PrettyFlyforaMaiTai · 09/01/2025 19:47

Meghan and Harry have released a statement in regards to the California wildfire via their Sussex.com website.

It reads:

”In the last few days, wildfires in Southern California have raged through neighborhoods and devastated families, homes, schools, medical care centers, and so much more – affecting tens of thousands from all walks of life.
A state of emergency has been issued.
If you feel compelled to help, here are some resources and ideas:
Support
Organizations such as José Andrés’ World Central Kitchen, which has been a longtime partner of The Archewell Foundation, are serving meals to both first responders and victims of the fire.
CAL FIRE and LA Fire Department Foundation and others are working closely to support firefighters who risk their lives, bravely showing up in these high-risk environments to help save homes, families, and communities in need.
Animal Wellness Foundation is continuing to house and care for animals evacuated by the fires while Compton Cowboys is providing emergency transportation services for horses.
Airbnb and 211LA have partnered to provide free, temporary housing for those who have been displaced.

Baby2baby is providing essential supplies including diapers, clothing, hygiene products, and emergency kits to families in need.
All Power Books and many others are staying open for emergency use, offering supplies and water for pickup while working tirelessly to distribute essentials to those affected.

Open your home
If a friend, loved one, or pet has to evacuate and you are able to offer them a safe haven in your home, please do. And be sure to check in with any disabled or elderly neighbors to see if they need help evacuating.
Give back
Some families and people have been left with nothing. Please consider donating clothing, children’s toys & clothing, and other essentials. The American Red Cross is on the ground helping those in need.”

Helping animals helps us all.

Non-profit organization leading in animal rescue, animal protection and awareness; and low-cost medical care. Adopt, volunteer and foster opportunities available!

They didn't try to break away, though.

They asked, on record, for half in and half out.

All the Royal hangers on are ' half in half out'. The Queen should have given it to them. All her other grandchildren waft around in pretendy jobs while profiting from being Royal.

Absolutely this!

Even the main RF members are ‘half in, half out’ based on their own reckoning.

The Duchies are very much commercial enterprises.

True. Unless you are asking them about their tax liabilities. Then they aren't commercial enterprises. Heads, I win, tails, you lose. At least in the middle ages Brits didn't bow down and let their Royals get away eith taking the piss!

When you said;

”I don't think Harry would be welcomed back with open arms, not now. Too much water under the bridge. He squandered a tremendous amount of goodwill towards him. There are those who will forever see him as the little boy at his mother's funeral.”

And again

“From a public perspective, he has changed immensely since he met Meghan and not in any positive way, so there will be those who blame her influence for that change. Though maybe he hasn't changed and good PR protected him. Who knows now?!”

You seem to very confident asserting everyone else’s opinions for them!

I was pointing out that not everyone shares the same viewpoint as you.

Jesus H Christ, I was only expressing my opinion!

Are you quite ok??? What part of "I think that.." did you have trouble with?

Maybe you can reword it in a way that's acceptable to you?

Bloody hell.!

Difference is, they don't represent the government and the country.

Not a difficult concept to understand!

Well... they actually do.

Why do they parade themselves for Christmas church services, or attend Royal Garden parties, if not?

EdithWeston · 10/01/2025 19:16

Yes, the Duchies are professionally run as businesses (no change there)

Only one of ER II's DGC is a working royal. Of the others:

  • Prince Harry, voluntarily stepped down after his "half in/half out" was rejected; ChImpO, production company, book royalties
  • Princess Beatrice, various jobs; is she still with Afiniti? Shortly to go on maternity leave
  • Princess Eugenie; various posts in art galleries
  • Peter Phillips, various busness interests, mainly entertainment/hospitality, but also notoriousfor That Milk Commercial
  • Zara Tindall, former World Champion, has brand ambassadorships that are in line with that level of achievement from brands which sponsor eventing plus outdoors clothing, plus directorship at Cheltenham
  • Lady Louise - still at university
  • Viscount Severn - still at school

Church services are family affairs. They are not representing anything when they attend church. They don’t usually attend garden parties, but some of them did in the summer at the invitation of the Prince of Wales. Presumably he felt he needed a bit of help with his wife and the King missing 🤷‍♀️

So? They still turn up to state events and Royal events. Harry could have had the same as Beatrice and Eugenie. Personally I think only the Monarch and heir shoukd be representing the government and the country. Cut the rest loose ( with an equivalent cut in pay) That includes Harry but also Williams younger kids.

Turning up is not the same as representing the monarch, which is what being a working royal entails.

eta Harry and Meghan wanted to represent the monarch

They've cut the balcony appearances right back, and I don't remember any of the DGC at Trooping the Colour or other state occasions.

It's Sandringham (often) and garden parties (occasionally)

Princess Beatrice in theory has a formal role as she is a Counsellor of State, but she has AFAIK never performed a representational role.

You chose to speak from “a public perspective” mainecooncatonahottinroof
which is the exact opposite of just your opinion.

No need to flap. I was merely pointing out that all public opinion is not the same.

What 'state events' do the likes of the York sisters or Tindalls 'turn up at'?

If you mean they were guests at the Coronation, well, so were Ant and Dec. And so of course was Harry, so when you say "Harry could have had the same as Beatrice and Eugenie" what exactly do you mean? What specifically is it that the York sisters have which Harry and Meghan do not have, or could not have if they wanted to?

The York sisters, the Tindalls and the assorted other minor royals do not represent the monarch and do not receive state funding. Therefore they are not 'half in half out'. It's a crucial distinction. I'm surprised this still needs to be explained 5 years on, but maybe I shouldn't be.

And now Harry does essentially "have the same as Beatrice and Eugenie" - except that it wasn't what he wanted!

In the light of some of the utter tosh that is posted on these threads I don't think any of us should be surprised lol!

Princess Beatrice in theory has a formal role as she is a Counsellor of State, but she has AFAIK never performed a representational role

"Princess Beatrice" has once again stepped in to support the royal family on the worldstage as she prepares to head to the World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland, in just a few weeks time.
Rubbing shoulders with political heavyweights including Rachel Reeves and Angela Merkel various public figures from all across the G7 and G20 countries, will be in attendance at the event, which takes place from 20 January to 24 January.
Princess Beatrice will be making a special appearance and participating in a panel looking at how sovereign wealth funds can be used to tackle climate change, with her participation coming just weeks ahead of her anticipated due date which is predicted to be some time in early Spring. The publication reported that the royal will be "looking at how private capital from family offices and sovereign wealth funds can be used to tackle climate change".

This post is pretty useless as there is no date or source.

Attending Davos is not the same as formally representing the monarch.

If you say so! If not, why is she is there?

Who is she?? What would she bring to the World Economic Forum? I have no idea.

The high profile engagement is yet another sign of Princess Beatrice’s commitment to the royal family, which is perhaps unsurprising given she is one of the named Counsellors of State appointed by King Charles that can step in should he be unable to do so, including when signing routine documents and attending Privy Council meetings where needed

Exactly.

He's basically on the same level as his cousins now, although of course he's the son of the King rather than a niece of nephew. But that's not what he wanted. He wanted all the perks, prestige and public funding, with none of the restrictions. But it doesn't quite work that way.
