal because you couldn't just pop out to Tesco.
God! I'd loathe that luxury being taken off me too.

The weekly shop definitely 😂. But more generally no. I would like to be able to pop to the shops should I fancy it, or if at my parents and my dad wants to pick something up, or go out for a coffee, or browse a bookshop…

JADS · 20/01/2025 16:05

I bloody loathe PA, but he probably suffered from the same issue as Harry when he joined the Navy. I also bloody loathe supermarkets and avoid them if I can.

I went to an Oxbridge reject Uni in the 90s and I did feel like I was in the middle of a Pulp song quite a lot. There were so proper monied poshos who regularly burnt toast setting off the fire alarm. Bastards!

True.
I wouldn't like not to be able to browse a bookshop.
If I become royal, I'll see if I can get away with it by not wearing a tiara and refraining from drawing humourous speech bubbles on copies of "Spare".

FromTheOfficeOfJammyTodger · 20/01/2025 16:12

Harry somehow managed to go and shop for cheap clothes in the TKMaxx "sale", so I am sure that many of the royals do manage to go and do ordinary things, dressed down and not drawing attention to themselves.

Could she just purchase millions of followers? I’ve heard of this but I don’t understand how it all works?

Wanttoadoptadog · 20/01/2025 16:17

I think if I was Royal I would chose to have Sophie’s life, highlighting excellent causes, but without the worlds eyes watching my every move.

Wanttoadoptadog · 20/01/2025 16:18

I would however demand a much better tiara than the awful one she’s been stuck with since her wedding!

I suspect Sophie can pop to Tescos.

She might already have done so.

Same here. Being a minor royal, although I guess you could say that as one of only 7 working royals Sophie isn't really minor, is the best deal.

You get to promote causes you care about at a high level, get to live in comfort and go to most of the glamorous royal events. Yet you could probably walk down the street without being recognised, and nobody is picking apart the cost of your wardrobe or the number of appearances you make. Nice work if you can get it.

WatchOutMissMarpleIsAbout · 20/01/2025 16:56

Yes if I was going to be a royal married in (no chance as I’m proper common) then Sophie is who’d I want to be. Part of the family and not as much hassle.

EsmaCannonball · 20/01/2025 17:03

I know people who were at St Andrew's at the same time as William and can confirm that he did go into normal shops, cafés, etc., albeit with a security detail and armed police officers in tow.

WeCantGoOverIt · 20/01/2025 17:04

To be fair Sophie did have a PR disaster of her own, though she did seem to learn from it.

Do you know how it works? Could I for example set myself up an account and buy millions of followers and then get companies to pay me for advertising their products? How do advertisers know if the amount of followers are actually genuine?

Like Anglesey, St Andrews would have been chosen as a place that could be managed relatively easily from a security perspective - it is a fairly isolated very small town (not even on a railway line).

I don’t think their is any high profile royal who hasn’t had at least one PR disaster even Queen Elizabeth herself!

pelargoniums · 20/01/2025 17:09

I think I’d want to do a Megxit only without all the brouhaha afterwards. Abscond with a then-beloved multimillionaire royal, but instead of all the mucky Netflix business, quietly retire to a big house with too many rooms so you have to assign them purposes like flower arranging or gift wrapping. Pop back for the occasional royal wedding, be seen juuuuuuust enough you get sent advance copies of good books and fancy candles, but not so fame-hounded you can’t eat crisps in public. The royal women have probably never done a mini tube of Pringles on a hangover like it’s a tequila shot, and is that truly living?

EsmaCannonball · 20/01/2025 17:12

Wasn't there some wild night were Diana and Fergie went out disguised as policewomen and prodded men with their truncheons, or have I imagined that?

wordler · 20/01/2025 17:16

Kate was nearly 30 by the time she got married and she didn’t get any police protection until the engagement. Before and just after they got married there were many photos of her doing ‘regular people’ shopping.

Bet she doesn’t miss this.

I was verbally attacked when replying to a post on fb and I had said that I couldn’t stand MM, Harry or Andrew.
This was then turned around to accuse me of saying M & H were on a par with pedophiles. It was utterly bizarre and there was no reasoning with those who attacked me so I gave up and blocked them.
Also, any sign that you don’t like M constantly gets an accusation of racism.
It is a sad state of affairs for genuine victims of racism that this is used in such a way.

That's shocking - someone you knew personally?
